Fashionably Late 20 reviews Beth Kendrick
Downtown Press, 2006
5 Stars! I thought this was a pretty funny book and I enjoyed the story. I thought it was well written and it kept me interested until the end, plus it gave me an insight into the fashion industry. I would definitely recommend it.

Pack Up the Moon 7 reviews Anna McPartlin
Downtown Press, 2008
A page-turner It's not a book that will haunt me now that I'm finished with it in that deeply impacting way that others have done. But while I was reading it, I couldn't put it down.
I love the attention McPartlin pays to each character, loving them each equally, creating real people with complex lives out of every one of them. Her voice as an author is delightful, very pleasant and quick-paced. Despite the ...

Enslave Me Sweetly (Alien Huntress, Book 2) 17 reviews Gena Showalter
Downtown Press, 2006
Enslave Me Sweetly I thought it was great! I enjoyed this book just as much as the first edition to this series. I read it in two settings-only because I needed to sleep. Gena Showalter has a way to make the imagined believable. A very refreshingly different escape from everyday realism, to the world of Gena!

Invisible Lives 7 reviews Anjali Banerjee
Downtown Press, 2006
Courtesy of Teens Read Too INVISIBLE LIVES is a sweet and sort of predictable read in that chick-lit way, but the Indian and paranormal twists make it good fun and add a unique element to the more predictable parts of the story.
Lakshmi Sen is a young Indian woman in Seattle with an odd ability to read people's emotions. She physically sees them (this is the supernatural part of the story but it is not addressed as ...

Nothing "Accidental" About It This book was a true page turner! The story is funny, quirky and made me laugh out loud too many times to count. Chick Lit at it's best.

Shout Down the Moon 36 reviews Lisa Tucker
Downtown Press, 2004
Worth Shouting About Lisa Tucker is a new voice but one that I will read again and again. For, indeed, she has found her voice and its in writing novels with emotionally charged dysfunctional families who are so well drawn that you might even know them. There is great depth in all of the characters, even the minor ones. The plot is a new and refreshing twist and allows those who may have grown up in a "normal" ...

Exes and Ohs 15 reviews Beth Kendrick
Downtown Press, 2005
Great Book The book is very well-written, and very enjoyable. The characters are realistic and lovable, and the author writes about little boys as if she has them (she doesn't, according to the interview in the back of the book.) The book kept me guessing until the end. In no way did it seem contrived. At the point where some authors would have the main characters conveniently meet up and live happily ever ...

Awaken Me Darkly 60 reviews Gena Showalter
Downtown Press, 2006
Kickin' A** and Takin' Names Gena Showalter is one of my favorite writers with paranormal romance, but now that I've had a taste of her futuristic romance, she has totally blown me away. I loved her female character, who was strong, sexy, confident and even more sexy, which I think all of us females wish we were. I didn't want the story to end and I hope there will be a continuation where the other fabulous characters all ...

Imaginary Men 17 reviews Anjali Banerjee
Downtown Press, 2005
Charming and fun! Imaginary Men centers around Lina Ray, a San Francisco-based matchmaker whose own lovelife has taken a nosedive since the death of her philandering fiance. Her family, concerned about her being alone "at her age," seems to pin their own happiness and contentment on her finding a husband, so, to get them off her back and perhaps make them happy for a moment, Lina makes up a fiance. Naturally, her ...

A Hopeless Romantic 5 reviews Harriet Evans
Downtown Press, 2007
Unexpected Surprise This book is everything I want when I read this genre. No, its not a literary masterpiece but it is a FUN read...predictable with enough twists to keep you reading and enough character development to make you care. If you enjoy movies like "Pretty Woman", then this book will hit the spot. I couldn't put it down.

Just Between Us 14 reviews Cathy Kelly
Downtown Press, 2006
Amazing family drama! Contemporary and heartwarming, this story is about a family who seems to have it all until one day they start having to open up one by one until they realize that everyone has ups and downs. Cathy Kelly does a tremendous job of making the characters sympathetic and believable. It felt like home when I read it and helped me feel even more comfortable with my family. It's good to be reminded that ...

The Starter Wife 30 reviews Gigi Levangie Grazer
Downtown Press, 2006
Fresh and Funny Laugh out loud funny and a fresh take on the dumped first wife book. Grazer's witty narrative and originality made this "beach read" book, set in Malibu, a delight. I'd watched the Lifetime movie of The Starter Wife without really caring about the characters or the story, which in the film turned out to be all-to-predictable melodrama with almost no resemblance to the book. It didn't hold me, ...

Dixieland Sushi 24 reviews Cara Lockwood
Downtown Press, 2005
Bi-Racial in the South Jen Taylor lives in Dixieland Arkasas-the product of a Japanese American mother and a European-American father. This leads Jen to some interesting dilemas as some people assume that she is Latin American or when people find out her middle name (Nakamura) they make fun of it.
Jen spent much of her childhood in love with-and trying to win Kevin Peterson-to no avail. Later Jen, who is a T.V. ...

Irish Girls Are Back in Town 3 reviews Cecelia Ahern, Patricia Scanlan, ...
Downtown Press, 2005
solid but darker than the previous romps The fourth edition of this annual anthology that raises money for charity is surprisingly different in tone than the previous "Girls in Town" collections as these contributions are much darker than the previous Irish, American and Scottish romps. The tales are for the most part well written though some chick lit quirky twists in a few stories seem out of place. Overall the contributions appear ...

The Prada Paradox 10 reviews Julie Kenner
Downtown Press, 2007
I liked this 3rd in the series. I liked it better than the 2nd I think. It was quick and entertaining, which I am all about these days. I could do without schlep in the book though. For some reason, it irks me. Still, a good book. I like how it tied into the 1st.

Past Secrets 7 reviews Cathy Kelly
Downtown Press, 2007
THANK YOU, Cathy! I have read several reviews of Cathy Kelly's books. Most of them are positive but then there are those who say that this is not important/serious literature. Or that it is nice for a boring flight or when you are half asleep on a sunny beach.
People in her books are too nice, problems are mostly solved in the end, it's relaxing reading - in other words, happy readers have a too good time for ...

I Did (But I Wouldn't Now) 15 reviews Cara Lockwood
Downtown Press, 2006
BETTER THAN THE 1ST!! While I loved the first book (I do, but I don't) I actually found the quasi-sequal to be even better! I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. It was hilarious and while it's out there, as a 24 year old, I actually found myself relating to Lily's (main character) man troubles on some level. I liked that she was younger (26 years old) and I thought she made a great heroine!
