I can't stop reading
I just finished this book. And it always surprises how much this series has grabbed onto me. I started reading this series when the second book came out (I still haven't gotten a chance to read the first book.) I thought that I would start growing tired of this series and jsut give up on reading (That happens to me with a lot of series.) But Kim's books are so well-written that I can't stop ...

Original vs. "Definitive" Edition
There are three different versions of this novel in existence: the first, abridged version that won the Hugo and Nebula Awards; the second, partially "restored" version in print from 1991 to 1996; and the third and final "definitive" edition first published by Avon in 1997. The current version in print is the definitive edition. The novel's true genius was to subvert the traditional space ...

Good conlusion
This novel is a good conclusion to the Riftwar books of Raymond E. Feist. If you have read his other books, this is one to pick up. If you have never read one, DO NOT START WITH THIS ONE! Fun to see some familiar faces, as always. There are some good twists and turns. While Feist's first Riftwar Saga was his best, this is an enjoyable read and is worthy of his efforts. Feist does ...

Ahhh, another blissful witchy read
This was another breathtaking entry in the complex and colorful world of Miss Rachel Morgan, sort of a supernatural bounty hunter if you may, who always manages to get into immense trouble and who longs for drinking coffee on Ivy's couch while trying to figure a way to save her life. This is the third installment of this delicious series and I cannot stress enough to read it in order, this story ...

What a series
After reading book 1 (Dead Witch Walking) I could tell this author had something. After book 2 I needed a fire extinguisher. After book 3 I was hooked for the long haul. Her Character is so well drawn out in this series, you forget they aren't real.

Earlier books in this series were good. This one's great.
Middle books in a series are often the hardest for an author to pull off. You need to move the story along, but you can't resolve too much or there's no reason to continue to volume 3. Yet it has to be good enough that readers *want* to keep reading. Even with an author as fine as Bujold, the second book in the Sharing Knife series suffered from this problem. Certainly, several reviewers were ...

more midkemia goodness
Feist does it again with this one. if you liked the rest of his works then definitely get this one. otherwise, this is about 20th in the series and not much would make sence. start with Magician: Apprentice first.

Part urban fantasy, part mystery and part pulp
Light and Shadow are constantly are war with one another. In Las Vegas, Zodiac Troop 75 keeps the Shadows in check; protecting mortals from adversaries who would harm, kill, or convert them to evil. One of the newest members of the unit is Joanna Archer, who now looks physically like her dead sister Olivia. In a word - brilliant
I'll admit - I'm a longtime Feist fan (as is probably evident by my reviews of his books on this site), and have been anxiously awaiting this second installment of the Darkwar Saga to come out on paperback. Feist has written virtually all of his books in small groups - the Riftwar Saga, the Serpentwar Saga, etc. Yet his brilliance lies in tying threads connecting these sometimes seemingly ...

A Lyrical Journey Through the Essence of Good and Evil
This is Bradbury's finest novel, in my opinion. All of Bradbury's fiction is lyrical in nature, but in this work his prose flows quickly and magically from the first page to the last. The book is closer to horror than sci-fi, but I regard it as simply a great novel and believe that its universal theme of good vs. evil qualify it as literary fiction of the highest order. It is a book I read ...

This needs to be a movie!
I bought these 3 books while I was stationed in Galveston, TX, because I needed some reading material to pass time. Ian Douglas delivers some of the best Sci-Fi books I've ever read. When I finished reading the first book I loaned it to one of the guys in operations. He finished reading so fast that I still wasn't done with Luna Marine. These books got passed around to about 12 people in my ...

Roger Zelazny

Classic SF&F
Roger Zelazny's Amber series is one of the best sci-fi/fantasy epics ever written. Not only was it highly imaginative and original when it was published (in the 70s and 80s), but it remains so -- there's nothing else like it. Corwin and his brothers and sisters are clever, sophisticated, sarcastic, and extremely ambitious. They constantly scheme and plot to outmaneuver each other as they vie ...

fine middle book quest fantasy
Escator King Maximilian and his former Queen Ishbel battle their strong feelings for one another. However, both have doubts about reheating their romance as the first time it ended sadly and though they care for one another they both fear it will end badly again. At the same time the rulers debate the merits of their on and off relationship, Escator's military chieftain Isaiah and the Icarii ...

Just sign me up for all her books - it will save time.
Lois just writes for me apparently - the person who buys every book she writes and multiple copies as well (mass market and audio.) LMB addiction... As to this particular work - I'm listening to it now (which makes three times I've "read" it.) As to why I like it: the people are people, the internal logic is consistent, the writing leads you along (willing though I am to go) and doesn't kick ...

Getting better
I wasn't sure what to think at the end of book 1, but I'm hopeful for book 3 now. I've accepted that I don't like these characters or the settings as much as her other trilogies, but I think finally I can get the main character, and finally we get to the meat of the books. The issues that the main character faced were interesting, but quite frankly I found them uncomfortable. Once I decided ...

Diana Wynne Jones

Light-hearted, warm, and entertaining
Diana Wynne Jones is very in tune with her young audience. The story flowed well, the characters were well-developed, and the enjoyment factor was higher than expected. I'd highly recommend this book for pre-teens and for people (like myself) who enjoy quick, entertaining little reads from time to time.

Semper Fi to the Stars!
I have read the previous two triologies, Heritage and Legacy. This is a great start to the new series. Mr. Douglas/Kieth has done it again. Being a former Marine, I feel he captures the feel and attitude of the Marines he is writing about. He brings in the stress of combat and the aftermath into the forefront and does not make the characters supermen and women. He brings out the depth and ...
