How to Take the Grrrr Out of Anger13 reviews
Elizabeth Verdick, Marjorie Lisovskis

Free Spirit Publishing, 2002

Great Book to Indentify & Deal With Anger
This is a great book to help children identify the physical signs of anger and to sort out the emotion they are feeling. It also teaches strategies to "tame your temper". I made a "cheat sheet" for my son to use when he gets angry with anger strategies. My 7 year son with autism uses strategies suggested in this book.

Delightful and helpful
I have an interest in all information and ways of informing people about ADHD and The Survival Guide for kids with ADD or ADHD, is not only informative, it is also practical and fun. Hands Are Not for Hitting (Ages 4-7) (Best Behavior Series)32 reviews
Martine Agassi Ph.D.

Free Spirit Publishing, 2000

Good repetition
Repetition is a good tool for teaching kids to remember important lessons. This book does a good job of repeating that hands are not for hitting, and also suggests what hands ARE good for (holding hands to cross the street, etc.). My 4 year old loves this series of books and we refer to the text often in conversation with her to remind her of the important lessons.

Share and Take Turns (Learning to Get Along, Book 1)5 reviews
Cheri J. Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2003

An excellent series--get them all!
I would highly recommend any of the books in this series by Cheri Meiners. This book has been especially helpful as my 5-year-old sometimes encounters children who *don't* share well or want to take turns. These books caught my eye because the writing level is just right for pre-K and kindergarten children. Truthful without being preachy or overly wordy, the series shows children and family ...

What to Do When You're Scared and Worried: A Guide for Kids7 reviews
James J. Crist

Free Spirit Publishing, 2004

Perfect!
This is a great book for anyone working with children. I lays out everything you need to address anxieties and it lables the anxieties for what they are - I love that. Includes forms, activities, and little stories that children can relate too. This is an excellent guide to get you going when working with children. Would also be useful for parents to read to increase their understanding of ...

Gershen Kaufman, Lev Raphael, ...

Free Spirit Publishing, 1999

Helping your child's Self Esteem
This is an excellent book. My son and I read a little bit of it at bedtime and keep a notebook to jot down our thoughts. It has improved his self-worth and it has helped me relearn social skills that I should be using in my own life.

Words Are Not for Hurting (Ages 4-7) (Best Behavior Series)17 reviews
Elizabeth Verdick

Free Spirit Publishing, 2004

Great teaching tool
This book (and the entire series) is a great teaching tool for little ones. Often times, when my daughter needs a "reminder" about choosing her words carefully, we put this in our bedtime story rotation.

Differentiating Instruction in the Regular Classroom: How to Reach and Teach All Learners, Grades 3-129 reviews
Diane Heacox

Free Spirit Publishing, 2001

New to differentiation?
I found this book to be terrific! It answered all of my questions. I used the student survey with my 9th grade students and they loved it! I even use the matrix plans for every unit I teach. This book covers it all - placing students in groups (how to place students in groups using differentiation), tiering assignments, grading (is differentiation fair), classroom management (how do I manage ...

Join in and Play (Learning to Get Along)4 reviews
Cheri J Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2004

A great series of books, pick any one!
I would highly recommend any of the books in this series by Cheri Meiners. Join In and Play is a great book for parents whose children are shy or may avoid social interactions. It offers a variety of ways they can be included and have fun with their classmates and friends, even illustrating how to ask to join a game or play quietly beside another child. It also would be helpful in helping a more ...

Know and Follow Rules3 reviews
Cheri J. Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2005

Counselor Kim
I love this book! I'm an Elementary School Counselor and I use it for Classroom Guidance. It's also been fantastic with my toddler! The pictures are so bright and engaging. When we have one of those naughty moments, when all is calm again we read the book. He really enjoys it. The message is simple enough for him but also hits home with early elementary kids. I highly recommend this book as ...

The Gifted Kids Survival Guide: A Teen Handbook6 reviews
Judy Galbraith, James R. Delisle, ...

Free Spirit Publishing, 1996

Robert's Mom
My son was thrilled to receive this book. He immediately began to see himself described in every chapter. He has always felt different and out of sync with his peers. This book helped him to understand himself and feel good about his "gift".

Teaching Gifted Kids in the Regular Classroom: Strategies and Techniques Every Teacher Can Use to Meet the ...11 reviews
Susan Winebrenner, Pamela Espeland

Free Spirit Publishing, 2001

YOU NEED THIS BOOK!
If you are reading this review, I suspect that you are a teacher. If you are a teacher, you need this book! Every classroom has at least ONE gifted child; one child who finishes his or her work first, goes to a center and blasts through the work there, with ease. I found that the best thing to do with a student like this is to let him or her pick a project that he or she would like to do (example ...

GREAT book!
My 11 year old son rolled his eyes when I handed him this book. I came back a half an hour later and he had finished it! He was so excited and told me so many things on how he can do his homework better. He said it was very funny also. He learned a lot and really enjoyed the book!

Listen and Learn (Learning to Get Along, Book 2)6 reviews
Cheri J. Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2003

Realistic situations, child-friendly text
I would highly recommend any of the books in this series by Cheri Meiners. My just-turned-5-year-old son asks for them at storytime, and the writing is just right for pre-K and kindergarten children. Truthful without being preachy, the series shows children and family members from many different ethnic groups in the colorful illustrations, and each book addresses issues which are developmentally ...

Sally Yahnke, Ph.D. Walker, Caryn Pernu

Free Spirit Publishing, 2002

Excellent resource for families and schools
There are many books on the topic of gifted and talented children as it relates to their education and needs. However, I found this book addressed the gifted child from many different aspects. It touched upon their academic and social-emotional needs. It provides parents with great insight into these children in terms of how they think, characteristics that are common and the dangers of ...

Talk And Work It Out (Learning to Get Along)4 reviews
Cheri J. Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2005

Excellent book
I have two children, a seven year old boy diagnosed with aspergers, and a four year old boy. I picked it up primarily for my older son. There is something about the flow of ideas in this book which is very engaging. I found this myself and both of my sons were taken in by it too. The language is clear and logical and quite simply makes a lot of sense. I think this is an excellent book for ...

Feet Are Not for Kicking (Board Book) (Best Behavior Series)5 reviews
Elizabeth Verdick

Free Spirit Publishing, 2004

LOVE this book and its simple, effective message
We bought this book for our 19-month-old daughter when she hit and bit another child at school. At the time, she used to kick me when I changed her diaper, and her daycare had a copy of this book, so I bought it, along with "Hands Are Not For Hitting" and "Teeth are Not For Biting." All three books are great. They are very simple, straightforward, with pictures and language toddlers can ...

Dude, That's Rude!: (Get Some Manners) (Laugh and Learn)3 reviews
Pamela Espeland, Elizabeth Verdick

Free Spirit Publishing, 2007

Really Funny!
I have two boys, ages 10 & 12, and they got a real kick out of this book. I did too! It is a good overview of manners of all kinds, but in a humorous setting. I would recommend it to anyone with kids who need a "brush up" on manners. Very well written.
