Angelique and the Ghosts15 reviews
Sergeanne Golon

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1978

Who would like to know ahat happened next???
I am very lucky to be french, and have read them all. Including the ones not yet translated in english of course. To the reader what dress wonders who Angelique wears for her great arrival in Quebec: She wears the ice blue dress, and a white fur coat over it. I have started reading these books in 1960, and still enjoy reading them again and again. They made me love Versailles, wish to know more ...

The Grand Sophy43 reviews
Georgette Heyer

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1950

Sophy is Grand
This is one of the best of Georgette Heyer's novels. For anyone unfamiliar with her works, she is Jane Austen with an even strong sense of the absurd and the wit to see through people's pretensions. Sophy is the "not-so-little any more" niece of Lady Ombersley, whose arrival promptly sets the family's well ordered world on its ear. Her cousin, Charles, is at first infuriated and then gradually ...

Hardball: A Season in the Projects12 reviews
Daniel Coyle

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1994

Worth the search
This book is such a great find. Unlike the movie, this is the non-fiction account of a group of volunteer's attempts to organize a little league team in Chigago's Cabrini Green project, possibly the most infamous in the country. Don't expect any Keanu Reeves ex-gambler coaches to show up. Do expect great candor from the kids and an unmistakable affection from the author (who never appears in the ...

Camp Creepy Time19 reviews

G P Putnam's Sons, 2007

VERY CREEPY (and funny)!!!
You simply can't go wrong with this wacky zany summer send-up. Einstein P. Fleet, a loner-nerd trapped at a hellish summer camp in the Mojave Desert, leads us through a wild storyline of escape, with monster costumes, vampires, werewolves and aliens all in the mix. This fast-paced, well-written farce is a quick, irreverent, hilarious read for kids and adult-kids. Highly recommended. It's no ...

Mistress Masham's Repose19 reviews
T. H. White

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1946

Little England
After finishing university T. H. White worked as a teacher in the Stowe School which occupies a gigantic former Baroque stately home: here he conceived of the idea of Malplaquet, modeled after the greatest of all British country homes, Blenheim Palace, where the Dukes of Marlborough have lived and where Winston Churchill was born and raised. Malplaquet, an imaginary dilapidated repository of all ...

The Liberation of Gabriel King10 reviews
K. L. Going

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 2005

My 10 year old son loves this book
I bought this book for Christmas for my 10 year old (4th grade). He will read a chapter and then come find me and read it to me all over again because he thinks it is so funny. He has to read 1/2 hour everyday for school requirements and he will continue to read this book for over an hour. Gets him away from the computer and GameCube games. Hurray.

An Air That Kills: How the Asbestos Poisoning of Libby, Montana Uncovered a National Scandal13 reviews
Andrew Schneider, David McCumber

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 2004

Actually, a Real Page-Turner. This book deserves to be read!
I want you to read this book. It is important to you and your family. I consider myself a knowledgeable person and I don't remember this scandal when it came out in 2000-2001. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I live in southern CA, but the problems with asbestos effects all of us in the US. Attic insulation, talc products and even gardening/soil products have asbestos risks that have been ...

Our Tree Named Steve12 reviews
Alan Zweibel

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 2005

A Must-Have for Every Family's Library
In a perfect world children would never have to experience the pain of loss. But, of course, this is not a perfect world, and just like their adult counterparts, youngsters need help coping when they lose someone they love. Be it that pet hamster who meets with an untimely (and usually slightly suspicious) end, a beloved grandparent who passes away, or the giant tree in the family's backyard that ...

The Miracle of MSM - The Natural Solution for Pain24 reviews
Stanley W.; Lawrence, Ronald M.; Zucker, Martin Jacob

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1999

Best book on MSM by far ...
This title by Drs. Jacob and Lawrence is by far the best word on MSM (along with product manufacturers dmso2.com etc). I, also, prefer the hardback version of this book. It is out of print but I found that it is still available at the distributor (msmsupplement.com as mentioned by someone in another review). I hope that there is a new, updated version of this book on the horizon, because I know ...

The rosary,8 reviews
Florence L Barclay

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1910

A Timeless Romance
Written in 1910, THE ROSARY still proves to be a very successful story in the year 2003. By today's standards, it may be described as quaint but still very enjoyable. The writing is lyrical, descriptive, and charming; the love storyline is ageless. The story revolves around Jane Champion and Garth Dalmain. Jane is talented, smart, good-natured and independent. However she is a unique ...

The Fat-to-Muscle Diet9 reviews
Victoria Zak, Cris Carlin, ...

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1987

Awesome Book!
I purchased this book in March of 2002 and began my "diet" in April. I was obese to say the least. I have since lost a total of 60 pounds and overall 22 inches (13 from my hips and waist alone)I am sure that my personal motivation has had a lot to do with my success and I now have more energy than I have had in years. I am now able to wear a pair of jeans that I purchased my senior year of high ...

Her privates, we,8 reviews
Frederic Manning

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1930

Elegant, true, vivid, and memorable
Of course, I say this work is elegant, true, vivid and memorable as a work, not the events it depicts. In parts of the world that used to make up the Commonwealth and serviced by Penguin books, the title may be THE MIDDLE PARTS OF FORTUNE. Having had 25 years in the military I can only say I read this book from cover to cover, and relished every word in it. Artistically, as an artifact, it has ...

Dakota Cowboy : My life in the old days8 reviews
Ike Blasingame

G P Putnam's Sons, 1958

Home on the Range
Ike Blasingame was a Texas cowboy working for the Matador Land and Cattle Company when the company expanded its operations in 1904 and leased just-opened range land along the Moreau River in South Dakota south of today's Mobridge. Blasingame was among the cowboys sent along with 3,000 head of cattle to this new area, and this being 1904 both men and beasts went the modern way - by train. Evarts ...

Grace9 reviews
Robert Lacey

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1994

It Told Me Just What I Wanted to Know About Her
I wanted to know all about the men in Grace Kelley's life, both before and after her marriage. This book told me everything, but in a classy, well-researched way. I learned a lot about Monaco, and just the things I would have wanted to know about her family members, too. After reading this excellent book, I plan to read more of Robert Lacey's works.

SIGNAL-CLOSE ACTION!7 reviews
Alexander Kent

G P Putnam's Sons, 1976

The complexity of command- when you are all there is....
If you loved Forester's "Hornblower" series, as I did, then you will also appreciate Alexander Kent's "Richard Bolitho" tales. You do not get the sense that they are derivative of Forester's work, for they stand on their own original merit. The action flows nonstop and logically with hardly a calm or doldrum. The author clearly understands the complexities of handling and fighting a ship under ...

Once on a time,10 reviews
A. A Milne

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1922

Wonderful Fantasy book to read to yourself or aloud
This book is a wonderful story about a king, princess and an "evil" countess. The king, King Merriwig of Euralia, is in love with the Countess Belvane. Belvane has her sights set on becoming queen of Euralia. However, Princess Hyacinth is suspicious of how the countess acts. So the Princess enlists the help of Prince Udo from Araby. When Belvane finds out, she wishes for something humorous ...

De profundis,9 reviews
Oscar Wilde

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1908

Strangely moving
One of the most famous - and infamous - letters in all of literature, De Profundis is a strange little piece of work: either much more than it appears on the surface, or much less. It is something I think everyone should read, if only for its insight into the human character, particularly that of one under great personal suffering. Wilde wrote this extraordinarily long letter from prison to Lord ...

The Wolf's Chicken Stew8 reviews
Keiko Kasza

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1987

Easy and Fun
This terrific book says alot with few words. The watercolor pictures are beautiful, and the text is carefully written. We adore the picture of the wolf carrying a 100 pound cake to fatten up the chicken before he eats her. The ending is so sweet it leaves you feeling like life is great. I consider this one of my favorite read alouds.

The memoirs of an amnesiac8 reviews
Oscar Levant

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1965

Laughing All The Way To The Nuthouse...
This has always been one of my favorite books. I recall reading it for the first time as a pre-teen, and chuckling at his OUTRAGEOUS stories. I'm probably among the last generation that remembers this brilliant man, which is a shame. In the days of the great "talk shows", like Jack Paar, etc.., Oscar Levant was always one of the most coveted, and controversial, guests. I remember seeing him on ...
