Excuse Me!: A Little Book of Manners48 reviews

Grosset & Dunlap, 2002

We LOVE this book!
My daughter and I have been reading Karen Katz books together since she was able to sit up. This is an excellent addition to our collection! My daughter is now two-and-a-half, and she just LOVES the lift-a-flaps in these books. We have been working on manners, so this book is perfect. After reading these books a few times together, my daughter is able to read it back to me from memory, and she ...

Max and Ruby's Busy Week (Sticker Stories)6 reviews

Grosset & Dunlap, 2002

great sticker fun for toddlers and preschoolers
For a recent trip we bought a large number of sticker and activity books for our toddler. These in the Sticker Stories series were very popular and helped make the trip a pleasant one. There are seven colorful two-page spreads and one one-page picture on which to place stickers. These show various scenes from the Max & Ruby television show, including a tea party, cleaning Max's room, a visit from ...

The Little Engine That Could mini (Little Engine That Could)65 reviews
Watty Piper, George Hauman, ...

Grosset & Dunlap, 1990

a classic for me and for my kids
This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed as a child. I began to borrow it from the library for my own two boys and decided, finally, to order one from Amazon for my son's birthday. We returned the borrowed book to the library the day before his birthday and there were many tears. So, you can imagine my son's elation to open up his very own "Little Engine That Could" on his birthday. A fantastic ...

Wonderful Adventure!
This is a wonderful version of Alice in Wonderland! I watched it when it was on tv, and am so happy to finally have it on DVD!! It has so many stars, and you don't even notice how long it is!! It is so great to finally be able to share this movie with my kids, which they enjoyed! I love this movie, and recommend it to all!!

The Night Before First Grade (Reading Railroad Books)5 reviews
Natasha Wing

Grosset & Dunlap, 2005

A great introduction to the first grade world!
It's hard to write a book about first grade jitters. Many of the books out there make the first day seem just perfect, when it often isn't. What I like about The Night Before First Grade is the way in which the author recognizes the potentially frightening aspects of the first day of school and resolves them in a realistic manner. For example, when the protagonist arrives at school, she learns ...

The Night Before Kindergarten25 reviews

Grosset & Dunlap, 2001

Perfection (With a Twist!)
This will be a favorite storybook for younger children preparing for the first day at school! All over the town, there are children tossing and turning in their beds, worried about teachers, friends, leaving play and family behind, "while visions of school supplies danced in their heads." Of course, all is well! The teacher is the best and it's the parents in the end who shed a tear or two as ...

Grosset & Dunlap, 2003

perfect 1st learn to read book
This is really a great book for pre-schoolers learning to read. This has pictures that really tell the story. I read this to my 4 year old once and she was reading it back to me. It has flash cards in the back that are fun too! Max abd Ruby are two fun bunnies that make learning fun! Pick this one up and you'll be glad you did. A proud mom.

Skippyjon Jones and the Treasure Hunt (Skippyjon Jones)3 reviews
Judy Schachner

Grosset & Dunlap, 2008

Not up to Skippyjon Standards
My children (6, 4, 1) were disappointed with this game because they expected a book and more of the (usually great) Skippyjon dialog. This is still entertaining for the youngest kids to use in the car, but it really is not much fun to read or "play" and I expect it will hit the giveaway box before long. The kids do love that they can recognize aspects from various Skippyjon adventures, but in ...

No Hitting!: A Lift-the-Flap Book11 reviews
Karen Katz

Grosset & Dunlap, 2004

Good Book - About not being mad - not just hitting.
I bought this book to help my two kids learn about hitting. It is not really a book about hitting, but about all emotions. Not hitting, not sticking out tongue, not squeezing the cat, not being mad in general. My kids love all of these books. The lift the flaps are wonderful, the characters are cute and likeable, and the storylines are easy to follow for the kids.

This one might have been the best yet!
I ordered this book for my 5th grader. He has read the whole series and LOVES Hank Zipzer, eagerly awaiting each new book coming out. This one was not available at our local bookseller (only through a special order), so I ordered it on Amazon with some other things to qualify for the minumum for free shipping. Yippee! Free shipping AND the new Hank Zipzer! It's our lucky day! My 5th ...

I Absolutely Must Do Coloring Now or Painting or Drawing (Charlie and Lola)7 reviews
Lauren Child

Grosset & Dunlap, 2006

Fun Charlie & Lola activity book!
I bought this for my 4-1/2-year-old, and she loves it! It has the classic Charlie & Lola style, but with things to color and fill in. It has suggestions to try adding fabric and paper to create a picture like the ones in the Charlie & Lola books and shows. An excellent buy--this has generated a lot of creative play time in our house!

All quiet on the western front,449 reviews
Erich Maria Remarque

Grosset & Dunlap, 1929

Like A Kick To The Groin
In my own way, I'm an academic. I don't write "reviews," really -- I write essays. It's my training. But I don't have much analysis for All Quiet on the Western Front. This novel is a swift kick to the genitalia -- it is hard, brutal and painful, and you'll feel it for a while. It is about the every-man soldier fighting through the trenches of WWI. It is also about his internal life, and ...

Life of Me, The #14: Enter at Your Own Risk (Hank Zipzer)

Hank is psyched . . . until Mr. Rock suggests that Hank attend an after-school reading program, which means he’ll miss tae kwon do. Help! Somebody Get Me Out of Fourth Grade #7 (Hank Zipzer)3 reviews
Henry Winkler, Lin Oliver

Grosset & Dunlap, 2004

Starting to read Henry Winker
My daughter bought this book for her daughter at the school book fare. It was a start to the world of HANK ZIPZER for my granddaughter. We have bought several since then to keep our girl interested in reading and these books are listed on the accelerated reading program.
