Eagle in the Sand Re-Examined
After reading some the negative reviews I decided to risk reading Eagles in the Sand because I had enjoyed the past books in the series so much. Well what did I find? For one, I came away with the impression that the negative reviewers never really read the book with care and attention. One refers to "bildings" made of wood, well they weren't made of wood but the roofs would be as in most ...

The Templar, The Queen and Her Lover: A Knights Templar Mystery (Knights Templar)2 reviews
Michael Jecks

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

One of Michael Jecks' best
First, I'll admit to two of my biases: I have enjoyed all of Michael Jecks' books, and I love medieval mysteries in general. And I hate the fact that these are sold as being "Knights Templar" mysteries, because that is hardly their main focus. That being said, this book is more Templar-oriented than most, and Jecks is as scrupulous about history as always. I also love the fact that the ...

Il Divo: Our Music, Our Journey, Our Words4 reviews
Il Divo

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

Insight into what makes them who they are
Loved the book- quite interesting lives they have had. Not all happy childhoods. But the book is great. Makes you love them and their music even more. Lots of great pictures and hearing their lives through their own words is brilliant.

Could It Be Forever?: My Story23 reviews
David Cassidy

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

YES, DAVID, IT COULD BE FOREVER
I had the pleasure of meeting David Cassidy in 2002 after one of his concerts near Syracuse, New York. He's everything I imagined him to be-- kind, sincere and just plain wonderful. That said, if you are a fan of David's, or even if you're just interested in reading his book out of curiosity, then by all means, purchase this book. It's worth every dollar. They did a nice job on the photos-- some ...

The Templar (Templars 1)3 reviews
Paul Doherty

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

The Rise of The Order
"The Templar," by Paul Doherty is about the rise of the most mysterious, most famous, and one of the oldest orders of human history, The Knights Templar. The Templar takes us back to the beginning of the very 1st Crusade, when Pope Urban the III preaches about reclaiming the holy land from the "infidels." The main characters are people that many of us have heard before, such as Hugh de Payens and ...

Winning Is Not Enough: The Autobiography (UK Edition)3 reviews
Sir Jackie Stewart

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

A must for any library
I found this in my local book store and was surprised that it has not been released by Amazon yet. Being a formula one fan may make me a bit biased but i can say with sincere honesty that this is the best autobiography i have ever read. For a person to be ridiculed at school for suffering from dyslexia and then going on to become a true ambassador for the sport of f1 and others, Jackie Stewart is ...

Dispensation of Death (Knights Templar series)3 reviews
Michael Jecks

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

Latest in the Sir Baldwin Series
Michael Jecks gave up a career in the computer industry when he began writing the internationally successful Templar series. Well all I can say is the Computer Industries loss is the reader's gain. He has now written about a score of the Knights Templar mystery books featuring Sir Baldwin de Furnshill and Bailiff Simon Puttock and there are more to follow. Michael's books are full of intrigue and ...

Domina: Murder and Intrigue in Ancient Rome (Paul Doherty Historical Mysteries)2 reviews
Paul Doherty

Headline Book Publishing, 2002

Paul Doherty at his best
Having read a number of Doherty's historical/mystery novels, I came to read 'Domina'with thoughts that it would be of similar ilk to the others - entertaining. I like Doherty's style. Domina is entertaining - and much more. With this novel there is more a sense of history and its drama. The author brings to life an Agrippina The Younger who is every bit the scheming and manipulative woman we've ...

Centurion (Roman Legion 8)6 reviews
Simon Scarrow

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

Centurion (Roman Legion 8) by Simon Scarrow
This was a thoroughly enjoyable novel that was hard to put down. After reading the whole series, I kind of know what's going to happen. For one thing, the leadership is always lousy, and the heroes have to survive in spite of it all. But you know what? I like the stories anyway because the main characters are so interesting and lovable. I wish the stories were twice as long.

The Malice of Unnatural Death (Knights Templar)6 reviews
Michael Jecks

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

Jecks has the period down
Jecks consistantly delivers a great story. His charters blend in perfectly with the real people of the period. I have enjoyed all of his books and always look forward to the next one. He does not disapoint.

The Cup of Ghosts (Mathilde of Westminster 1)8 reviews
Paul Doherty

Headline Book Publishing, 2006

Death at every corner
This is the first volume in what promises to be an entertaining historical mystery series, with Mathilde of Westminster as its heroine. Mathilde was raised by her uncle, a Templar Knight, as a physician and herbalist and, while training her in the medical arts, was also training her mind to be unusually observant and analytical. In France, King Philip was determined to crush the power of the ...

The Poison Maiden (Mathilde of Westminster 2)1 review
Paul Doherty

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

Stellar!
Paul Doherty is an historian first, but a novelist second, and his stories are the best way that I can think of to brush up on historical detail, especially from his era which is the late 12 century and early 13 century. He is an expert on the two King Edwards and their retinues, wives, lovers. He incorporate Edward II in this book and as usual builds around true historical happenings. His ...

The Guns of El Kebir (Simon Fonthill Series)2 reviews
John Wilcox

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

Another Hit for Wilcox
There is nothing more satisfying than an adventure series that keeps delivering winners. Knowing that you can purchase a book and be entertained year after year makes reading a joy. Wilcox delivers again with The Guns of El Kabir. In his fifth annual installment of the /simon Fonthill series, Wilcox has Simon and 352in Egypt fighting a war not dissimilar than the current war in Iraq. All of ...

The Horns of the Buffalo (Simon Fonthill Series)6 reviews
John Wilcox

Headline Book Publishing, 2004

Another Bernard Cornwell? I think so, but
he's not copying either Cornwell's style or characters. Wilcox is definitely his own man and his hero is no Sharpe. Simon Fonthill, while capable of handling himself in combat every bit as efficiently as Sharpe, doesn't like the army and seems to be trying his best to stay out of it. Despite all his efforts however, he cannot eliminate the armed forces from his life and becomes involved mainly ...

The Hunt for Atlantis4 reviews
Andy McDermott

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

Fast Paced and Exciting
This is another new author to me and that is because this is his first novel. You would think that a storyline which involved searching for the lost city of Atlantis would have been done to death by now, but this is a very good first novel for the author. The author is very adept at generating excitement and the book is fast paced. Like some of the previous reviewers I found it very difficult to ...

Aftershock (Bob Skinner Mysteries)
Quintin Jardine

Headline Book Publishing, 2008

Still reeling from the tragic death of a much-loved colleague, Detective Chief Constable Bob Skinner and his men soon discover that a disturbed serial killer is still at large and very close to home. The body of a young woman has been found on a golf course. It has been there for 10 days, and it is the middle of a steamy summer holiday; she's not a pretty sight. But the way she has been laid out is uncannily familiar. The body has been ...

101 Ways to Kill Your Boss1 review
Graham Roumieu

Headline Book Publishing, 2007

Book of Murder Drawings
101 Ways to Kill Your Boss is basically just a heap of graphic violent murder scenes of usually an adult male (but occasionally female) getting killed by unique and funny methods. All are black pen (no other colours are used in the illustrations) type outline sketches. Not all seem to relate to the victim being the killer's boss either. Some are quite funny but the book lacks the higher standard ...
