Harold and the Purple Crayon 50th Anniversary Edition (Purple Crayon Books) 190 reviews Crockett Johnson
HarperCollins, 1981
Empowering This book is empowering to kids... they need something, they can do what Harold does, imagine it and draw it into creation.
I'd also recommend Corduroy (40th Anniversary Edition), and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book and Memory Game (The World of Eric Carle)

The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It 400 reviews Michael E. Gerber
HarperCollins, 1995
An absolute must. Jakes.biz After I posted my disgust of Michael Gerber's new book The E-Myth Enterprise, I felt it necessary to make it known that there was a time when he wrote relevant information.
The E-Myth Revisited is an incredible book and once again absolutely required for anyone that wants to start a business. The book will show you exactly what it claims, Why most small businesses fail and what to do about it. ...

The Alchemist 1462 reviews Paulo Coelho
HarperCollins, 2006
Rich & Colorful, Cheered me up I read this book about a week and a half before starting chemo therapy and it really put a smile on my face. Though the lessons shared here may not be new as others have pointed out, its presentation and lightheartedness make it a great read and easy to grasp. It's engaging story offers material for you to ponder.
On several instances I had to close it mid page to give it some thought. Great ...

Where the Sidewalk Ends 30th Anniversary Edition: Poems and Drawings 99 reviews Shel Silverstein
HarperCollins, 2004
Can't go wrong with Shel Silverstein I bought this as a gift for someone who had never read any of Silverstein's poems and he loved it. This is a great book for kids or for adults who need a grin very now and then. You can pick it up and open to a random page, read a few poems and walk away with a smile. We enjoyed the bonus poems but I don't know if those poems are worth a premium price.

The Graveyard Book 367 reviews Neil Gaiman
HarperCollins, 2008
A wonderful, nuanced work The Graveyard Book is my first Neil Gaiman book, and I'm definitely planning on reading more. I'd heard a lot of praise of this book, but it still didn't prepare me for the elegance of his style.
Though I liked the drawings, the real charm of this book is the writing. Gaiman has woven a really beautiful coming-of-age tale in which Nobody Owens, the main character, learns some harsh lessons ...

HarperCollins, 2010
Wilderness, adventure Reviewed by Ben Weldon (age 11) for Reader Views (02/10)

When Ujurak, at the time in the form of a goose, was weakened and almost killed after accidentally eating a fishhook, his friends ...

Goodnight Moon 655 reviews Margaret Wise Brown
HarperCollins, 2005
In the Great Green Room Some classics are past their "Best By" date (see my review of the original Curious George: The Original Curious George). Others, like Goodnight Moon, continue to offer new parents and their young children an opportunity to enjoy some quiet contemplative time together. Many read Goodnight Moon as part of a bedtime ritual; the familiar items and cadence are sweet and soothing. The New Yorker once ...

Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School (I Can Read Book 1) 7 reviews Jane O'connor
HarperCollins, 2009
Fancy Nancy's Inspiring School Project!!! I've purchased so many Fancy Nancy books for my granddaughter, Mary Mace, that I've lost count of them. I sent her this one, synchronistically, a few weeks before she had her own 100th day of school project due in kindergarten! I didn't know that kids really did this...I thought it was just a great fictional plot. Mary Mace was tickled pink with the book and loved, loved, loved the story. In ...

Day It Rained Hearts 10 reviews Felicia Bond
HarperCollins, 2006
Sweet and Thoughtful THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is one of the sweetest little books that I have ever read. Although I purchased it for my 3 ½ year old daughter for Valentine's Day, the love and lesson of this book is appropriate any day of the year. THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is a new favorite at our house, still asked for day after day as part of our bedtime ritual.
The author of THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is ...

Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great 79 reviews Jim Collins
HarperCollins, 2005
A Good Translation of the Non-Profit Leader's Needs I am simply a volunteer in the non-profit sector, so that might have affected my perception of this supplement to Jim Collins' outstanding book but it seemed a bit short of the incredible insight of his book. Maybe I just expected a whole lot more or maybe it needed a bit more collaboration (with those in non-profits) or the kind of research that went into Good to Great or Built to Last. I ...

Fancy Nancy: Every Day Is Earth Day (I Can Read Book 1) 1 review Jane O'connor
HarperCollins, 2010
Disappointing and preachy As an Earth-conscious person who loves reading the Fancy Nancy books to my daughter, I was very excited to see this title come out and pre-ordered it. When it arrived my daughter and I read it immediately, and I was severely disappointed by the bumper sticker preachiness of the book in teaching kids to care about the Earth. I hoped it would be more learning-based like "Fancy Nancy Sees Stars," ...
