The Grammar Book: An ESL/EFL Teacher's Course, Second Edition12 reviews
Marianne Celce-Murcia, Diane Larsen-Freeman

Heinle ELT, 1998

More than it's meant to be (that's a good thing!)
This book was clearly created to be a textbook for pre-service teachers about how to teach English grammar. There is so much information in this book, though, I'm pretty sure that it would be impossible to cram it all in to one course. It's an absolutely indispensable reference. I return to it again and again. Every serious ESL/EFL teacher should have this book.

Refining Composition Skills: Rhetoric and Grammar2 reviews
Regina L. Smalley, Mary K. Ruetten, ...

Heinle ELT, 2000

I think it is a very useful book for Turkish learners.
As teachers of Baskent University Prep school we would like to use this book for our freshmen groups. The only thing is that the book does not have a key or teachers' manual. As nonnative speakers of English we would feel more secure if had a key or teachers' guide.

Collins COBUILD

Teaching Language: From Grammar to Grammaring1 review
Diane Larsen-Freeman

Understanding Grammar

This book presents how grammar is viewed through Second Language Acquisition Theory. Also the author dismisses some common preconceptions ...

Heinle's Newbury House Dictionary of American English with Integrated Thesaurus: The Core of English ...4 reviews

Heinle ELT, 2003

Best Dictionary
I teach English as a Second Language, intermediate level. This is the best dictionary I have ever seen. The explanations are clear, in simple language, the thesaurus is great, and the sample sentences are easy to understand. Too often, in an all-English dictionary, the meaning of the word is in such complicated language that it is impossible to understand, even for native-born English ...

Designing Language Courses: A Guide for Teachers6 reviews
Kathleen Graves

Heinle ELT, 1999

Boring Cover.....Fantastic Book
I am not sure why English language teaching books have a penchant for boring cover designs, but sometimes they really live up to the old adage of never judging books by their covers. Kathleen Graves' "Designing Language Courses" is a case in point. The book has a clear organisation that is easily followed and takes you through a process that is clear and succinct. With a description of the ...

Heinle ELT, 2000

Great for use in tutoring or in the classroom
We use this book in our pronunciation/intonation ESL classes (for advanced adult speakers) because it covers all the essential areas of sound production: pronunciation, intonation, word stress, rhythm, and linking. Practical English 1, Second Edition (Student Book)2 reviews
Tim Harris

Heinle ELT, 1986

Very Popular With the Students
We are using this book as a guideline to develop lessons for a class of students who are all at the beginning level. We decided that it would be better if each student had his own book so we offered to order the books for the students. Every student, every single one, accepted the offer. In addition to teaching English, the book has a lot of examples and a lot of practice lessons. Not only ...
