Sloppy
I am not at all impressed with the 7th ed. I am now using another textbook instead of the the College Physics 7th ed required for my class. The text itself if so-so. The text explanations of concepts are unclear and unnecessarily wordy, not the worst out there but certainly nothing to scream about. One of the irritating tendencies was that simple explanations of even basic concepts were few ...

Repairing Your Relationship (and Your Childhood)
Before counselor Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. teaches you how to improve your relationship, he asks you to think about why you were attracted to your partner in the first place. The answer, he explains, is that you were looking for a mate who possesses the same basic qualities as your parents. Why? Because people subconsciously seek relationships with those who will exorcise their childhood pain. ...
What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America

The politics that allow Wall Street to leave Main Street in the dust
This book makes the case that social conservatives undermine their positions when they join with the economic conservatives; and that the evils they see in so-called liberalism are largely imaginary, at least in comparison to what they get when they cater to the interests of Wall Street. It is a rather entertaining book from the point of view of partisan politics. It takes on some of shrillest ...

Impact: Fifty Short Stories

A fabulous collection of short short stories for teachers
"Impact" is a book my school has used for nearly a decade as an introduction to the short story, literary issues, and writing projects. An excellent selection of 50 short-short stories, "Impact" follows up each story with a discussion of some appropriate literary term, a selection of questions that are actually worth answering (as a teacher, I know how bad these usually are), and some really ...

Helpful guide to those with multiple food allergies
I found out my two-year-old son had a severe allergy to peanuts, but also lesser food allergies to milk, soy, eggs and wheat. After pulling my hair out wondering what to feed my son, I started looking for books and cookbooks on the topic. This is both, and it's great. Out of all the books I've bought, I like this one best. It has the most real-life recipes, using practical substitutes. If you or ...

GREAT
I thought that this was a great book. I used it for honors chemistry in high school and used the book more than the teacher did because I thought that the book gave some really good examples and lessons, which were completely worked through. This is a great book for people just starting to take chemistry. But beware, a few little topics are passed up, like calculating physical changes.

Thomas Jefferson

An interesting book from an historic standpoint.
This book is historically important, and used in US military schools as a template of good values. This book is merely a cut an paste of most of the "interesting values" in some of the gospels accepted and selected by the church. I do wish that Thomas Jefferson could include the recently discovered gospel of Judas, and also the gospel of Marie. This book should in my view be seen in the ...

Great Fantasy
Lloyd Alexander was one of my favorite authors as a young adult and his work has really held up now that I'm an adult. The stories and characters are just so well crafted and executed. This is a great book to go back to or to get for someone who is just starting to explore the realms of fantasy.

Totally Worth It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased this book about five years ago while just getting out of undergraduate school. The practical tips and ideas about developing work helped out immensely. The writing is pratical advice which helps anyone who is starting out, to cut out at least six months to a year of bumbling mistakes one would normally make when approaching the beginnings of an art career. Along with all the good ...

Exciting new spin on Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby This book follows the same pattern as the classic Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? but with an exciting new spin -- exotic, endangered animals. It also has a delightful surprise ending that makes it perfect for a bedtime story.

"Say It Ain't So, Joe. . ."
Eliot Asinof played minor league baseball briefly, but his claim to fame is this riveting account of the 1919 World Series. The heavily favored Chicago White Sox lost the best of nine series to the Cincinnati Reds in eight games. In the following season, the White Sox were engaged in another pennant race when a newspaper expose revealed that several key players had conspired with professional ...

students and penny-pinchers
the international paperback version of this book is exactly the same as the hardback version and it's considerably less expensive. it comes with the CD-ROM but does NOT provide OWL or online access codes to the web based program- but you can purchase those separately at the thomas learning website... and you'd still be saving money. as for the book, I've only been using it 3 weeks but I like ...

Norman Mailer

Helprin meets Hemingway, But Better [51][80]
At 25, Mailer's insightful yarn about a World War II battleground shows how precocious and mature his writing skills were at that young age. After having personally lived two years in that same war, maybe Mailer - like many of the characters in the book - arrived as a boy and left as a man. But, unlike his characters, we know he was extremely literate and given a gift to write. In college, ...

Amazing Story of Courage,Friendship and the Search for Truth
Taran Wanderer was not given the Newbery Award like it's successor The High King; nor was it awarded a Newbery Honor medal such as it's predecessor The Black Cauldron. However, Taran Wanderer is the most complete book in the Chronicles of Prydain. Lloyd Alexander deftly tells the tale of Taran's quest to find his parentage in hopes of being decendant from noble blood. Gurgi, Taran's faithful ...
