Simply the best!
This is my daughter's favorite book! I got it for her when she was about 6 months old (now 16 months), and I swear i've read it over 100 times by her request! That shows how much she loves this book. The rhyming and bright colors really capture her attention. I'm sure any young child will love this book too!

Great book!
My alumnae group read this book to 3rd graders at an inner-city school and the kids loved it! We had a map and games to go with it and the program was a big success. I highly recommend this book for teachers.

Bill Martin

Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), 1992

for all ages
My 2 year old granddaughter loved "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", so I knew she would like "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" The artwork is simple but attractive. The messages are short but very appropriate. As a former teacher, I would love to have used this book with third graders as an example of the use of specific verbs. They would have loved it just as Caitlin and my 9-month old grandson does. A ...

Over the Moon: An Adoption Tale26 reviews
Karen Katz

Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), 2001

Lovely adoption tale
My two year old daughter, born in Guatemala, and I both love this book. The illustrations are fantastic and the text is sweet. At the end the parents tell their new daughter that they will always be her parents and she will always be their daughter, and my daughter often repeats this. Highly recommended!

The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain)117 reviews
Lloyd Alexander

Henry Holt and Co. BYR Paperbacks, 2006

Great Fantasy
Lloyd Alexander was one of my favorite authors as a young adult and his work has really held up now that I'm an adult. The stories and characters are just so well crafted and executed. This is a great book to go back to or to get for someone who is just starting to explore the realms of fantasy.

The Book of Three (The Chronicles of Prydain)229 reviews
Lloyd Alexander

Henry Holt and Co. BYR Paperbacks, 2006

A Wonderful Experience.
I first read the Prydain Chronicles when I was 10 years old, and can safely say that in my 45 years, I have never enjoyed a series of books more. To those who haven't read them, I am truly envious--to be able to enjoy and savor these books for the first time would be wonderful. The themes and lessons that Lloyd Alexander incorporated into this book were things that I was not able to ...

Exciting new spin on Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby This book follows the same pattern as the classic Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? but with an exciting new spin -- exotic, endangered animals. It also has a delightful surprise ending that makes it perfect for a bedtime story.

The High King (The Chronicles of Prydain)126 reviews
Lloyd Alexander

Henry Holt and Co. BYR Paperbacks, 2006

The Perfect Fantasy
It is NOT my intent to be inflammatory or insulting with this review. However, as humans, we live and die by comparing and contrasting, so I can't help it if I do so. Please don't shoot the messenger because I rate Alexander's series according to personal standards. Second, I am not merely reviewing The High King here; this is the best place to review the entire Chronicles of Prydain, and so I ...

Outstanding baseball story - and so much more.

In fact, it seems like everything about his life will be different. His father can't hide the pity and guilt he feels over Norm's accident. Taran Wanderer (The Chronicles of Prydain)55 reviews
Lloyd Alexander

Henry Holt and Co. BYR Paperbacks, 2006

Amazing Story of Courage,Friendship and the Search for Truth
Taran Wanderer was not given the Newbery Award like it's successor The High King; nor was it awarded a Newbery Honor medal such as it's predecessor The Black Cauldron. However, Taran Wanderer is the most complete book in the Chronicles of Prydain. Lloyd Alexander deftly tells the tale of Taran's quest to find his parentage in hopes of being decendant from noble blood. Gurgi, Taran's faithful ...

Anansi the Spider: A Tale from the Ashanti10 reviews

Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), 1972

Vibrant, vivid illustration and a wonderful tale
The Anansi stories have been handed down through generations of Ashanti culture. This book is a wonderful, vibrant and vivid story for children of all ages. Born in Ghana I left at aged 3, leaving much of the Ghanaian culture behind. At aged 30 I can still remember a song about Anansi the spider, the only remnants left of my native tongue. I was given the Anansi book as a child, it captivated me, ...

Peter Pan (100th Anniversary Edition)20 reviews
J. M. Barrie

Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), 2003

Excellent book, 5 stars
This is a wonderful book for both children and adults. The book mostly takes place in Neverland, a magical world that exists both in childrens own minds and that is real. The main characters are Wendy, John, Michael, the lost boys, Captain Hook, Tinker Bell, and, of course, Peter Pan. Peter does not want to grow up, and refuses to stay long in the real world because of it. Peter's arch nemesis is ...

The Castle of Llyr (The Chronicles of Prydain)49 reviews
Lloyd Alexander

Henry Holt and Co. BYR Paperbacks, 2006

Great Kid's Book
As a kid I read the Prydain books again and again. I can't resist some Harry Potter comparisons, and since they make a good common point of reference, I'll use the device here. The Prydain books aren't quite as exciting and magical as HP, but they have many of the same coming of age problems expressed through allegory, and frankly I find the characters better developed, more humorous, and more ...
