A Taste of Eastern Orthodoxy
While small in size, this book contains morning and evening prayers, highlights from the Divine Liturgy, prayers (troparia and kondakia) from the major feasts of the Holy Orthodox Church, as well as various canons (readings) for repentance and for Holy Eucharist. It also gives current usages and customs of the Church. Downside: Westerners may be offended by some comments in the back of the book ...

Ignatius Brianchianinov

Holy Trinity Monastery, 1982

Highly Recommended Reading for Orthodox Christians
This is a beautiful and helpful guide for these last days for Orthodox Christians. It's one of the first Monastic books I've read that can be clearly adapted to the life of the Orthodox laity. "What are the chief sources upon which Ignatius relies in presenting his picture of the Christian path? First and foremost come the Bible...'Never cease studying the Gospel till the end of your life...Do ...

Nikolai Vasilevich Gogol

A door into the vastness that is
Devotion is the key to opening the human heart. Devotion is the highest form of compassion, and adherence to the particulars of sacred ritual is the highest form of devotion. Nikolai Gogol understood this, and he shares with us in this little pamphlet how he came to understand this key to the human heart, through the Holy Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, or the Sunday service of the Orthodox ...

Eternal Mysteries Beyond the Grave2 reviews
Panteleimon Archimandrite

Holy Trinity Monastery,US

The not talked about REALITY of death
WOW! What can I say about this book, only that it has changed my life. It made me stop and look from all sides into my own soul and realize how important it is to follow what our savior gave us, the commendments, Repentance of our sins. This book tells you basically what happens to a persons soul after the body dies. How scarry is that moment of death if you are not ready or don't have any ...

The Life and Miracles of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg (Great Ascetics of Russia, Book 2)
Holy Trinity Monastery

Holy Trinity Monastery, 1997

Originally published in 1973, just prior to the glorification of the Blessed Xenia as a saint of the Orthodox Church. St. Xenia reposed in St. Petersburg, Russia about 1803, at the age of 71. She is a member of that rare class of Orthodox saints known as the "Fools for Christ's Sake", i.e., she feigned insanity as her God-given ascesis. This book gives what is known of her life, but most of the book is 26 accounts (many by eyewitnesses) of ...

My Life in Christ1 review
St John of Kronstadt

Holy Trinity Monastery, 1911

A Modern Saint
I receive quotes from this book in a news letter and they are very inspirational as well as relevant. John was a priest in the rough Russian port city of Kronstadt. He was a spokesman for the poor and was not afraid to criticize the Tsar. In spite of this, he was killed by the Bolsheviks. I haven't been able to buy the book because it is out of print.
