Taboo: The Art of Tiki5 reviews
Martin McIntosh, Sven Kirsten

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1999

A must for any pop culture fan!
I highly recommend this book to all those interested in tikis (of course), art (especially those who enjoy Juxtapoz art magazine), or popular culture in general. I loved both the art (paintings, photos, carvings and more), and the essays by Sven Kirsten and Boyd Rice. The book is full of great art in vibrant color.

Vaughn Bode's Erotica1 review
Vaughn Bode

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1984

Very amusing underground 'toons for adults!
Our most favorite eccentric in the whole comix-makin' field of the 1970s presents us with his very vivid color-drenched fantasies featuring those ugly toad-like lechers and their very naked "Bode Broad" girlie companions with their fat, bouncing breasts and perky, swinging buttocks. Very groovy! Such beautiful, dreamy artwork evidently influenced by LSD visions and such funny, bizarre comic ...

Notes from the Pop Underground1 review

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1985

An All-Time Favorite on Underground Pop Culture
I first picked up this book from a street vendor while visiting NYC in the early 90's, and later I ended up losing it somewhere. I was so happy to be able to get another copy of it, even if it was used. Belsito interviews many underground artists like Jim Jarmusch, Jello Biafro, Diamanda Galas, Ivan Stang from The Church of the Subgenius, Keith Haring, and others who would have been ...

Streetart, the Punk Poster in San Francisco, 1977-19812 reviews

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1981

good.
I enjoyed it. It had many bands that were obscure and so forth. I think it's a total must! Eye candy for sure! Anyone who likes to study music history, or who is into punk need to get this.

The Art of Mark Ryden: Anima Mundi17 reviews
Mark Ryden, Carlo McCormack

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 2001

Awe Inspiring
I have owned Mark Ryden's Anima Mundi for quite some time now and never tire of looking through it and admiring the masterpieces inside. In fact, it seems like I discover new and amazing details each time I look through it! Mark Ryden is truly an awe inspiring artist and Anima Mundi contains some of his better known works. If you get the chance to view a copy of this book, take it! I can almost ...

A Guide to Mysterious San Francisco: Dr. Weirde's Weirde Tours3 reviews
Weirde

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1994

Home is a Place you Always Come Back to
Any San Francisco guidebook can send you to the most popular restaurant in town or direct you to a museum. A really good one can fill you in on the historical significance of that plaque at the corner of Bush & Burrit and give you a brief biography of Emperor Norton. But only the best of them can guide you to the sites of famous murders, hauntings, weirde occurences and centers of supernatural ...

Gentle Swastika3 reviews
ManWoman

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 2001

A dose of much needed information
I happened upon this wonderful book at BMEshop. Luckily, I was able to acquire a super limited first edition copy signed by the artist and author, ManWoman. In this, ManWoman makes it his goal to explain the true swastika, the one that is a symbol of hope, love, peace, and unity to billions. Carefully researched, there are plenty of pictures to go along with the literary evidence. Sure, ...

Porn Art 23 reviews
Dahmane

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1998

Flesh and Desire as Art
This book represent an artist's view of flesh and desire. Akin to the pornographic books that were popular with intelligentsia in the 30's, this book explore pornography, not as the fulfilment of base desires and dirty acts, but as the celebration of the most basic human act, pleasuring. Of course, the images of this book, of a rare photographic perfection, are not for the faint or heart or ...

Illustrated Kama Sutra8 reviews
Pichard

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1991

Don't waste your money
This book actually deserves zero stars. The illustrations have nothing to do with the text -- they're all bondage, S&M, and other highly disturbing stuff. If you're really interested in the Kama Sutra, get the new unabridged translation, not this garbage.

Dead Kennedys the Unauthorized Version9 reviews
Marian Kester

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1983

Punk Morals or Punk Entertainment?
This book was, in my opinion, the most interesting compilation of DK info/lyrics/pictures that I've ever seen. Being part of the FOWJB (Formerly Obsessed With Jello Biafra) Club, I know how it feels to pick up this book being a DK fan. I found the book in Tower Records in New York, and I was intensely happy with just looking at the book for at least a week after. It is an incredible find for ...

White Death (Collection Album)1 review
Robbie Morrison

Last Gasp Of San Francisco, 2002

so-so
The art work is hard to read, the type is computer set and sometimes is too small. It would have been nice if more attention was paid to craft, the visual storytelling is just so so. I would check it out in a comic shop, not buy it.

Closet Cultivator13 reviews
Ed Rosenthal

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1991

Debugging the lies
I've read this book several times and found it very useful. Though decievingly complicated, a little extra attention can help you make a cheap and effective system. The top three reviewers are obiously all the same person(they have similar comments and come from the same place; no coincidence). The reviewer didnt even read the book, saying that there is no information on making system. There ...

Duran Duran Scrapbook1 review

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1986

Duran again
For a book intended for teeny boppers about a band that was at the time a teen idol band, it's really fairly good. Filled with great pictures of the band in their early years (back when they were the 'fab five'), it also contains some great tidbits of information about the boys. Something every fan needs for their collection.

Memoirs of a Beatnik16 reviews
Diane Di Prima

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1988

'Not Porn?' No, but not for prudes!
No, it is not porn...but it is definitely not for prudes! This book gave me a gorgeous, ripe, sensual snapshot of the life and the times of Diane DiPrima and the subculture in which she existed. The writing sometimes lacked, but overall - it's a juicy peach with a bittersweet aftertase.

How to Build a Bigger & Better Hydroponic Garden for Less Than $201 review
Ed Sherman

Last Gasp of San Francisco, 1985

How to Build a Bigger & Better Hydroponic Garden for < $20
The book is a great source of information on hydroponic gardening (forgetting the < $20 part). Even though some of the pics are dated the info is still current. Having started a hydro garden, this book could have saved me many false starts and I could have avoided many problem areas. I highly recommend the book if you want to give indoor gardening a shot.
