Legend, 1988

Engaging Folk Tale
Alvin Miller is born the seventh son of a seventh son, thus he is the focus of great power in this tale set in an alternate version of the American frontier where folk magic, hexes and yarb lore are all real and taken quite seriously by characters in the story. Alvin has so much power that one of the elemental forces of nature, water, pits itself against him - in the form of The Unmaker - and ...

First King of Shannara148 reviews
Terry Brooks

Legend, 1996

Answered a lot of my questions
First King helped to answer a lot of the questions I had about the Sword of Shannara trilogy, such as the history of the creation of the actual sword and how Jerle failed at defeating the dark forces. It also brought into play the black elfstone, giving us a little more information about this mysterious stone. The book was relatively short for Brooks, considering it was a one book stand alone ...

Legend, 1989

Alvin champions the cause of Native Americans
In a pre-industrial America where magic, religion, and science compete for ascendancy, Card has created a unique alternate history wherein the states are not united, various regions owe allegiance to various central governments, and Native Americans represent a dangerous and unpredictable force. Picking up the story of Alvin Miller begun so impressively in Seventh Son, Card introduces Alvin to ...

Speaker for the Dead409 reviews
Orson Scott Card

Legend, 1992

Great book
I thought this book was a very good book, It included a good deal of exciting science. It was very well written also the text flowed and was very easy to read. Most of all it was intellectually stimulating as it discussed many complex societal issues and ethical issues with out destroying the story. All in all it is a great work of fiction that is entertaining as well as sofisticated.

Bridge of Birds169 reviews
Barry Hughart

Legend, 1986

It's called Fantasy for a reason
I first read this book about 20 years ago. I read the two reviews that gave it only one star because I was curious why their reaction was so different from mine. After reading the two reviews, I believe I understand the problem. It's called Fantasy for a reason. It's not Literature, and it's not a History of ancient china. Barry Hughart taught me that ancient wise men don't see ...

The Elf Queen of Shannara (Heritage of Shannara)53 reviews
Terry Brooks

Legend, 1992

Entertaining Book
This book deals mostly with Wren and Garth and their struggles to follow Allanon's commands and move the Elves back to the four lands. At first I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did because they were the most uninteresting characters in the first two books. However, I thought this book was very enjoyable. This book is mostly non stop action/peril sequences and will not go ...

Legend, 1991

wonderful story
Tailchaiser's Song was a wonderfully written story. The minute you start to read- the characters come to life and you want to read it in one sitting, but are sad to end the story. Wish there was a part 2.

Tad Williams

Legend, 1991

Amazing!!!!
This is one of the best fantasy stories I've ever read, and I couldn't wait to get this book right after I finished Dragonbone Chair. A plus for this version: this book is larger in size, easy to hold, and much easier to read. A must buy!!!!
