Understanding Torts5 reviews
John L. Diamond

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2007

A really outstanding concise - but thorough hornbook
This is a really great book - it also is small ( less weight to carry in bookbag ) - it has some short commings ( light on product liability ) - I used this with Epstein on Torts ( Aspen Hornbook ) Shapo on Torts ( West Hornbook ). You will find that all authors give some topics less attention than others - hence the plethora of hornbooks. Emmanuals & Gilberts are not so good.. Also - get the ...

The First Amendment: Cases, Problems, and Materials
Russell L. Weaver

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2006

This new book focuses on accessibility and teachability. Moreover, it is designed to help students understand First Amendment theory, lead students to greater insights, generate classroom interactivity, and facilitate effective and inspired learning. It accomplishes these objectives through the inclusion of problems. Many problems are factual in nature and are designed to encourage students to think about constitutional doctrine in context. ...

Civil Procedure: Cases, Materials, and Questions1 review
Richard D. Freer, Wendy Collins Perdue

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2008

Clear coverage of Civil Procedure concepts
CivPro is notoriously the most difficult first-year course. F&P, while not simplifying the material, does help make the material more comprehensible. The authors use a socratic method in the casebook. If you read the case and work through the questions after the case, you should have a pretty good understanding of the case and why the authors included it. They also, and this will kill some who ...

Victimology1 review
William G. Doerner, Steven P. Lab

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2007

Why the old examples?
This comes from William Doerner & Steve Lab's "Victimology" 3rd edition, published this year [2002] from the third chapter, 'The Costs of Being a Victim.' Read it critically, because the casual reader is being set up to accept history as contemporary fact. Look at the tense Doerner writes in, even though his example is now thirty years old" The Second Insult: System Participation A victim's ...

Understanding Property Law3 reviews
John G. Sprankling

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2007

Great if you didn't pay attention all Semester
I have not used any other Hornbook or Outline, so I cannot compare this book to any others. However, I did not know what was going on at all in Property up until 2 weeks before the final when I opened this book. Everything from Defeasable estates to Equitable servitudes and Takings suddenly made much more sense. It tracks pretty well with the Dukemeier case book as well. I would highly ...

Understanding Copyright Law (Legal Text Series)4 reviews
Marshall A. Leaffer

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 1999

If you own only one copyright practice aid . . .
I used this book to learn Copyright law while in school. I have since found that is the essential guide for practice as well. Not many of my law school text books have made it to my office shelves. . .this book is not only in my office, but it is on my desk whenever an IP issue arises. It is excellent.

Taxation of Individual Income
J. Martin Burke

LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2007

This leading casebook employs a unique problem method, which many past students have found to be highly effective, stimulating, challenging and enjoyable. Students are provided material that allow them to arrive at their own conclusions about income tax concepts, rather than the text merely setting out such concepts for them. Each chapter begins with a set of problems with learning objectives and a list of relevant terms without definitions. ...
