The Book Thief 351 reviews Markus Zusak
Listening Library (Audio), 2006
A wonder of a read Before I get started here I just want to emphasize that this is my opinion. I realize that taste is something to consider, and I am sensitive to that, but frankly, this book deserves far more attention than it has received. This writer also has something many writers putting out novels today do not posess: talent! I consider many of the prize winners, and popular authors to be skilled in ...

Lord of the Flies 1267 reviews
Listening Library, 2002
Who needs Rowling when you've got Golding? LORD OF THE FLIES, by William Golding, is one of the best books to come along in literature since Chaucer and his CANTERBURY TALES. Mr. Golding writes beautifully and poetically of this tragic commentary on humans and our society, making the story of these young boys all the more poignant and thought-provoking.
This book is not for the weak of mind, nor the faint of heart. Several high ...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) 3134 reviews J.K. Rowling
Listening Library (Audio), 2007
An Amazing Read!!!! This book was bar far one of the best in the series. I always love how in depth she goes with the characters. You can not help but grow to love every single one of them, and feel their pain when something happens. Their were some parts however that felt like that drug on forever, but she always managed to throw in some twists and turns into those. Highly recommended, great read.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 4) 46 reviews Rick Riordan
Listening Library (Audio), 2008
Funny, Interesting, and Educational! This is an amazing book series, where humor and information meet. Younger kids and adults alike can learn about classic Greek mythology while constantly wondering what new plot twist will happen next. The Battle of the Labyrinth is the 4th in the series, and has tied up some loose ends. Humor lovers will love this series.

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2) 87 reviews Rick Riordan
Listening Library (Audio), 2006
Better than the First . . . This sequel to The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1) is very much more of the same: A pop version of greek mythology, set in the life of a contemporary teenager. The order matters, so you should certainly start with the first book in the series.
If you have already read that one, this sequel will not disappoint: Indeed, by not having to lay out the rather ...

This is A Great Book The Giver is one of those stories that keeps you involved from start to finish. You spend much of the book trying to figure out where you are, only to discover that the utopia does not exist. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great book to read!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) 5410 reviews J.K. Rowling

Exciting story for the summer vacation roadtrip! Our family enjoys the annual summer vacation road trip - seeing the countryside; anticipating our arrival at the vacation destination and listening to audio books. My son and daughter are 6 1/2 and 9 - they were thrilled by Jim Dale's reading of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. He does a great job of creating a distinct voice for each of the book's characters and the pacing is spot on. ...

Into Thin Air 1468 reviews Jon Krakauer
Listening Library, 2000
Killer read and a testament to the human spirit! I just read this book while on vacation in Mexico for a week. Talk about gripping! Each successive camp takes you higher and higher, as the suspense builds. You really get a feel for the determination and ultimate tragedy that drove and still drives people to climb Everest. Some people take issue with Krakauer, but you should give it a read and decide for yourself. PBS recently ran a two hour ...

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan 566 reviews Lisa See
Listening Library, 2006
One of the best I've read this year! Snow Flower & the Secret Fan was chosen by my book club and I am glad for this, otherwise I might have missed out on this treasure. This is a beautifully written book about the strength of women during a period of time that they were believed to be as weak or important as a family pet nowadays. Nor were they treated much better! However, this novel does a fabulous job at illustrating that ...

The Mysterious Benedict Society 62 reviews Trenton Lee Stewart
Listening Library (Audio), 2007
Stories for Children Magazine 5 Star Review When I first started reading the first few chapters I wasn't sure I was going to like the book. I felt it had a bit of a slow start and it took sometime for me to bond with the main character, Reynie Muldoon. After sticking to my rule, which is to read the first 100 pages before putting a book down, I started to be drawn into the storyline. The Mysterious Benedict Society is about a bund of ...
