Lonely Planet Korean Phrasebook20 reviews

Good book - difficult language
I have been in Seoul off and on - for business - for the past year. Despite rumors to the contrary, I find this an extremely difficult language. Most Koreans under the age of thirty have a working knowledge of English. Ordering coffee at Starbuck's is certainly not a problem, restaurants are often a problem, department stores pretty impossible. Once you get used to the sections in this book, at ...

The Only Way to Communicate
This book is worth its weight and more in gold. I depended on this book so much during my 2 month trip to Mongolia, traveling the road less travelled. Don't go to Mongolia without this.

Reliable - as always.
I like Lonely Planet Guides - having enhanced holidays in places from Myanmar to Maine using them. The LP India is particularly useful for independent travellers.

Lonely Planet Greek Islands18 reviews
Paul Hellander, Kate Armstrong, ...

Lonely Planet Publications, 2006

Excellent guide to the Greek islands!
Like its companion book (Lonely Planet Greece), this is an excellent guide (but just to the islands)! It is concise, reads very easily, and gives good common-sense recommendations on what to see and where to stay. It is as up-to-date as you can reasonably expect with changing prices and euro/dollar fluctuations. A very, very practical guide from the budget tourist to middle class. Excellent ...

Lonely Planet China13 reviews

Lonely Planet Publications, 2007

Death by Lonely Planet
An exceptional travel guide. Do not count on the prices being accurate but the big picture is spot on. There are two problems with the Lonely Planet guide: it is too heavy for a traveler; it is on the banned books list in China (but my copy was not taken in my last two trips). Death by Lonely Planet refers to guiding thousands of tourists to a once untouched spot. The Lonely Planet guide ...

Lonely Planet Los Angeles & Southern California3 reviews
Andrea Schute-Peevers, John A. Vlahides

Lonely Planet Publications, 2005

Best of the crop.
We spent a week in the LA area visiting a long term resident and used this book every day! We wanted to visit both tourist sites and places off the beaten track, and were able to do both. Our family had a diverse list of places to go and things to do - see a star or two, visit hollywood, visit some ethnic areas (such as Little Saigon for an article for chaobannewsletter.com), visit an aquarium, ...

The SE asia bible!
Used this book to travel in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Bali (though I finally ended up buying another book for Bali as Indonesia itself is huge). Don't know if there is a better book that covers so many countries this well. Other people on tour had the Rough guide to SE Asia book and we found this one to be more useful because it had better maps and more information. Obviously ...

EXCELLENT RESOURCE
My husband and I have been to Greece 3 times using our 4th edition LP Greece. The maps are excellent; we've gotten exactly where we need to go. We read about the different islands, appear at the port w/our luggage, and take whatever boat is going next to a particular group, i.e. Cyclades, and read about the various other stops on the way. The book is not designed to be a travel agent by doing ...

Lonely Planet World Food Italy (Lonely Planet World Food Guides)4 reviews
Matthew Evans

Lonely Planet Publications, 2000

The ultimate foodie travel guide
This book is a gem. Lonely Planet has some of the best, behind the scenes, adventurous and independent minded travel guides....."World Food, Italy" never strays from this focus. Better yet, it for the true food loving traveler. It doesn't provide tips on the hottest restaurants to visit in this vast dining paradise, but instead gives insight into Italian culture through food and describes ...

Lonely Planet Thailand14 reviews
Joe Cummings, Morgan Konn, ...

Lonely Planet Publications, 2005

Outstanding for the first time visitor
I just returned from a month in Thailand and found the Lonely Planet Guide to be very impressive. Several things to remember is that: a) if the publishing date is 2005 the content is probably several months to a year older. b) if you have local friends and/or family the guide will still be useful but not nearly so compared to a traveler who is on their own. You might keep thinking why ...

Lonely Planet Road Trip Route 66 (Road Trip Guides)4 reviews
Sara Benson

Lonely Planet Publications, 2003

Essential for a Route 66 Road Trip
If you're heading out on a tour of the Mother Road, take this with you. Along with listings for sites you won't find in some other guides, this book also has addresses and phone numbers so you can contact hotels, etc., in advance. When I was setting up my agenda for a Route 66 tour, this is the only place I found a reference to "Elmer's Place." Check it out when you're on the road...

Lonely Planet Egypt34 reviews

If you only bought one travel guide to Egypt this is it
This book is fantastic, I wore it out during my year and a half stay in Egypt and it was essential in planning a lot of my trips. In a land where bargaining rules you need to know the rules of the game and this book not only gave you tips to finding good bargains but also provided you with pretty accurate estimates to what the normal price would be (which is often not what the average tourist ...

american living in turkey- great guide
Come ivsit Turkey and use Lonely Planet to help you with your tour! I have lived in Turkey for a year. The Lonely Planet goes everywhere with us...it is worn and bent and highlighted and marked up and excellent. We have been completely happy with all the suggestions from LP. Here is the thing. Turkey is a fabulous country, however, there are a few things LP cannot control. 1. The prices are ...

Lonely Planet Publications, 2004

This book is spot on.
I traveled to Guatemala for two weeks in the summer of 2005 and used Lonely Planet the entire time. It was my first trip there, so I needed and wanted extensive detail and maps, which this book provided. I found it to be right on about everything from restaurants and hotels to ATM locations. I appreciated the small bits of cultural and historical information as well. The transportation ...

Lonely Planet Cape Cod, Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)1 review
Andrew Bender

Lonely Planet Publications, 2005

If you want ONE guide to the Cape, this is it!
I spotted this Lonely Planet guide for the Cape at the library. Using it during a long weekend at the Cape made me realize I needed to own it. It contains a wealth of useful, interesting information about what to see and do--and every restaurant evaluation from it was accurate. This guidebook is worth every penny for a family or a couple traveling alone.
