Lighthouse Fireflies3 reviews
Anne Margaret Lewis

Mackinac Island Press, Inc., 2005

A Lovely Gift Book
We think this is a lovely book to give to new grandparents, especially those with a love of lighthouses, to read to a grandchild at about age 5. In fact, we have purchased several for that purpose. There is a worthwhile message for children about protecting wildlife. The writing, in poem form, is charming and the illustrations are enchanting.

Stolen Stegosaurus (#2 in PaleoJoe's Dinosaur Detective Club series) (Paleojoe's Dinosaur Detective Club)1 review
PaleoJoe, Wendy Caszatt-Allen

Mackinac Island Press, Inc., 2006

A wonderful story with real paleontology
I saw the author PaleoJoe at a library presentation and he was excellent. The kids loved him and had to get his books. This is the second book in the series of chapter books--kid of like a Dinosaur CSI-- and the first 3 were all fantastic and we are waiting for the 4th. I read them with the kids and like them, too. If you or your kids like Nate the Great, its a sure hit and the perfect ...

The Day the Great Lakes Drained Away2 reviews
Charles Ferguson Barker

Mackinac Island Press, Inc., 2005

Interesting Look Beneath the Great Lake
I saw this book at a bookstore in Traverse City, MI and finally found it here on Amazon.com. The drawings are simple, but the information about what lies beneath the Great Lakes is interesting. Having grown up in Michigan, I was not aware of many of these facts. While the book will appeal to younger readers due to the artwork, the simple facts about the lakes will be interesing to adults as well. ...

Who Stole the Animal Poop? (Buck Wilder's Adventures) (Buck Wilder's Adventures)1 review
Tim R. Smith

Mackinac Island Press, Inc., 2006

Great book for boys who love nature and wilderness!
My son was very reluctant to read; he was actualy falling behind in his 3rd grade class. He wasn't interested in any books at the school library (very small - Montana town - blink and you will miss it!) so I ordered the whole series of Buck Wilder and my son loves them. He also enjoys Fudge too. We hope there will be more Buck Wilder books coming out!

While browsing through childrens' picture books when visiting the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, MI, the title and illustrations of Tears of Mother Bear immediately caught my attention. An adventure into the world of fantasy firmly grounded in one girl's reality. Elise shows responsibility and the fairy demonstrates faithfulness in a new friendship. Beautifully illustrated. My kids love this story and have discussed it several times upon each additional reading. This book has also influenced them to draw and paint more.

Has Anyone Seen Christmas?6 reviews
Anne Margaret Lewis

Mackinac Island Press, Inc., 2005

What a truly delightful children's book is this!
As a Michigander myself, it always pleases me when an author, illustrator and/or an in-state publisher makes it big. This book is on its way to becoming a Christmas classic. As I understand it, the most books sold by this publisher to date (I believe that book was written by the same author) was 15,000. Has Anyone Seen Christmas has already exceeded that number and it looks like as many as 90,000 ...
