Stitched Collage: Creative Effects on Paper and Fabric26 reviews
Sherrill Kahn

Martingale and Company, 2008

Sherrill Rocks
Upon reading the reviews for Sherrill Kahn's latest book Stitched Collage ,I strongly disagree with the negative reviews. This book joyfully showcases Sherrill's signature style and color sense. There was a lot of very useful information that I as a long-time fiber/mixed media artist haven't seen in such a comprehensive way as this book offers. Since when does a book have to be more than 32 ...

The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques50 reviews
Nancie M. Wiseman

Martingale and Company, 2002

Don't go by the title
Okay the worst thing about this book is the title. The book does not really focus on "finishing techniques," but is a great all-round knitting reference book. It's fast becoming my favorite because of the clear directions and illustrations (including really helpful guidance that other books don't make, such as SSP is for the beginning of a row and P2tog is for the end). When I have a question, ...

Rolling Along: Easy Quilts from 2 1/2" Strips : Jelly Roll Friendly2 reviews
Nancy J. Martin

Martingale and Company, 2008

Have fun with Jelly Rolls
Have you seen those "Jelly Rolls" in your favorite fabric store? Ever wondered what on earth you could do with them? Ms. Martin gives you a whole book on just that subject---10 quilts and 3 other projects --- a tote bag, a pillow and a Table Runner. With the 13 projects, you will be busy for a long time. OK, so you don't have Jelly Rolls and you don't want to spend the money on getting one. ...

Ocean Breezes: Knitted Scarves Inspired by the Sea14 reviews
Sheryl Thies

Martingale and Company, 2007

Unusual and beautiful scarves
I have a lot of patterns for knitting scarves and certainly didn't need any more. But this book is a stand-out. The scarves are beautiful and inspiring. The pictures are very clear so you can see the details. I have picked out 2 to make right away.

Knitting Circles Around Socks: Knit Two at a Time on Circular Needles28 reviews
Antje Gillingham

Martingale and Company, 2007

Fun way to knit socks!
I decided to order this book to try the knitting two socks at a time method. Wow! What fun! I am about half-way through my second pair. I used the directions and adapted a pattern using double-pointed needles and the first pair fits perfectly! I love that I am able to try on the socks as I knit them - impossible to do with double pointed needles.

Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet18 reviews
Ana Paula Rimoli

Martingale and Company, 2008

A Really Great Little Book
This is the second of three books I purchased on amigurumi. To be honest, I bought it because the pictures on the front were so adorable that they put me on a hunt for the author on the internet. I found her blog, which is terrific, and then I bought her book. I'm glad I did, because this book is definitely for the beginning crocheter. There are no assumptions that the reader has any more ...

Wonder Blocks: Stack, Cut, Sew, and Go (That Patchwork Place)1 review
Terry Martin

Martingale and Company, 2008

Easy and Fast
Easy quilt blocks and LOTS of patterns! These are comfort words to a quilter. Ms. Martin has created a book that is all about easy blocks and lots of patterns. This is a version of "stack and whack" with a bit of a twist. There are seven basic blocks using seven different squares. Simply stack your fabrics, cut the squares, take the stacks to the sewing machine and piece the block! It is ...

Creative Embellishments: For Paper, Jewelry, Fabric and More20 reviews
Sherrill Kahn

Martingale and Company, 2007

inspiring book
I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend, and I was not disappointed. I have worked on mixed media backgrounds, but this book took me to another level of using embellishments with my backgrounds.

Cutting Garden Quilts: Fabulous Fusible Flowers (That Patchwork Place)6 reviews
Melinda Bula

Bringing your Garden Indoors with Cutting-Garden Quilts
On the dreariest February day you can imagine, I came across Melinda Bula's "Cutting-Garden Quilts" - and she reminded me that spring is just around the corner! Although I don't have a green thumb - and only dream of the gardens that inspire her quilts - she shows you how to create them out of fabric - with breathtaking results! Melinda wrote this book for two different audiences. For those ...

365 Knitting Stitches a Year Perpetual Calendar27 reviews
Ed Martingale

Martingale and Company, 2002

Excellent portable knit stitch library -- reputible company!
I fell in love with this book from the first moment I saw it -- which was probably the first year it was produced. The pictures are excellent. The directions are clear. The format (with the spiral binding and compact size) make it the perfect book to keep in your knitting bag when you go on the road. I have multiple knitting bags (multiple projects going on at any one time) so actually have ...

Quilts On The Double: Dozens of Easy Strip-Pieced Designs2 reviews
Judy Hooworth, Margaret Rolfe

Martingale and Company, 2008

Cut once, make two
By the time I had gotten to the second page of this book, I was HOOKED. I thought "Finally, someone who makes quilt blocks easy AND they can be put together in so many ways". This will be a book that our guild can use over and over as we make our charity quilts for Habitat for Humanity and Love and Hugs. The book shows 15 quilts but I'm going to bet that those 15 are just the tip of the ...

Reversible Quilts: Two at a Time16 reviews
Sharon Pederson

Martingale and Company, 2002

Easy and very quick
I found the details well written and easy to understand if you have knowledge of rotary cutting and machine piecing. If the quilter has no knowledge I would suggest using scrap fabric and not their best craft fabric. The tips given are worth following no matter the quilters skill level. The projects could be cut down in size especially for a beginner.

300 Paper-pieced Quilt Blocks16 reviews
Carol Doak

Martingale and Company, 2004

Why is this book different?
I own several paper-piecing books, some by Carol Doak. All of hers have been wonderful. This one stood out to me because of the smaller size blocks (3" to 4") and the CD which includes copies of the patterns. The size was important to me because I can now include beautiful paper-pieced blocks or portions of blocks in my borders easily. Many other books include patterns for larger blocks & you ...

The Little Box of Socks6 reviews
Charlene Schurch, Beth Parrott

Martingale and Company, 2008

Well Worth Adding To Your Sock Pattern Library
The last thing I need is another sock pattern book, but I just couldn't pass this one up. It has socks for every skill level and gives many, many, many options for working with hand-painted yarns so they don't "puddle" into blobs of color. Those patterns alone are worth the price of the book. There are even more great patterns, though. Lace socks, felted socks, Fair Isle socks, you name it, this ...
