X-Force, Vol. 3: Not Forgotten1 review
Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost

Marvel Comics, 2010

More greatness.
X-Force isn't your typical X-book and for that I'm kind of glad. Don't get me wrong, I love me some X-books. It's just nice sometimes to get away from the ultra do-gooder mold the X-Men have been in since their creation. Which is exactly what X-Force is. It is a team that was created to take on those matters which are unbecoming for a regular character. Some think it's necessary, some don't. ...

Thor, Vol. 32 reviews
J. Michael Straczynski

Marvel Comics, 2010

The End of JMS's run on Thor
First things first. This is a good book. JMS is excellent at writing and Marko Djurdjevic has beautiful art. My problem with this book, is that it is extremely short. It took me a less than a half-hour to read and four issues is not enough, but they know I'll buy it anyway. And honestly, this book isn't about Thor really at all. Bill has the main spotlight for all the issues, and is truly the ...

Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia3 reviews
Matt Fraction

Marvel Comics, 2009

A good X-Men story
With the "Dark Reign" status quo well underway at Marvel Comics, the spectre of Norman Osborn's rule falls across the pocket-universe of the X-Men, currently ensconced in San Francisco. With supervillain Simon Trask and his Humanity Now! coalition pushing 'Proposition X' to intrude on mutant reproduction rights, riots break out, and Norman, now the overlord of the Marvel United States, is called ...

Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 22: Ultimatum2 reviews
Brian Michael Bendis

Marvel Comics, 2010

another gold star for ultimate spider-man
frigging nice, the art alone was amazing but the story really got me going. once i started reading it i couldn't pt it down until i was done. the only bad thing is the waiting for the next TB. The last chapter will really impress you on how art can tell a great story.

Wolverine: Old Man Logan18 reviews
Mark Millar

Marvel Comics

Old Man Logan
This hard cover was one hell of a read. It showed the compassion of Logan, and a horrible pain in his heart. I loved it.

Incognito8 reviews
Ed Brubaker

Marvel Comics, 2009

Fantastic Superhero Noir
I am a big fan of Ed Brubaker. I love Sleeper, I love his Captain America, his Daredevil and the issues of Criminal I have read. Therefore, I had to buy this the instant it came out. Incognito has a similar feel to Criminal and Sleeper, which it is not surprising as all three are crime fiction and all three have the same duo writing and illustrating. Incognito is the story of a super villain ...

Dark Reign: The List3 reviews
Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Slott, ...

Marvel Comics, 2010

Surprisingly good
I figured this was some sort of filler of the dark reign storyline. Was surprised to see how good it is. Nice art and good stories. Not all tied together but a series of related short stories. Top notch art too. Good job, Marvel.

Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born71 reviews
Peter David, Stephen King, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

beautiful
As a King fan, I'd somehow avoided the Dar Tower series, probably because I didn't want to commit to a number of long books. However, finding this in a beautiful graphic form and still seeing King's distinctive stamp on it was a pleasure indeed. Now it's got me eyeing the text versions...highly recommended for all King fans and comics fans. Scott Nicholson The Red Church vs. They Hunger

Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: The Laughing Corpse Book 2 - Necromancer Premiere HC (Anita Blake, Vampire ...3 reviews
Laurell K. Hamilton, Jess Ruffner-Booth, ...

Marvel Comics, 2010

Space filling
I haven't read any of the source material for this HC but I must admit this is one of the slowest reads I've ever had. Some plotlines are developed but not enough to take up a whole book. There was no 'action' in the book and an awful lot of inner monologue that really felt unnecessary. It felt as though the writer was attempting to show horrific & terrible situations in an adult & meaningful ...

Criminal (Deluxe Edition)3 reviews
Ed Brubaker

Marvel Comics, 2009

Brubaker's work deserves the Hardcover treatment.
Ed Brubaker continues to prove he is one of the top writers in comic books today with this series. It's smart, concise and terse in its storytelling and harnesses the gritty realism of the best pulp stories. Phillp's art is hardcore stylish without being overly artsy. And please let me say, it's good to see a comic book series that isn't afraid to show a woman's nipples. How many times are we ...

Marvel Zombies 45 reviews
Fred Van Lente

Marvel Comics, 2009

More Zombies from the Marvel view.
Here we have round four of the Marvel take on the classic zombie. It is a stemming from the other volumes with a better supporting cast, in my opinion. I had lost some care for it during the middle volumes, and focused more on the "purist" zombie that Kirkman was working with in Walking Dead. However this book was able to bring the fun back to the title, and for that I say Zombie-ho!

Thor, Vol. 27 reviews
J. Michael Straczynski

Marvel Comics, 2009

Top Notch Work
I recently got into Thor and I must say, it is a good time to start. The pencilling and coloring is great, the art really jumps off the pages and is exactly what I would imagine the denizens of Asgard to look like. The writing is also spectacular, from the misguided nobility of Balder, to the machinations of Loki to the heroic deeds of Thor. This collection is a must have for any comic fan.

Invincible Iron Man, Vol. 2: World's Most Wanted, Book 13 reviews
Matt Fraction

Marvel Comics, 2009

Hunt This Book Down!
I'm amazed that Matt Fraction can write Uncanny X-Men one week and turn around and pen the extremely accessible Invincible Iron Man the next. The X-Men book assumes that readers have intimate knowledge of the characters' histories, to the point that it's nearly impossible for new readers to just jump on. Are there too many X-Men storylines and characters to juggle? Whatever the case, Invincible ...

Dark Avengers, Vol. 1: Assemble11 reviews
Brian Michael Bendis

Marvel Comics, 2009

Bring On the Bad Guys
The Avengers were pretty boring as a team until Brian Michael Bendis took over. And now, he takes it a step further. Dark Avengers is really an extension of the excellent Thunderbolts series and thankfully, artist Mike Deodato Jr continues his hyper realistic pencilling here. Having Norman Osborn serve out justice his way actually seems plausible, considering the state of the world these days. ...

The Death of Captain America Omnibus4 reviews
Ed Brubaker

Marvel Comics, 2009

Death and rebirth
As I've said before, I wasn't too fond of Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America when it first started out, what with bringing Bucky back from the dead and all, but eventually over time, I became a believer. With The Death of Captain America Omnibus, we witness Brubaker shockingly lay waste to star-spangled Avenger Steve Rogers in the wake of Civil War, which paves the way for Bucky to rise up and ...

War of Kings4 reviews
Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, ...

Marvel Comics

Fantastic Collection
The story is a solid Four-Star for me, but what really pushes this collection to five stars is just how comprehensive it is. I'd like to add that the book does also include the Secret Invasion: War of Kings one-shot, although it's not listed on the dust-jacket or in the product description.

Daredevil by Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev Omnibus, Vol. 23 reviews
Brian Michael Bendis

Marvel Comics, 2010

Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev take an excellent bow on Daredevil
If you've picked up the first Daredevil Omnibus by BMB and Alex Maleev then you know what to expect and i don't have to tell you of the quality this holds...even though i just told you. I don't really want to give away any plot, but like the first omnibus they manage to make decisions on the character that not only show how they've given the character the breath of fresh air he needed, but keep ...
