having been intrigued by the one plane vs. two plane swing revelations revealed in the Jim Hardy books. believing the ops make ultimate sense, having delved into hogan's mystique as a one planer. the secret of hogans swing, Bertrand also a recommended read. leading me to check out George Knudsen and his simplified balanced golf swing, not to be confused with natural golf even though that's the ...

Read It!
We own the Legacy Ranch high in the mountains of Northeastern Utah. For years we have loved the beauty of the unspoiled wilderness. Nursing newborn elk calves, watching Canadian Lynx outside their lairs, and many other adventures have cast us in the mold of lovers of the wilderness. To read the adventures of true cowboys, who started with nothing else but their "grit" and ended up with lives ...

Just what I needed
I'm 7mo into my nursing career in a Pediatric Cardiac ICU. I'm at the point where the "honeymoon" is over. The charge nurse is giving me more difficult assignments and the senior nurses are expecting more from me. Most days its great, its nice knowing that the senior staff has the confidence in you to assign challenging pts. Other days... well its nice to read a book reminding you that this is ...

A beautiful book that brings the history of the game alive...
If you're a hockey fan with an appreciation for the history of the game, *this* is the book you need to read... Hockey: A People's History by Michael McKinley. This both entertained and educated me, and brought the history of hockey alive in a way I've never seen it before. Any true Neil Young fan shouldn't miss this.
This book depicts Neil's life as seen from the eyes of his father's. Early childhood stories quickly give way to Neil's first meeting with Stephen Stills in New York, the journey to California from Ontario, formation of Buffalo Springfield etc. Chocked full of trivia, who met who and why various bands were formed. CSN&Y years up through the tour with the Shocking Pinks (and Dad)in the early ...

Leonard Cohen

The Psalms, Updated
Perhaps Leonard Cohen has never been a King, as was David, but the passion of his reflections truly invites comparison. Cohen struggles with G-d, in the finest tradition of Judaism-- indeed, of all spiritual combat. So he both speaks to G-d, and he listens. His listening compels me to listen with my own feeble ears. This is a book for all spiritual combatants, whether Jewish, Christian, or ...
The Making of a Nurse

An absorbing and revealing look into the day-to-day life of a nurse
The Making of a Nurse is the true-life story of author Tilda Shalof, a caregiver all her life, and an Intensive Care Unit nurse with twenty-five years of experience in Israel, New York, and Canada. She tells stories of overprotective "helicopter parents", so named for their tendency to hover over their children; dealing with patients ranging from gracious to delusional or even violent; to the ...

Nice little introduction to Jane Austen's food and culture
This is a lovely and shortish introduction to cooking and culture of eating and entertaining for the late Georgian period when Austen was alive. I loved the fact that this was about cooking and eating rather than some of the less universally approachable subjects (letters, literary criticism). Maggie Black and Deidre Le Faye have both written Jane Austen style and culture type books before so ...
Discerner of Hearts
Olive Senior
McClelland & Stewart, 1995
The nine vividly rendered stories of place and character in Discerner of Hearts are set in Jamaica, both rural and urban, some present-day, others looking back several decades. Senior’s gift for fine characterization, for recreating the music of everyday speech, pervades these tales, which explore notions of home and exile as well as the intricate realm of the human spirit – its fallible nature, its indomitable strength against the ...
The Brutal Heart
Gail Bowen
McClelland & Stewart, 2008
The bestselling Gail Bowen returns with a gripping story of marriage, politics, sex, and murder. With a general election just weeks away, Joanne Kilbourn is following the campaign of Ginny Monaghan, a woman who has her eyes set on the leadership of the federal Conservative Party and whose success depends, not so much on the election-day poll, but on the outcome of a custody battle she’s fighting with her ex. Joanne thinks this is perfect ...

My book is worn out
This is a great book. It is also an easy read. I have had many friends & co-workers curse me for lending them "this stupid book I can't put down" ...and then they ask if they can lend it to another friend. Pages are falling out in the middle becuase it is so well used.

Surprised by the shortage of reviews
This book was published in 1972. I find it odd there there is only one review (preceeding my comment). Surely, the audience for whom it was intended might have something to say about the book.

A Canadian Hockey Delight
As part of the trip to Canada, it was on the menu to read a good hockey book. I purchased this book before the trip in hopes of it being a worthy read. It is always disappointing to read bad material on vacation. Fortunately, this book did not disappoint. I remember this Canada Cup as a child. Unclear memories, but a hazy moment stands out. I remember the goal. I was just a child, but it ...

Wonderful Book!
This is a wonderful book full of useful and authoritative information as well as excellent recipes that are easy and not too time consuming. After I heard an interview with the authors on CBC Radio, I just had to have this book. I went out and bought it that same day. Now I am giving it for Christmas. The format of this book, with its shiny pages and great pictures makes it a book that ...

A Wonderful Vacation
If you love children's books and/or are an Anglophile at heart, you will love this book. The Bodger family is on a quest around England to find Pooh's Enchanted Place, Toad Hall and other places from classic British children's books. In addition to enjoying their literary discoveries, I enjoyed Joan Bodger's descriptions of the special challenges of traveling with young children. Food, ...

Proof that a monopoly results in a substandard product...
All in all, a good read that summarizes the impact the WHA had. It was a league of extremes ie the BEST ie Winnipeg Jets, Quebec Nordiques, and the worst ie New Jersey Knights, Denver Spurs, etc. It is worth noting that in pre season exhibition games between the NHL and WHA, the WHA won more games. The Jets were world class, and the Nordiques, Whalers and Aeros were as good as any respectible NHL ...

The Real Thing!
I've read all three of Hobson's excellent books about his adventures in the Canadian wilderness. My son, who is a real cowboy in Montana, told me about the books, saying, "These books tell the real story, mom--this is what it's like out here, particularly during the long, lonely, winter days and nights." Hobson's writing style, simple yet eloquent imagery, is perfect. I actually got ...

Entertaining, A quick read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Had to put it down once in a while to get some sleep! I had read an earlier book about the first NHL player that went to Russia. This fits in well with that book. A very good update about the players. The world hockey that you don't hear about in the States, and Canada. You will recognize the names. A good book.

A Must-Read Book!
This is a life-altering book. Anyone interested in improving their health needs to read it! It's a little technical, but in an era of "quick fixes" and crazy fad-diets, I found it refreshing to read a book based on extensive research and empirical scientific data. Most encouraging is that the foods that have been shown to be so helpful to improving our ability to defend against cancer, are ...
