Hidcote: The Garden and Lawrence Johnston1 review
Graham Pearson

National Trust, 2007

Hidcote: The Garden and Lawrence Johnston
Excellent detailed description of the history of the garden. Good bird's eye view of the garden makes it easy to follow locations. Overall descriptions of individual gardens but for me not enough details on plants. Nice planting plan drawing of the red border. Wished other areas had been detailed in the same way. Of the current books on Hidcote this is by far the best.

Complete Traditional Recipe Book1 review
Sarah Edington

National Trust, 2007

Complete Traditional Recipe Book
Love this book- many fine recipes. Only problems I found was the need for a food glossary, as many items contained in the book are not found in the US. (i.e.) Golden Syrup, blood pudding, ratafia biscuits. I was able to go online and search most of these out though, so it was ok, and really interesting to hunt ingredients down. The color photos are wonderful, and it is a high quality book, ...

Superb UK costume reference
This is a wonderful book! And I'm not saying that just because I'm English and I know intimately the Paulise de Bush collection (one of the collections featured in this book.). It deals specifically with the history of European costume (not American or ethnic costume - sorry, US of A'ians!) as reflected in the collections of English houses and collections in the National Trust, and has ...

Interesting background on the collector himself, in the book's introduction. A good source of information and ideas for anyone interested in 18th and 19th century headwear.
