The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers112 reviews
Scott Kelby

New Riders Press, 2006

Finally I see the light
First of all a disclaimer.... I was a reluctant convert to Photoshop, being a somewhat old-fashioned, conservative photography from the days of slides and negatives. I finally bought a copy of PSE 5 at the urgings of some of the younger photographers in my club. However my use of this tool was very limited, because all the instructions I could find seem to need me to be a whiz at the computer. ...

3ds max 4 Media Animation14 reviews
John Chismar

New Riders Press, 2001

The Benchmark for All Tutorial-Style Computer Text Books
This book is a fantastic example of how all computer text books should be structured - Step-by-step tutorials that demonstrate experienced solutions to real-world projects. I know I speak for many people when I say that I learn by DOING, not by reading paragraphs upon paragraphs of text and lengthy descriptions of "what this app can do for you". No one likes to attempt to digest a "features ...

Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching (3rd Edition)84 reviews
Katrin Eismann, Wayne Palmer

New Riders Press, 2006

Best Book Out There On Retouching
If you don't like Scott Kelby's Court Jester writing style, get this book. It's written professionally in easy to read phrases. I own both Kelby's and Eastman's book on this topic, and both cover similar things, but sometimes Kelby's results are more to my liking and sometimes Eastman's are. They cover different things too. Excellent book.

Photoshop Masking & Compositing83 reviews
Katrin Eismann

New Riders Press, 2004

Photoshop Essential
Although written for Photoshop CS, "Photoshop Masking & Compositing" can easily be applied to CS3. Eismann's experience as a teacher enables her to present complex material in an easy to follow style. The magic of Photoshop jumps off the pages. If you can sit down at a computer and follow step by step instructions in a book, you will wonder how you ever lived without this book.

Building Findable Websites: Web Standards SEO and Beyond28 reviews
Aarron Walter

New Riders Press, 2008

Excellent book full of practical, usable advice
Building Findable Websites: Web Standards, SEO, and Beyond by Aaron Walter is the best web development book I've read in a long time. It is densely packed with actionable advice for improving the "findability" of your site, and in so doing, improve the usability, readability, speed, and manageability of your site. Findability is a broader concept than simply SEO. It is helping people find your ...

Joseph Lowery's Beyond Dreamweaver14 reviews
Joseph Lowery

New Riders Press, 2002

Unique material
Joseph Lowery has a love affaire with Dreamweaver dating back to 1998 and version 1.0; that's why this book is more than just an expert writing about a piece of software, Joseph is passionate about Dreamweaver and the result is a real work of love. The book contains 10 chapters, covering different topics; each chapter stands on its own, allowing the reader to pick only one topic at time, there is ...

Flash Enabled: Flash Design and Development for Devices10 reviews
Phillip Torrone, Branden Hall, ...

New Riders Press, 2002

This book made us money - what more can we say?
This might not be the sort of application the authors envisioned, but the book certainly helped us! We run a small online casino off the coast of Britain, TheGoldCasino (dot-com), and our development staff is fairly sparse (we're aimed primarily at users of e-gold, so we're not a big operation). We wanted to experiment with mobile games, but we assumed the cost would be prohibitive. Flash ...

Windows NT Device Driver Development11 reviews
Viscarola

New Riders Press, 1998

Excellent
This book is VERY well written and VERY readable. I needed other sources to get an actual driver written (see Chris Cant's book) but only because this book gives a much more complete picture and I needed something more specific. That's my point...if you want a good, solid understanding of the system and an excellent reference, get this book. It's not often one finds technical-minded people ...

Maya 6 Killer Tips13 reviews
Eric Hanson, Kenneth Ibrahim, ...

New Riders Press, 2004

I HATE "TIP" BOOKS...
...but I absolutely LOVE this one. It is everything it says it is. I'm an intermediate user of Maya 5 and found every page had a meaty, time-saving killer tip. It does not waste time with step-by-step instruction, but rather describes the process to achieve a certain effect or technique. If you don't know the Maya interface, this book is not for you. But if you have exhausted all the obvious ...

Logo Design Love: A Guide to Creating Iconic Brand Identities16 reviews
David Airey

New Riders Press, 2009

A Logo Designer's Guide, FINALLY
I have been a Graphic Designer for about 12 years now. It seems that creativity is one of those things that you are 'supposed to be born with'. WRONG. As David Airey displays on his book, you don't need to be great at drawing or using a computer. David's formula for iconic brand creation goes step by step showing you in normal language the ropes of the design of a great iconic brand design. A ...

Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy (Voices (New Riders))13 reviews
Bert Monroy

New Riders Press, 2002

Paint in Photoshop!
Bert is a great artist and teacher. I took a class from him, and learned so much, but couldn't absorb it all at once. This book allows you to learn his techniques at your own pace, and will give you the confidence to start creating images from scratch in Photoshop, or add painting techniques to your image manipulation. Highly recommended for intermediate to advanced Photoshop users and all ...

The Art of the Documentary: Ten Conversations with Leading Directors, Cinematographers, Editors, and Producers9 reviews
Megan Cunningham

New Riders Press, 2005

Riveting reading
Consider this book a master class in documentary filmmaking. Megan Cunningham's interviews are incredibly engaging - she manages to at once explore each documentarians' creative process, AND discuss how these various filmmakers achieved their success, AND to discuss specific films in-depth AND to elicit the filmmakers' fascinating views on theoretical issues such as what constitutes "cinema ...

Mark Giambruno

New Riders Press, 2002

The best desision -- it's simple
The book "3D Graphics and Animation" is like some one way ticket to the world of 3D graphics. Since I've bought the russian version of it - my life has changed. Finally I desided to connect my future life with CG. Whether you are experienced graphist or you're beginner this book is for you. Here you can find all concepts of 3D modelling(polygonal-, spline-, patch-, NURBS-modelling, etc); ...
