Great Projects!
This book is a winner! I have 3 kids, ages 6, 10, and 12, and there's something in there for all of them. The projects are fun to do, and just the right level of difficulty. My kids have learned a lot about Egypt by building the projects as well as reading all of the intriguing information tucked into the book. I highly recommend this book!

A must have for the free spirited knitter
If you hate to buy patterns, if you rather do your own thing, if you just want to know how to figure out what to do with the yarn you bought at that yard sale but you have no pattern for it, than you need this book. This will teach you about sweater parts, how to figure out how many stitches you need with the yarn you have and the idea that is in your brain. This is an excellent reference book ...

Great Colonial America Projects You Can Build Yourself! (Build It Yourself series)

A great resource
This is a really great resource! I wish it had been in print when I was a teacher. Most books on colonial America tend to be a bit dry. This one is visually appealing, lively and would be very useful if your child had to do a report or was just interested in this time period. It covers all the usual things like who the colonists were, what they ate, wore, did for fun and so forth, but it also ...

Great!
First, if you're interested in simply sitting down and knitting a sock, this probably isn't the book for you. However, if you're ready to learn *how* to make a sock, measure your foot and fine-tune the fit, this book is not to be missed. Just about every technique is covered -- toe-up, cuff-down, etc. -- and the text is clear and easy to understand. I'm lovin' this book!
Spinning in the Old Way: How (and Why) To Make Your Own Yarn With A High-Whorl Handspindle

Best little book on high-whorl spinning
I have several books on hand-spinning and this is THE best. My only complaint is lack of photos but that would jack up the price and isn't really necessary. The illustrations do a good job as is. I learned to spin on a high-whorl spindle by buying one and doing the spinny thing with my fingers - this book shows how you get WAY more spin by spinning it (in the old way!) up or down your thigh. At ...
Playing the Game: Inside Athletic Recruiting in the Ivy League

A must read for all parents of high school athletes
A great learning tool for anyone connected with a high school athlete looking to play sports in college. Unfortunately, I read this too late to help. Just witnessed first hand a scenario whereby a "solid commitment" did not materialize at an Ivy - putting a student athlete in a very precarious spot. To the reviewer claiming that Lincoln was "creating a controversy and scandal that does not ...

Hands on History
We are homeschoolers using this book in part of a unit on Inventors. My eight year old is able to read and enjoy the history behind the different inventions. I thought it would just be a "how to" book, but we are both really enjoying the well written historical information in this book. It really makes Leonardo and the world he lived in come alive. I like to just browse through the book and look ...

A treasure-trove of information
This is a must-have book for knitting info collectors, full of wonderful factual data. The patterns & charts are fun and user friendly. I wish I'd had it in my knitting book collection years ago. I recommend it to all knitters regardless of their level of proficiency.

A great book
I've been knitting for 18 years, have read both Elizabeth Zimmerman and Priscilla Gibson-Roberts, not to mention Maggie Righetti and "The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns". I've done my own sweaters. So why, then am I so glad I picked up this book? And why will I happily buy her next volume in this series, which will introduce more sweater shapes and ethnic styles? Well, for starters, ...

Finnally a Useful Book on Manners
Thank You. Finally someone has written a useful as well as funny book on teaching (or trying to) your children good manners. The book offers excellent and practical advice on a host of issues that every parent confronts on a daily basis. The illustrations are hilarious, the writing is insightful, and was obviously written by someone who's been there, done that. Miss Manners for the new millenium
Maximum Sail Power: The Complete Guide to Sails, Sail Technology, and Performance

An excellent book on sail technology and trim
This book covers common sail materials and manufacturing techniques. It describes the advantages and disadvantages of each material. Advanced sail trim techniques are also covered. The single most useful and complete book on sail trim and sail materials I have come across. I do own many books on this subject and "Maximum Sail Power" is by far the best!

Brings History Alive for Kids
What a nifty book! Not only do kids learn about the inventions of the Greeks, but how those discoveries help us today. Kids learn about Greek gods, philosophy, architecture, science, math, medicine, art, and even about the start of the Olympics. The "words to know" (ie: Sparta and acropolis) and the quiz questions (ie: What were the three uses of olive oil in ancient Greece?) sprinkled throughout ...

The only book about sex--and relationships--any couple needs!
I just saw these two women, Cindy Pierce and Edie Thys Morgan, put on their book show--or whatever you want to call it, the presentation they give at bookstores to promote their book--at our local bookstore. They were amazing. Hysterical and completely real and wonderful. The book is just as good. Their mantra is "Better sex for the people"--by which they mean, the late-thirties/forties plus ...

A couple dozen CIvil War projects for young students to do in class
"Great Civil War Projects You Can Build Yourself" is a prime example of the supplemental books that are out there for teachers to get ideas for projects their students can do for a particular unit. Maxine Anderson provides a brief introduction to the Civil War that talks about how it all began and who were some of the important political and military leaders on both sides, but obviously a ...

Lots of fun
I had a lot of fun playing around with these projects and I'm way too old to be a kid. They're clearly described, simple to do, historically interesting, and they're just plain fun. A great way to get kids interested in the history of one of the world's most important countries, while still letting them make a mess and have fun. It's just the kind of book to pull out on a rainy Saturday.
