Nothing Else Comes Close
No matter what your view is on this particular aspect of the Titanic tragedy, you cannot help but be impressed by this book. This is, without question, one of the best-researched Titanic books ever written. If you happen to come across this rare gem don't hesitate to pick it up, because it's likely that you won't see it anywhere else!

WOW
If you are a ship expert, or just want to find a little information, this is for you. Braynard and Miller did a spectacular job! They wrote enough info. so you know and understand each ship, but aren't so detailed that the book bores the reader. This book is a must have for anyone interested in ocean liners.

A great book on the Superliner United States
This is an incrediable book about the adventures of not only the ship herself but also her designers, Gibbs and Cox and her birth place Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock. It does not end there though, it also goes into famous passengers and even the ships last master, Commodore Alexanderson (with a brief history of his maritime life, including his journeys on the SS United States & the SS ...

Great book...but seen it before...
I waited very anxiously for several months for this book to be published. I own several of Dr. Ballard's books and find them all fantastic. So when I opened this one, I was somewhat disappointed to find that this book is basically a re-packaging of one of his earlier, now out-of-print books, LOST LINERS, with the Bismarck and Guadalcanal added. Don't get me wrong...this is an absolutely ...

Available Again. Excellant.
One of the best books I have ever read or given to family/friends (I have bought 10+ copies since it was first published...too bad the original hard copy version is no longer available...mine is now in rough shape). My favorite climbing book of all time. Inspired. Be humbled with Child, then grab your gear... After this read, 'Deborah & Mountain of my Fear'.

Comprehensive in the Extreme
I must say this is the most comprehensive book on the Titanic I have yet seen. Every facet of the liner's history from its origins to the wreck exploration is covered. Each chapter includes pictures of everything connected to the ship. Anyone with any interest in Titanic at all should have a copy. I did think the authors could have done better with their chapter on the sinking itself ...

One of the great books on the storied history of the longbow
I read this book for a graduate course in medieval history. Robert Hardy's book Longbow A Social and Military History. This is the third edition printed in 1993. It is enlarged to include information on the archery equipment found on the archaeological dive from the ship, "The Mary Rose;" a warship from the Reign of the English King, Henry VIII. Besides being a famous British actor, Mr. Hardy ...

You're back in 1912 reading the headlines!! Wonderful!!
This book is great reading, informative and historical. Since the author uses the actual headlines and articles from the newspapers of 1912 you can't help but feel you are traveling through time. The accounts of survivors are heart wrenching and the survivors of those lost, even more so. The inquiries are most interesting and politics never change, do they? I love this book!

The Only Book to Read...
I had the pleasure of meeting John Maxtone-Graham aboard the SS Norway in 1985. He autographed a copy of "The Only Way to Cross" and I have read it at least 3 times. I'll never tire of his detailed accounts of the ships and the people that made that era. What I found really wonderful about the book was not only learning about the best parts of transatlantic travel but the worst as well. The ...

This is the only book that covers the Reliant 750/850
In the 50s and 60s we had the Coventry Climax 750cc race engine for cars. The present day equiv. is the Reliant 750/850. This book covers that engine completely and in depth.

Why is this book not easier to get??!!
This is the definitive book on the Gloster Meteor. Well written and full of details this is truly an excellent book. It covers all of the Marks and even includes the production codes for all of the Meteors built. Throw in that it is full of photos and color profiles of various Meteors and you just can't go wrong. If you are interested in this, one of the original jet fighters, you simply must ...

Jim Clark Remembered
Graham Gauld was a personal friend of Jim Clark, who was probably the second best race-car driver of all-time (only Mario Andretti was better in my opinion). Jim Clark won the 1965 Indianapolis 500 and the 1963 and 1965 Formula 1 World Championships while driving for Colin Chapman and the Lotus team. Jim is also the first driver to win the Indianapolis 500 with a rear-engine race car. I have ...

Book description
An amazing record of the smallest yacht ever to circumnavigate the world. Ex-Marine Commando, Shane Acton, set off from Cambridge in his 18 foot yacht 'Super Shrimp', bought second-hand for £400, little thinking that the next eight years would find him sailing around the world. During his hazardous 30,000 mile voyage he was shipwrecked, menaced by sharks, endured tempests, and even found buried ...

A goldmine of information for the Porsche fanatic.
For those restoring or merely researching Porsches through 1979 production models, this book contains a mountain of information. Data on serial, engine, and transmission numbers is included as well as minute details on model identification. Highly recommended for the Porsche owner, or wishful owner.

Exciting Tales of Daring Low-Level Shipping Attacks!
RAF strike wing Beaufighter and Mosquito crews flew some of the hairiest attacks of the war against German shipping in the North Sea. Their previously unheralded exploits were first told in this extremely well-written book by Roy Conyers Nesbit, himself a Beaufort veteran. Beginning in late 1942 Coastal Command Beaufighters from the North Coates Wing began striking German convoys. Sweeping ...

The Family Photo Album Of The Porsche Factory
Even though this book is a little expensive, it is one of my favorite books on Porsche. Weitmann lived just a short distance from the Porsche factory, and for years was the official photographer for Porsche. His photos, and those of several other photographers, make this the 'family photo album' of the Porsche factory. You may recognize many of these photos because they are some of the most ...

Great book, but for fans only.
If you've ever wanted to know everything there possibly is to know about the Porsche 911, then this book is for you! Others may find it to be monotonous and boring. The book goes into great detail about every aspect of each model year 911. Paul Frere is a 911 expert and it shows! I didn't like that most of the pictures are in black and white, although there is a nice little color photo section in ...

For years, the only one of its kind.
Until 1998, this was the only book to record in detail the organization, equipment, uniforms, flags and tactics of the various Renaissance armies. Especially valuable as the only reference on the Eastern European armies; Ottoman, Persian, Polish, Muscovite and Moghul, during this time period.
