Professional Dcom Programming27 reviews
Richard Grimes

Peer Information Inc., 1997

Professional DCOM programming
It is a great book for average COM programmer who wants to fully understand details of security, marshalling and multithreading in distrubuted environment. The author concisely explains these complex topics in lucid manner. The combination of theory and code samples is optimal. The book may not be good for beginners(who don't understand COM) or very advanced COM/DCOM programmers, But it is just ...

Professional Visual Basic 6 XML19 reviews
James G. Britt, Teun Duynstee

Peer Information Inc., 2000

Still a very usefull book
Although Microsoft has moved on to VB.net, many developers are still using VB6. It has become increasingly hard to find VB6 XML info on, say, MSDN, so a book like this is essential. The code examples are clear and practical. The book manages to work well both as a how-to and a reference. If I were to nitpick, there are two things would mention. First, because of when the book was published, it ...

Beginning XSLT12 reviews
Jeni Tennison

Peer Information Inc., 2002

Modest title for such a great book
Jeni calls it "Beginning" XSLT since she probably wanted to attract new-comers, but this book goes well beyond the intro stuff. I have 3 books on XLST, the others being good books, but this is by far the best. Real world examples, plenty of explanation for each. What else can I say. Buy this if you need to work with XML/XSLT.

Professional Java Mobile Programming3 reviews
Steve Atkinson, Rob Machin, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2001

Great coverage and good case studies
I found this book very useful for getting to grips with the wide range of technologies available for Java platform on mobile devices. It's strong point is the breadth of subjects covered and not the depth. However, if like me, you prefer to get on to a quick start and the get deeper into the subject on a "as needed" basis this book will provide it. It got me up to date and able to continue on my ...

Beginning Xml (Programmer to Programmer)52 reviews
Dave Gibbons, David Hunter, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2000

Great XML Reference Book.
Other than the fact that you can tell that the book was written by 5 different guys because of the the difference in writing styles between chapters, overall it is packed full of information and a handy reference.

Visual Basic .NET Text Manipulation Handbook: String Handling and Regular Expressions8 reviews
Paul Wilton, Craig McQueen, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2002

Gary Chamberlain
Wow! Quite impressed! I have been programming in VB, C and Java for years. This book is a concise explanation of strings with great history for perspective and detail about .NET implementation. This book reads very well and has great code examples. I suppose someone that doesn't know anything about programming shouldn't be trying to read a book about string encoding and regular ...

Professional Outlook 2000 Programming : With VBA, Office and CDO2 reviews
Ken Slovak, Chris Burnham

Peer Information Inc., 1999

Great book for Outlook 2000 development
I just recieved a copy of this title a couple of days ago and I thought I drop some lines here. It's a great book for those who want to learn more about Outlook forms, COM-addins, Outlook 2000 VBA and also how to access outside data within Outlook forms. It also covers useful hints that can't be accomplished with Outlook directly using other technologies like CDO etc.

Expert One on One Oracle77 reviews
Thomas Kyte

Peer Information Inc., 2001

Best $12 I ever spent!!!
I bought this book on cheap clearance after the original publisher went out of business -- the best $12 I ever invested. Remembering even 10% of this book makes you better than 90% of Oracle developers, modelers and architects. Mr. Kyte's real world experience and reliance on solid examples instead of folklore makes this light-years ahead of any other Oracle book; it's the only Oracle book I ...

Fast Track C#6 reviews
Julian Templeman, Jon Reid, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2002

Get up to speed with C# in a hurry
If you need to learn C# in a hurry, this is the book that will get you up to speed. The entire "Fast Track" series from Wrox were written to help you learn a subject fast and this is especially helpful if your employer decides to convert to C# or any other .Net technology or language. I purchased both Fast Track C# and Fast Track ASP.NET C# Edition together. I am impressed with both books. ...

Outlook 2000 VBA Programmers Reference5 reviews
Dwayne Gifford

Peer Information Inc., 1999

Get This Book
This is the best book I've seen on the subject. Very well organized and clear. If you're programming Outlook you need this book. Here's a tip. Use VBA whenever possible, rather than the VB Script available on the Outlook forms. The book shows you how to program for events such as the addition of a new item or changing an item. You can avoid VB Script programming on the forms this way.

Professional Linux Programming7 reviews
Neil Matthew and Richard Stones, Brad Clements, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2000

Good reference for a wide range of Open Source technologies
This book is a follow-up to Beginning Linux Programming, but with a wider range of authors. The book is a series of chapters on various tools and applications, all of them Open Source, based mainly round things that application developers might use, though there is a single chapter on device drivers. Most topics only get a single chapter, so there isn't as much depth as you would find in a ...

XML Application Development with MSXML 4.02 reviews
Danny Ayers, Stephen Mohr, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2001

Very readable and has good level of detail
The book is very readable; I read half the book in one sitting and found that the flow from one topic to the next was very natural. To start with this book covers pretty much all versions of MSXML, including older non standard features such as WD-xsl. Naturally there is more focus on the new standards, but examples and recommendations are given for all. One feature I very much appreciated was a ...

Instant HTML Programmer's Reference Html34 reviews
Alex Homer, Chris Ullman, ...

Peer Information Inc., 1997

Fantastic capsule HTML book!
Of course, this is dated already, but if you are doing plain vanilla HTML, this is the most perfect HTML guide I've come across, and I have many. Even 3 years after it was published, when I need to look something up, this is the book that comes off the shelf first, and usually the only book that needs t come off the shelf. Which is amazing, considering how small the thing is, too. It's not the ...

ASP.NET Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution C# Edition42 reviews
Marco Bellinaso, Kevin Hoffman

Peer Information Inc. Wrox, 2002

This book has got me writing a lot of code
This is definitely one of my favorite books. I've read it cover to cover and I'm constantly going back to use the examples as patterns for building web sites and modules. This is an excellent book for intermediate programmers. I read Beginning Visual C# first, and then skipped around through several ASP.NET books. I really can't say enough good things about this book. It's the best ...

Professional ADSI Programming- Active Directory Services Interface8 reviews
Simon Robinson

Peer Information Inc., 1999

Well done.
If you need to learn ADSI fast and to implement it fast and with a good understanding, You're in the right place. Mr. Robinson as usual by the way, is a fun writer simply take the advantage on that and don't waste your time in MSDN as i did. I said to myself OK that shouldn't be that complicated it is just an Interface to tree... Well it is just an interface but now i understand how it works. I ...

Beginning Access 97 Vba Programming (Beginning)55 reviews
Robert Smith, David Sussman

Peer Information Inc., 1997

A good programming course in VBA
There does not seem to be a good book on VBA written, but this book is the best of a bad lot. If you have no programming or computer science background at all, then this book would be considered an intermediate text and you may wish to try one of the SAMS learning series books instead. However, if you have any background in programming, this book will help you acquire the nuances of using ...

Visual Basic .NET Deployment Handbook3 reviews
Billy Hollis, Fabio Claudio Ferracchiati, ...

Peer Information Inc., 2002

Finally, some useful content!
If this book is a typical example of the new Wrox "Handbook" style books, then I look forward to seeing more of them. While this "Handbook" is considerable smaller (just under 300 pages) than many of the technical books I have purchased over the years, it is much more densely filled with useful content. By the time you've read the first 100 pages, the authors have walked you through the basics, ...

The Revolutionary Guide to Delphi 21 review
Ewan McNab, Robert Erik Swart, ...

Peer Information Inc., 1996

Not very detailed
Often confusing, and leaving important details for later, this book got confusing enough that I had to eventually put it down. It does assume that you do have some programming experience in another language and thusly does not go into the basic programming theories which programmers already know.
