Clara Barton and the American Red Cross
Clara Barton and the American Red Cross is a wonderful book, which tells about Clara Barton's life and about how she became the founder of the American Red Cross. Clara Barton's book explains how she cured the wounded soldiers that were in the Civil War. When Clara Barton was little her big brother fell, so Clara Barton was right by his ...

SHORT AND SWEET. ALTHOUGH THE STORY IS SHORT, THERE ARE OTHER THINGS IN THE PICTURES THAT I POINT OUT AND ENCOURAGE MY CHILD ABOUT. HE SEEMS TO REALLY TAKE INTEREST IN THE STORY. HE LIKES TO TURN THE PAGES TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

A Crime That This Book Is Out of Print!
This was my favorite book of fairy tales when I was little in the seventies, because the illustrations were just so amazing. Now that I have a daughter of my own I sought out a copy so that I'd be able to share it with her, too, and couldn't believe it had never been reprinted. I'm so glad Amazon saved the day with some used copies (my mom wanted one to replace her old copy, too, as we'd read ...

My son loves this book!
It was one of the first books I started reading to him when he was 2 months old. The music and motion caught his attention. Now he is 15 months old and still loves this book. He is learning how to turn the wheel in the pages himself. Worth every penny! But you can find them at a lot of Dollar General Stores so don't pay to much for it.

Great kids book, 3rd grade and up
This is a good book for kids (i.e. 3rd graders with good reading skills, up to 6-7 grades). My 9-year-old boy loved it, he couldn't put it down. We are white and it really helped him understand and empathize with what segregated America was like, and what a young black man had to go through to break baseball's "Color barrier". Great book for elementary school research papers. At 230 pages ...

My 9 mo old loves this
This book has been my 9-month-old's favorite for months now. She LOVES it. It's short and simple with a sing-song rhythm. It's commonly our last story before naps or bedtime. It starts with "Teddy Bear Teddy Bear, touch the ground. Teddy Bear Teddy Bear spin around." It ends with a "good night" ending. Illustrations keep her interested as well - she enjoys looking at this book as much as ...

A Delightful Read
This delightful novel has rekindled my desire to read or re-read the classics. I picked it up for no particular reason other than I had never read Hugo. I didn't expect much: My experience with the classics in high school and college was that they are dull and not worthy of modern reading. But, to my pleasant surprise, I discovered a fascinating book that is rich in wonderful characters and ...

The Elf Who Lived Next Door
ISBN 0866113339 - I'm always happy to add to my collection of Christmas books, especially when I find a story I haven't read a million times before. The Elf Who Lived Next Door by Bill and Susan Karnovsky fits in nicely. Melissa is sure that their neighbor, Mr Short, is an elf. Her brother, Joe, on the other hand, doesn't believe in elves - or Santa! When Mr Short has to leave town on ...

A Masterpiece
This is Dickens's best and it is on par with other great novels such as Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice, Madame Bovary, etc. In short, it is a masterpiece that brings together all of Dickens's writing skills with a great story. As background information, I am in the process of reading most of Dickens 22 novels and longer short stories. I bought the Penguin Popular Classics version of the ...

Wells blends Genre's with ease
I am sure that you have seen the movies that have been made from this book, there are quite a few and most of them are very entertaining. Unfortunately none of the movies that I have seen have captured the social meaning behind this book. Certainly they have the adventure part down pat, but the rest of it is changed, for the times I'm sure. I would advise those of you who love Sci-fi to read ...

Man can live without modern conviences
I like this book because Daniel Defoe can grasp your attention within the first two chapters. He had caught mine with Robinson Cruesoe's ways. Defoe makes his character stand out, and lets you see the relationships in which Cruesoe makes. You feel like you know what Cruesoe is like, after only a few chapters. The development of this book, and its characters is extraordinary. With Cruesoe, ...

I LoVe ThIs BoOk!
I got this book when I was a little girl, about the age of 3 or 4, and every night my Mom would read each chapter too me. I loved this story, and I'm also a fan of the movie. I'm 13 now, and I still read the book sometime's (by myself, lol). I can't wait to show this book to my kids when I'm an adult! :)

Beautiful and witty
This is a beautiful and witty tale about a depraved man. His ugly soul is mirrored by his ever-changing portrait while he retains his youthful visage. Suspenseful throughout. A classic.
