Patsy Scarry's Big Bedtime Storybook1 review
Patricia M. Scarry

Random House Childrens Books (Lib), 1980

Excellent Children's Storybook
This is an excellent storybook for children and parents too! Patsy Scarry uses animal characters to create stories about the fun and silly things children (and parents!) do. It is one of our family favorites. It makes you feel warm and giggly from head to toe!

Walt Disney's the Penguin That Hated the Cold (Disney's Wonderful World of Reading)14 reviews
Barbara Brenner

Random House Childrens Books, 1973

Pablo the Penguin
Surprisingly enough, this book is about a penguin named Pablo who hates the cold. One day Pablo decides that he has had enough of this cold weather. "It is silly to be chilly. I will go where I can be warm all the time." Pablo decides to try skiing farther north, but the stove strapped to his back causes more problems than Pablo expects. His next attempt to leave also fails, but by the third time ...

Charlie Brown's Super Book of Questions and Answers About All Kinds of Animals2 reviews
Charles M. Schulz

Random House Childrens Books, 1976

An incredible book to start a lifelong love of science
I received a copy of this book when I was 6 or 7 years old. I must have read it cover-to-cover 100 times. It started me off on a lifelong love of science and technology. 25 years, 2 M.I.T. degrees and 4 patents later, I'd say this book was among the best money anyone ever spent on me. Really sad to see that it's out of print. Grab one while you can!

Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators in the Secret of Skeleton Island1 review
Robert Arthur

Random House Childrens Books (Lib), 1966

Best in the series
Secret of Skeleton Island is a perfect example of classic Hitchcock. An awesome fictional work ...one of the best fiction books I've read even though it is mostly for younger readers.

Atlas of the Dragonlance World (Dragonlance Books)5 reviews
Karen Wynn Fonstad

Random House Childrens Books, 1987

Love it
This is a great book for any Dragonlance enthusiast. By some odd reason, I found two of them in the same used bookstore (after hunting everywhere for it for 3 years.) Well, so now I'm the lucky owner of two Atlas's which i don't mind, but still, why do I need two? But anyway, when reading the chronicles and the legends, this is one helpful book to have on hand (while reading the chronicles ...

The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast5 reviews
Alan Aldridge

Random House Childrens Books, 1980

Why is this book not available anymore???
This book made an enormous impression on me as a child. The pictures are magical, beautiful, and incredibly detailed. I often spent hours gazing longingly at the illustrations and dreaming I was a part of them, wading through frog's waterlogged house, drinking ale with the newts, playing cricket with the snails and butterflies, keeping out of the way of the hornet and the wasp, and generally ...

Donald Duck and the Magic Stick (Disney's Wonderful World of Reading)2 reviews

Random House Childrens Books, 1999

A very cute story
This book is one of many published by Disney in 1974, and in my opinion is one of the better ones. The story flows nicely, and does not exhibit any of the choppiness that some of Disney's other books from this era have. The story is also told well, and is told in a nice, simple, straightforward manner that appeals to me. The story itself is cute, and as there is no way I can improve on the plot ...

Good Luck Arizona Man.8 reviews
Rex Benedict

Random House Childrens Books, 1972

Be sure you've been to the bathroom before opening
This book is one of the funniest ever! Years ago, when I drove my latency-aged children across country, we had the book in the car, and to avoid sibling conflict on the long road trip, I had my daughter read it aloud. It's one of my most treasured memories. It has everything: Treasure, bad guys, good guys (Indians), clever kids who win the day. The publisher needs to get its head examined ...

The Summer Book6 reviews
Tove Jansson

Random House Childrens Books, 1975

A perfect book
The connection between grandmother and granddaughter is a marrow-deep one in "Summer Book." Sophia and her grandmother spend their days exploring, talking about life, nature, everything but their feelings about Sophia's mother's death and their love for one another. And yet, underneath the offhand, and often strange conversations that take place between them, you feel their affection and the ...

City of Gold and Other Stories from the Old Testament1 review
Peter Dickinson, Michael Foreman

Random House Childrens Books, 1980

Through Different Eyes
Peter Dickinson has written a wonderful little book which takes a look at over thirty Old Testament stories or characters as seen through different eyes. A particular favorite of mine is a Babylonian drill sergeant using the David and Goliath story to tell young recruits how do deal with the threats posed by a slingshot to an armored infantryman. All of the stories take a different viewpoint ...

The Blue Cat of Castle Town5 reviews
Catherine C. Coblentz

Random House Childrens Books, 1949

Old virtues made timeless
I read this book as a child and still love it at 60. The book speaks about what it means to be an authentic human being through a parable about a special kitten who must find his way in the world on his own and triumphs over loss, disappointment, and exploitation to find self-realization. "'Sing your own song,' said the River, 'sing well.'" It is never too late to sing your own song, if your ...
