The Steel Wave: A Novel of World War II (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 18 reviews Jeff Shaara
Random House Large Print, 2008
Amazing - from beginning to end One of the best books I've ever read. With such an accurate portrayal of D-Day and events surrounding it, Jeff Shaara has created a masterpiece. Familiar characters from 'The Rising Tide' return in an intricately woven storyline that takes the reader from the war rooms of Eisenhower to dinner with Hitler and Rommel, from the shores of Normandy to the German countryside. Events follow Eisenhower ...

Dreams from My Father (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 246 reviews Barack Obama
Random House Large Print, 2006
Worth Reading Whether You Support Obama or Not Don't let other people tell you what's in Obama's autobiography. Just read it yourself. You may be surprised.
Whether you agree with him or not, Barack Obama is worth getting to know. You may find, as I did, Obama is thoughtful, self-critical, and honest about his personal journey, which has not been an easy one. Not only that, he's a heck of a writer.
Instead of relying on other people's ...

Wisdom of Our Fathers: Lessons and Letters from Daughters and Sons (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 83 reviews Tim Russert
Random House Large Print, 2006
Buffalo Wings The coasts have had too much influence on America for the last 50 years, beginning with Rock & Roll, I suppose, and the cult of youth. There is much to be said for the heartland beginning with the unglamorous mid-west and the great rust-belt cities of Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, and the crown jewel, Chicago. Russert was all about being from Buffalo, a town joked about by those seeking ...

The Appeal (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 388 reviews John Grisham
Random House Large Print, 2008
Starts out so very slow This book starts out extremely slow. Really slow. So slow that I can't believe I even finished it. The first third of the book is boring. After that, it picks up speed and reminds me why I love Grisham's legal books.
I was hoping for a happy ending. Where the bad guys get theirs and the good guys win. A hope that someone changes their moral views. No such luck. In this sense the book is ...

Nothing to Lose (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 93 reviews Lee Child
Random House Large Print, 2008
Lee Child Novels Having just discovered novels by Lee Child, I have read only "Bad Luck and Trouble" and "Nothing to Lose". I thoroughly enjoy his writing. His writing is similar to David Baldacci and Dan Brown in that the plot is so smooth and rich. Child can get his point across without undue vulgarity. I will be searching for some of his previous novels and cannot wait for his next book.

Big Russ and Me (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 97 reviews Tim Russert
Random House Large Print, 2004
A blueprint for fatherhood This book should be required reading for all young men who eventually will become fathers. It's filled with wisdom and real-life examples of how to set the stage for success in raising a child.
It reads like a novel but in the end it's like an invauable user's manual for fatherhood.
I highly recommend it.

Compulsion: An Alex Delaware Novel (Jonathan Kellerman) 51 reviews Jonathan Kellerman
Random House Large Print, 2008
Compulsion Love Alex Delaware and this novel was classic Delaware. If you are a reader of the series then you will be glad that you read it! If you are new to the series start at the beginning of the series so that you can appreciate the characters more.
I would have liked to have seen more in depth character presentation. I didnt feel as connected to the characters as I have in previous novels. I did ...

Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 51 reviews Anne Rice
Random House Large Print, 2008
The Road to Cana The Road to Cana, a novel about the early life of Christ leading up to his public ministry was so compelling that I found it difficult to put down. The author who is evidently very knowledgeable about scripture and deeply committed to presenting Christ honestly, succeeds in helping us to experience Jesus in an intimate and deeply personal way. To write a novel in which Jesus speaks to us in the ...

The Downhill Lie: A Hacker's Return to a Ruinous Sport (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) 25 reviews Carl Hiaasen

Normal trials and tribulations of golf made funny Millions of golfers could play like Tiger Woods only if they had his golfing skills. And millions of golfers who play and score like Carl Hiassen could write a book like this if they had his wit and writing skills.
Chuckling about Hiassen's antics on the links reduced my tension and I think was a contributing factor to one of my best games ever (right after I finished reading the book). But I ...

The Collected Short Stories of Louis L'Amour: Selections From the Frontier Stories: Volume II (Louis L'Amour) 3 reviews Louis L'Amour

Better than ever I have been reading Louis L'Amour's novels most of my adult life. I only recently came across this volume (II) of short stories. I found the short stories even better than the full length books. They were action packed, with good plots and great characters. From hard working ranchers to flaming guns to horses with the endurance that you can count on in a crisis, this book delivers entertainment ...

Random House Large Print, 2008
Yes, this indeed Flemming This is indeed a perfect James Bond novel. It is as exactly the piece of bad writing we would have expected from Ian Fleming. Do you remember how bad these original novels were? I read them again a few years ago and was amazed about how shallow they were. Never-the-less, I love the James Bond legacy and this book fits the mold exactly. If you love Ian Fleming then read it. Don't expect great ...
