What a Great Idea!!
This book and CD set are the perfect combination for those who are new to the world of opera and not fluent in foreign language. Better than just a synopsis, the libretto in English lets you read every word so you won't miss the humor or pathos. As a homeschooling mom, I really appreciated this set as a teaching tool. I hope to increase my collection of The Black Dog Opera Library series.

What Can I Say?
What can I say about an opera score? It had the music reduced for piano and it had the lyrics. What more could you ask for? I bought this to study for my being cast in the chorus of the Hawaii Opera Theater production of "Carmen" next year. I got what I paid for. Again... what more can you ask?

I have come to find that amazon is an ideal place to buy opera scores. Nearly always priced below the list price and free shipping - where can you go wrong? I highly recommend Ricordi's cloth bound scores because they are Italian-only text, with no annoying English version texts added.

In my opinion, the most under-rated opera
This opera has all the marks of a good opera:
--exquisite chromatic harmony and counterpoint
--optimal pacing
--richness of melody and motifs
--variety of mood
In fact, I like it better than some of Puccini's better-known operas.
While you're at it, I also recommend the Scotto-Bergonzi recording.
