Manon Lescaut3 reviews
Puccini Giacomo

Ricordi, 1986

Mini-sized guide laden with maxi-helpful information
The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is just wonderful; it's like a "Cliff Note" of the opera, and extremely informative and educational. I particularly like the size; these guides are not cumbersome and fit right into my shirt pocket. The ladies will find sufficient room in their pocketbooks. The story narrative with the music examples is excellent. I prefer it to a libretto; indeed, it's ...

Don Giovanni: Vocal Score3 reviews

Ricordi, 1986

Yet another excellent Dover publication
Dover has done it again. This opera (one of the best ever written) is done up beautifully for everyone; from someone just looking into an opera for the first time to an experienced veteran. I would recommend it for all. As a bonus, it includes the Concert Ending of the Overture, the Transposition of the Aria No. 21b and the But in the Finale No. 24. The Editor's Commentary is also very ...

Il Signor Bruschino: Rossini (Gazzaniga) - Critical Edition - It/En6 reviews

Ricordi, 1998

A book to open up new doors & change your direction in music just the way it did for its author
Mandolinist Rich DelGrosso is a self-professed "blues freak." After first hearing the strong, expressive blues mandolin of Johnny Young, he began a journey to research and revive that type of music. Nominated by The Blues Foundation for a 2006 Best Instrumentalist Award, DelGrosso has put together a charming overview of music, history, lessons and photos. "From Memphis to Maxwell Street" is the ...

La Boheme [Sheet Music] (Italian Language)4 reviews

Ricordi, 2000

This book has caused me to fall in love with opera.
Having found opera intimidating I was looking for something to help me understand and appreciate the genre. This book exceeded all expectations. I intend to acquire the entire series.

Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville)7 reviews
Alberto Zedda

Ricordi, 1986

What a Great Idea!!
This book and CD set are the perfect combination for those who are new to the world of opera and not fluent in foreign language. Better than just a synopsis, the libretto in English lets you read every word so you won't miss the humor or pathos. As a homeschooling mom, I really appreciated this set as a teaching tool. I hope to increase my collection of The Black Dog Opera Library series.

Carmen: Vocal Score (Ricordi Opera Vocal Score Series)2 reviews

Ricordi, 2006

What Can I Say?
What can I say about an opera score? It had the music reduced for piano and it had the lyrics. What more could you ask for? I bought this to study for my being cast in the chorus of the Hawaii Opera Theater production of "Carmen" next year. I got what I paid for. Again... what more can you ask?

Puccini Arias for Soprano: Cantolopera Collection2 reviews

Ricordi, 2001

Everything one could ask for
Cantopolera's Puccini Arias for Soprano is an excellent book which provides everything you need, aspiring opera singer to amateur. The book includes a CD with all nine songs, first with someone singing, then with the full accomapaniments. The book has the written music for each song, a section where the lyrics are fully translated, and a short summary of each opera. And for anyone who was ...

First Lesson for Guitar - Volume 1: Guitar Technique2 reviews

Ricordi, 1992

Best guitar method available!
I started off with music lessons that only taught me to read tab, but I wanted to read music! My instructor started me with Arron Sherings method books and they were difficult to understand and generally were boreing. The Sageras method is easy to understand and has very nice pieces to practice and help the student to progress. Classical guitar is an excellent way to build a solid musical ...

The Best of Ludovico Einaudi: Piano Solo5 reviews

Ricordi, 2004

Beautiful music, accurately transcribed
Ludovico Einaudi is not (yet) well known in the United States, but he ought to be. He is my favorite composer, whose work falls in that nebulous genre variously called "neoclassical" or "new age." The music has a minimalistic flair (cf. Philip Glass), although Einaudi's work is much more melodic than Glass's. If you are not familiar with Einaudi's music, order his "Echoes" (greatest hits) CD as ...

Francesco Paolo Tosti - 30 Songs: High Voice1 review

Ricordi, 2002

Tosti Review-Cedarville University
Wonderful book! Tosti's music is brilliant. My first song of his was "A Vucchella" or "A Little Mouth". Definately worth using in your Italian Repetiore. (Music Student at Cedarville University)

Attila, Cloth, It: Vocal Score1 review

Ricordi, 1987

Amazon.com is perfect place for buying opera scores!
I have come to find that amazon is an ideal place to buy opera scores. Nearly always priced below the list price and free shipping - where can you go wrong? I highly recommend Ricordi's cloth bound scores because they are Italian-only text, with no annoying English version texts added. The scores arrive well packaged and in excellent condition - no bends or crushed corners. Amazon.com ...

Falstaff: Full Score1 review

Ricordi, 1986

Verdi isn't all that funny
Verdi's two Comedies philosophically, and emotionally, frame his long career. While writing Il Giorno di Regno, his first comedy, and only his second opera, the rather naive young Verdi lost his first wife and their children in a fire. Needless to say, the opera wasn't very funny, and the audience booed it off the stage. Verdi quit Opera...he thought for good. However, his self-imposed exile ...

Edgar: Vocal Score1 review

Ricordi, 1986

In my opinion, the most under-rated opera
This opera has all the marks of a good opera: --exquisite chromatic harmony and counterpoint --optimal pacing --richness of melody and motifs --variety of mood In fact, I like it better than some of Puccini's better-known operas. While you're at it, I also recommend the Scotto-Bergonzi recording.

36 Arie di Stile Antico: Low Voice1 review

Ricordi, 1999

Fabulous!
I love this book! Donaudy is a somewhat obscure, yet really awesome composer. Although he is technically a late Romantic/ early Contemporary composer his style is neo-Baroque. This book is appropriate for the advanced student/singer but also has some pieces that would suit a less experienced student. I am using three of the pieces in my senior recital. The only draw back is that all of the pieces ...

Favorite Italian Songs: Voice and Piano1 review

Ricordi, 1998

Wonderful Collection! (minus a few!!)
Since this is the first review of this item, and since there is not a complete index listing for it, I have included one at the end of this review. This is a wonderful and varied collection of Italian songs and arias. Several of the opera arias are transposed to slightly lower keys than they were originally composed in - for those of us who don't have a 'perfect high C'- which is one of my ...

Arias for Tenor (Cantolopera Collection, Vol. 2)1 review

Ricordi, 2002

fantastic
I bought one of the Cantolopera books to see what they are all about. Totally worth it for the recordings. They are of a real orchestra with real choruses singing. Tempos all seem right and very empasionately recorded for you to sing with. I ended up buying the Verdi, Mozart, Donizetti, Handal and this book. All are fantastic and great for a tenor to sing to. I would not buy these for the ...

Music is easy to read. I was able to follow, transpose, and play along with the recorded Puccini operas.

Arias for Mezzo-Soprano, Vol. 11 review

Ricordi, 2001

Thouroughly enjoyable!
After a few years off from singing, I so enjoyed starting up with this book. I was a voice music major & have grown up around music. It's so fun having an orchestral accompaniment. I appreciate first hearing a wonderful mezzo performing each song.
