Saves money big time
I went to Egypt in February 2006 with my wife and our two boys (5 and 2.5 years). Although we took a package tour to Hurghada, we actually overnighted there only three nights of the eleven we were in Egypt. The rest we spent moving around (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, busses, train, cruise ship, jeep). For the whole trip we spent around 1000 USD plus the package. We could have easily spent twice as ...

The best World Music's Guide released since today
Walk inside the universe of World Music is not easy. You have the feeling to moove in a jungle of names, titles and unknown instruments. A Guide is necessary to understand and help you for orientation. This book is good for primers and experts, speaking about generes, origins, musicians and their best records. From the 1994's first edition the new release is more rich and reflects the high ...
The Rough Guide to Cult Fiction (Rough Guides Reference Titles)

Excellent Place to Find Your New Favorite Novel
First, a word about the term cult fiction, and its implications. When I first saw the title of this little book, I assumed it would be full of strung-out wreckages like Burroughs and Dick. While the Rough Guide does contain them (as it should), its scope is far greater than writers of that type. In here you'll find a wind range of novelists reviewed, including Graham Greene, John Fowles, even ...

Always a great guide
This was the 3rd "Rough Guide" I've used, and in my opinion they are the best resources for travel to new countries. They not only cover the "standard" areas and sites in detail - including a good range of lodging and dining options - but also take you off the beaten track, exposing nice gems not covered in other books. If you like to really EXPLORE a country, rather than find the next good ...

You need this if you listen to country.
Love this book, just stumbled on it a few weeks ago, and can't put it down. I've been listening to country and loving it since I was a little girl, and this thing keeps turning me on to more music I want to go out and buy. Cool bio's on the artists and a great section on the seventies outlaw artists.
The Rough Guide to Scotland (3rd Edition)

A well-thumbed guide . . .
Circumstances permitted us only a one-week visit to Scotland, and this book helped us make every day full and enjoyable. It led us to out-of-the-way places we never would have found on our own. Its straightforward descriptions made it easy to choose among several options in any area that we traveled through. Thus we found Innerperfray Library with its librarian, Mr. Powell, and his ...

Best Guide for Independent Travel
We had purchased both LP and Rough Guide for our Egypt trip this past April (2005). I was reluctant to get RG for two reasons: 1. I generally think LP's are better and am used to their user-friendly format. 2. RG's most recent edition was published in early 2003 and with all the recent uncertainty in the area, I was nervous to rely on information from 2-3 years ago. However, for this trip, ...
The Rough Guide to Violin & Viola: The Essential Tipbook

Fabulous little book!
Books like these are treasures. I can't think of a single topic the author left out: the history, the major names, how the viola differs, how the violin works, how it's made (even how the trees are cut!)...and on and on. The pictures are skillfully drawn, too, though the prose hardly needs them. And yes, the prose! I'd say buy the book even if violins hold no interest to you. When you have ...

I love Rough Guide maps and the Venice map is no exception
I spent six days in Venice in April of 2006. After using the excellent Rough Guide map of Barcelona, I purchase Rough Guide maps when ever they are published for my destination. What I love about these maps is that they are complete, accurate and very tough. You can carry them around in your pocket, bend them and sweat on them and they still remain as usable as ever. You cannot get ...

Excellent guide book for New Orleans
If I had to bring just one guidebook on a visit to New Orleans this would be the one I would choose (out of the ones I have read). The guidebook included several helpful maps and some nice historical/background detail. It has a great section about visiting plantations along River Road to the west of the city. We rented a car and took a daytrip out along the River Road and found the info that was ...

While in Nepal last year I found this book to be exactly what I needed to get around as easily as possible. I usually use Lonely Planet Guides when traveling, but in this case - the Rough Guide is superior. Now if I can only get it back from my friend....

Like all Rough Guide maps, the Florence & Siena map is excellent
After using the excellent Rough Guide map of Barcelona, I purchase Rough Guide maps when ever they are published for my destination. What I love about these maps is that they are complete, accurate and very tough. You can carry them around in your pocket, bend them and sweat on them and they still remain as usable as ever. very useful and intersting
I travelled Corsica with a rented car. The book gave me almost all I needed - information about the atractions, historical background, cultural interesting articles, and tips about hotels etc... The tourist information offices know very little how to help tourists - with this book they are almost not needed.
The Rough Guide to House Music

An important book tracing the people, tunes and labels.
Finally, a book on house music capturing the pop sensibilities of the MTV generation, the historical coverage of the New York Times and the song significance of dance music magazines. With a cover graced by none other than Armand Van Helden, HOUSE: The Rough Guide breaks down this musical subgenre in small easily digestible doses. In keeping with the MTV mindset of short attention spans, ...

An inside guide for any outsider
On our recent trip through the grand circle of national parks in the four corners area, we carried several paperback guides, but quickly discarded the others in favor of this excellent book. We started reading it out loud as we approached each new town because of its wry observations, but quickly came to trust its preview of each new stop. We were never disappointed when we chose a non-chain ...

Fantastic Tome Ripe with Ideas
If you're looking for a reference book on travel ideas, look no further! This book is beyond excellent. I am currently researching for an extended round-the-world backpacking trip with my son. I spend a lot of time in bookstores taking notes. This book, however, was so full of excellent info that I actually bought it, despite my strict budget. It is one of the best travel investments I have ...

Indispensable if you are a foodie
This book is a must-have if you want to enjoy the hidden food-treats scattered all over London and beyond. Charles Campion's curry house choices are especially good. And don't get tempted into buying a used version. There appears to be significant turnover in the restaurants in London. So you are better off buying a new one.
The Rough Guide to Climate Change 1 (Rough Guide Reference)

Robert Henson

Excellent, but some rough spots.
Though small in size, this book is thorough and packed with the latest information about climate change. The margins are not overly generous. The typography is tight. The binding is excellent, with informative fold-out graphics on the front and back covers. A bargain price for such a well-edited, well-researched and well-constructed book. Although the book may be intended for the ...

Best Reference Book on Internet!
While taking a course on "Basic Internet" I was forced to buy another book that was really confusing. I found "The Internet - the Rough Guide 2000" at our bookstore and it has saved my life. The explanations and suggestions are much clearer than our text book and actually gave more information in a smaller size - really handy to keep by the computer or carry with you. I would definitely ...
