Fantastic resource!
This is a must have is you work with patients dealing with trauma. It provides an excellent summary of the most recent research and practical recommendations for ideal treatment programs. I used this as a resource in designing my own treatment programs in working with patients dealing with combat stress.

Eminently useful book
This is an eminently useful book for the many professionals embarked on civic improvement who also want to consult the larger comuinity. Readers might range from urban design teachers and professionals to public policy groups and planning commissions to downtown chambers of commerce, tourist commissions, and real estate groups. The book not only shows how to solicit information about citizen ...
Handbook of Qualitative Research

It never leaves my desk
While it seems like a large chunk of change, this book is worth every penny. Ever since I've purchased it, many of my colleagues (I'm a social scientist at KU) ask to borrow it, but I never let it go. Just about any question I have about qualitative research can be answered, to some degree, with this book. What's more, even in some of the more controversial areas of qualitative research the ...

good resource
I was taught that fear appeals didn't work but we used them anyways in our state health department work. This book explains what we instinctively knew -- that fear appeals work and they work well given the right conditions. I like the theory in the book and the worksheets.
Qualitative Research Design: An Interactive Approach

Maxwell provides roadmap
Having acquired a veritable library of qualitative methods books and journal articles, I still felt like I was floundering. This book gave me not only a new and more valuable way of thinking about what I was doing, but a step-by-step action guide, practical, practicable, and with a depth (both explicated and in specific references) that makes me much more confident about eventual orals. Short ...

Most intuitive book on the subject
This book is especially useful to start understanding topics like ordered probit, multinomial logit, negative binomial regression and zero-inflated count models. Although it starts with a chapter on the linear regression model, it should not be mistaken for an introductory text. I would certainly advise readers with limited background in regression models to start with other books, like the one ...

Optimized database marketing training
Having read many books on database marketing, direct marketing, data mining & CRM as a consultant, I appreciate the story line approach heading up each chapter most. Many books fall prone to teaching "at you" rather than guiding the user along "through the experience of doing it". A second critical factor to look for - once you've gotten through all the introductory books - is finding concrete ...
The Nature of Leadership

Sage Publications, Inc, 2004
No pain, no gain--go for the straight and narrow!
The reviewer that refers to this book as being "painful" is partly right. This book is difficult to read, that's for sure. However, leadership, as a topic is not simple. There are no quick fixes. To learn about leadership you will have to read a lot, particularly what the researchers have written. The topic is not simple and certainly cannot be summarized in simple graphs or charts. You'll need ...

Superb new view of international development
For years now, I have been picking up every book that professes to have a new insight into the times in which we are living. With each new search punctuated by disgust and despair, I find nothing but another silent testament supporting some version of 'The End of History' theory. There are no new ideas, no new ideologies, and all of wo/man's sometimes glorious, sometimes utopian aspirations ...

Fabulous introduction to different forms of ANOVA
During my years in graduate school, I've noticed a general lack of familiarity in graduate students, from engineering or from biological backgrounds, in statistical techniques. I also often read papers (usually in the medical science journals) that demonstrate variable levels of statistical understanding. After reading many book chapters, MATLAB materials and web pages, I found this book to be ...

Fabulous primer on handling missing data
As usual, Paul Allison has produced an accessible and practical treatment of conceptual and methodological issues that commonly confound social scientists. His discussion of the meaning, effects, and remedies for missing data is thorough and clear. In particular, the section on multiple imputation is extremely well-done. This is a reference work that will improve the scholarship of even the ...

A wonderful resource and support for women physicians.
Having recently graduated residency with two young children, I couldn't stop reading this book. I want to plaster these essays on the cover of the Wall Street Journal: this is why medical training has to change! I am buying this book for all of my friends.

Must buy together with Yin's "Case Study Research"
This book is a real good complement to the classic "Case Study Research" from the same author. Some of the concepts of the other book were not aboslutely clear (although the book is very good), but I was really able to understand fully after reading this one. Don't buy one without the other!!! These two books have everything you really need to know about case studies. Good luck!!

This is an author review by Sherry Devereaux Ferguson.
The nature of the communicator's job has shifted dramatically in the last decade. While communicators still prepare speeches, press releases, and articles for corporate magazines, they are now being asked to perform managerial duties, including planning, consulting with stakeholders, and advising CEOs and vice presidents. With these additional responsibilities as a focus, Communication ...

If you use statistics in your daily work, but are not a statistician and are always meaning to read or reread your statistics book from that one course you took or the new statistics book you ordered, but you fall asleep a couple of pages into the first chapter, then this book is for you. Finally a great book for gamblers.
We use this book for all of our patients. They love the exercises and take them home and go over them again and again. This keeps them thinking about recovery. The book leaves no stone unturned. It has everything a problem gambler needs to stay in recovery.
