Science Is...: A source book of fascinating facts, projects and activities6 reviews
Susan V. Bosak

Scholastic Canada, 2000

Leagues above most activity books
I am so glad to discover this book is still available. It's far more comprehensive and intelligent than so many other activity books. Laid out clearly, with activities in various realms of knowledge that offer numerous variations so a parent could conceivably use this one book throughout a child's school years. I can't imagine a child not discovering the joys of science (broadly defined) ...

More Pies!4 reviews
Robert Munsch

Scholastic Canada, Limited, 2002

Another winner from Munsch/Martchenko
Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko are a winning team in childrens' books, and this is another one of their terrific partnerships. Munsch's well-paced tales coupled with Martchenko's vivid and funny artwork encourage preschoolers and young grade schoolers to reread their books many times over. This book features a very hungry little boy, his exasperated mom, and a pie-eating contest. My kids ...

The Tin Princess37 reviews
Philip Pullman

Scholastic Canada, Limited, 2005

"There's Three Men I Might Have Loved..."
"The Tin Princess" is the forth book in the Sally Lockhart series - though it doesn't actually star Sally herself. Perhaps a better description of this book would be to call it a spin-off, as it is has several characters from the previous Sally books as its protagonists, and solves a mystery that has been brewing since book one. In the first book "The Ruby in the Smoke," a young street waif named ...

Smelly Socks8 reviews
Robert Munsch

Scholastic Canada, Limited, 2004

Loved Smelly Socks
My family has always loved Robert Munsch's book " I Have to Go". My 4yr old liked to read it so much he brought it into the bath with him. Needless to say we had to replace it and that is when I saw all the other stories that Robert has. I bought several of his books and I have to say that "Smelly Socks" is one of our favorites. I think my son asked me to read it everynight for 1 week straight!!!!

The saddening story of young Susanna Meritt.

A war is whispering around her, and soon troops of Canadians are leaving Canada to fight America, determined to end their war of 'who owns Canada' once and for all. The Keys to the Kingdom: Mister Monday108 reviews
Garth Nix

Scholastic Canada, Limited, 2003

a fresh new look at children's fantasy
I have always had a particular interest in children/teen fantasy. I normally am an adult fantasy reader, but sometimes it is nice to read a book that isn't trying to play off like the real world. This book is such a clever, compelling read that I was sorely disappointed to have to wait for more. I have never (so far) read a Garth Nix book that doesn't re-inspire me to read more books. ...

Book Review on The 6th Grade Nickname Game

An Ocean Apart: The Gold Mountain Diary of Chin Mei-Ling (Dear Canada)3 reviews
Gillian Chan

Scholastic Canada, 2004

An Ocean Apart.
One of the best books in the Dear Canada series. I have read many Dear Canada books, and though not my favorite (quite close, though) this is just a wonderful book to read. It's realistic and easy to read and enjoy. It gives you a look at what it was actually like to live at that place and time, and it almost seemed as if you were there, as if you could picture those places in your mind. A must ...

Very Funny
My 20 month old daughter loves it. I'm not sure that she connects it to her 2 month old brother, but she sure enjoys having us read it to her. She pulls it out again and again and screams along!

Boo!7 reviews
Robert Munsch

Scholastic Canada, Limited, 2004

Great Halloween Book
I donate this book to my mom's day care where they already have lots of Robert Munsch even an authographed one(Get Out Of Bed). The kids really enjoyed all the candy the little boy got from scary people, especially the the police officer and the teenager. They all want enough candy to last theme a year.

With Nothing But Our Courage: The Loyalist Diary of Mary MacDonald (Dear Canada)5 reviews
Karleen Bradford

Scholastic Canada, 2002

A Different View
For those of us down in the States who were raised on one view of the American Revolution, this is a great way to introduce "the rest of the story". As a homeschool Mom, I've been trying to help my children understand the many differnt viewpoints of the war, and this book was an eye opener for my 11 year old. She read it in one sitting and came away with a deeper appreciation of what all the ...

Born to Rock12 reviews
Gordon Korman

Scholastic Canada, 2006

This is a great book!
"I'd always blamed my McMurphy DNA for every weird urge and character flaw, but that was just neurotic. Never did I seriously believe that I'd turn out to be so spectacularly right! I mean, a dad in the entertainment industry would have been kind of cool, but this was more like terrorism than show business. The blood of a notorious lowlife flowed through my veins. I was Prince Maggot." Leo ...

Jake, Reinvented22 reviews
Gordon Korman

Scholastic Canada, 2005

The Best Book
Jake, Reinvented is "the best" book because of the characters. If there was no characters the book would not have a point. The whole book is based on the characters. Now I will tell you about the book itself. The book is about a boy who moved to a different school. The boy becomes popular in his new school instead of the geek he used to be in his old school. He throws partys every friday night to ...
