Mission Accomplished! Or How We Won the War in Iraq: The Experts Speak 6 reviews Christopher Cerf, Victor S. Navasky
Simon & Schuster, 2008
Blistering Compendium of Spin Out of Control on the Iraqi War As our burgeoning economic woes overshadow the war in Iraq in the minds of prospective voters, the imperial hubris that has been the mainstay of the Bush administration's rhetoric seems to get less airplay these days. Even though people continue to die, the cable networks apparently feel that their viewers have grown tired of the war. That's why there is great value in picking up this piercing ...

Einstein: His Life and Universe 183 reviews Walter Isaacson
Simon & Schuster, 2008
Universe Man Walter Isaacson's biography of Time's "Person of the 20th Century", Albert Einstein, welcomes us to the world of one of history's most famous scientists. So well known that his name is nearly a common noun synonym for genius, but still misunderstood on many fronts, Einstein emerges much more intact than most famous people subjected to a biography of this length. He wasn't a great father for most ...

John Adams 713 reviews David McCullough
Simon & Schuster, 2008
McCullough wants to take you there ... and he does. Wonderful picture of the times and the man. McCullough gives us a fascinating picture of a great man with public and private flaws (the Alien and Sedition Acts were wrong, and his relationship with his second son Charles could have been repaired if he was more compassionate). He also shows us the tumultuous times in which he lived and the people in his orbit (you rock, Abigail). Although I ...

A Remarkable Mother 6 reviews Jimmy Carter
Simon & Schuster, 2008
A true heroine I read this wonderful book with great enjoyment. President Carter does a great job making this bio entertaining as well as inspiring. Lillian was not a saint but a very outspoken "live life to the fullest" woman.
I was impressed by her respectful treatment of African Americans and the great example she was to her son. She was a great help in meeting foreign dignitaries etc. A great read!

Jim Cramer's Stay Mad for Life: Get Rich, Stay Rich (Make Your Kids Even Richer) 43 reviews James J. Cramer
Simon & Schuster, 2007
His Best Book Yet At last, Jim Cramer has written a book for real people. The other ones were useful, but this one finally addresses the issues that affect retired investors, non-millionaires and others who are not out simply to make a fast buck off the market. I recommend this highly to anyone seeking some good basic advice with the Cramer touch.

Growing Up Green: Baby and Child Care: Volume 2 in the Bestselling Green This! Series (Green This!) 7 reviews Deirdre Imus
Simon & Schuster, 2008
Wake up and smell the toxins What a breath of fresh air! If you're like me, you're always trying to raise your child well, but never really sure you're doing everything you can. In many ways, this book is a light down that dark path of parenting, as it's filled with ideas on how to give your kids a safe and healthy life. Even if you are not pregnant yet, there's worthy advice. For example, one early chapter points out that ...

Where Are You Now?: A Novel 32 reviews Mary Higgins Clark
Simon & Schuster, 2008
Superbly Plotted, Deftly Characterized Missing-Person Mystery Don't miss this book!
Mary Higgins Clark fans will be delighted with this nicely told mystery, one of her very best. Families provide lots of drama for most people, and Ms. Clark wisely chooses to add family complications to increase the flavor of this excellent story.
What would you think of your only brother disappeared just before finishing college . . . except to make a brief phone call ...

The Post-American World 9 reviews
Simon & Schuster Audio, 2008
America Must Realize the World is Catching Up One of the biggest problems we have as Americans is the inability to realize that many of our former industries are now the equivalent of blacksmiths --- they are becoming overshadowed by new technologies and inventions from other countries. This isn't bad if we allow new ways of doing things to dominate our economic life but instead we attempt to save the old at the expense of the new.

Simon & Schuster, 2007
can't wait for it in paperback having grown up in an evangelical home with a father who thought the bible was the only book, i loved this "other" book. i have a sister who is a pastor's wife, a sister who is an "angry agnostic", a best friend who has discovered the messianic jews, and lots of confused friends. this book speaks to them all with out offending any. in fact, it made them all smile if not actually laugh out loud. ...

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea 7 reviews
Simon & Schuster Audio, 2008
One of the funniest people in America I actually bought this book for my wife, since she had enjoyed Chelsea Handler's previous book, "My Horizontal Life." When the book arrived yesterday, I picked it up to peruse it and I couldn't put it down. This book is laugh-out-loud funny. The book contains stories from the author's life from around the age of 9 through adulthood that are funny from the perspective of men and women alike. ...

Catch-22: A Novel (Simon & Schuster Classics) 817 reviews Joseph Heller
Simon & Schuster, 1999
Still Crazy After All These Years Catch 22 is simply one of the best books ever written. It describes the world as it really is, and does it in a way that will stick with you for a very long time. You will have fun with the many characters and find them surrounding you in a very real sense in your day to day life. Even the dark tragedy of war becomes bearable as described through the comedic voice of the author.

Fahrenheit 451: A Novel 1242 reviews Ray Bradbury
Simon & Schuster, 2003
still relevant today I chose to read Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" for a High School Book Report. I thought that fact so many of the ideas portrayed in the book by Bradbury are still very relevant today was fascinating. The book was published in the 1950's and Bradbury's ideas about the influence of other types of media and their effect on society are evident today. Society as a whole has had its general thought ...

White House Ghosts: Presidents and Their Speechwriters 3 reviews Robert Schlesinger

Excellent presidential history This is an insightful, detailed and well balanced history of the relationships between American presidents and the people who write their speeches.
