Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2005

Charming, fun book!
My daughter loves this book (22 months old) and my husband and I enjoy the sing-song rhyme as well. It has a nice rhythm for reading aloud. We don't mind reading it over and over! The illustrations are great also.

Specials (Uglies Quartet)87 reviews
Scott Westerfeld

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2006

This is an absoloute must-have
I will begin by saying simply: this book took me by surprise, and I mean that in a very good way. The two books before it had been very good, yes, and I was expecting relatively the same quality out of this one. However, after I had finished the first few chapters, I knew that this book was (and ths might sound cheesy) different; and I'm quite serious about that. It literally took me by ...

Frindle342 reviews
Andrew Clements

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2002

A story to warm the heart of very child with a curious and rebellious streak
This book should be a classic, it demonstrates how a child can rebel against his teachers and yet do it in a positive way. Nick Allen is a bit of a troublemaker in school; he has many "good" ideas and is always trying them out. He reaches fifth grade, and the only language arts teacher is the elderly Mrs. Granger. When one of his ideas goes astray, Nick is required to develop a presentation to ...

The Homework Machine13 reviews
Dan Gutman

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2006

teacher of grades 4-5
Kids in grades 4-5 will love this book! It is a bit too easy for middle school kids, but a fun read none the less. It is written unlike most other chapter books. It is written more like an interview conducted with each character as the school year progresses and problems arise with Belch. This book can teach valuable lessons on ethics and morals. This is a definite read for my students this year. ...

Rebel Angels115 reviews
Libba Bray

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2007

Impressive
I enjoyed this book. It was a bit longer than I expected (550 pages seems like a lot for a young adult read); however, the writing was simple and easy to follow, so it didn't become tedious. The plot was very nicely designed. I enjoyed the first book as well, but this one was even better. This book is a worthy addition to the Gemma Doyle saga.

A Great and Terrible Beauty294 reviews
Libba Bray

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2005

Funny and Smart
This was a very, very enjoyable book and I look forward to the sequels. Though this is set in the Victorian era (nice change for once) the subject of finding one's place in life, finding happiness, finding good qualities in those around us and compassion was refreshing. The characters were funny, smart and brave and they didn't compromise themselves during the process. Highly recommend!

Mouse's First Day of School1 review
Lauren Thompson

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2003

My son's favorite book of all time!
My son Ben, who is about to go into 2nd grade, calls this his favorite book of all time. He is especially fond of the illustrations - and we have even decided that we should frame the dustcover! That is a pretty ringing endorsement from a 7 year old! We plan to buy all of the books in the "Mouse" series over the next year. Perhaps we will buy them in order of seasons/holidays.

Kitten's First Full Moon61 reviews
Kevin Henkes

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2006

A Simple, Crazy Stroll and Adventure With the Kitten
I think in most cases color more than likely fits the bill to get the attention of kids. But in this case, simple black and white illustrations do so well as far as a night story involving a little kitten. Kevin Henkes does a great job throughout the whole thing. Plus it kept my daughter's attention the whole way through, and that's what I'm always looking for. The story is quite simple. It is ...

Sandra Boynton

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2004

Love this book!
Our 9 month old loved it when he was just 6 months. I think that just about says how wonderful this book is. And the ending gives a perfect cue for the little ones to voice their opinion!

The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles)138 reviews
Holly Black

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2003

An excellent series for the little ones.
Finally a series of books that is fun, positive and cute as a gnome's nose! Set in an old Victorian home, the three Grace children must cope with the absence of their father, the strains of moving and a very peculiar housemate. The Grace household is believable and the sibling rivalry and arguments are as real as any I have had with my own brothers and sisters. Beneath all the realism lurks a ...

But Not the Hippopotamus74 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 1939

Fun, along with encouragement
In the spirit of Boynton books, this one lives up to her very good works. We enjoy them just for the fun of reading them... any lesson or encouragement that comes out of them is a plus.

Kira Kira159 reviews
Cynthia Kadohata

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2005

Wonderful heartfelt story
I realize that this book is written for a younger audience but I felt compelled to read it since my 11 year old niece urged me to do so. Being 1/2 Japanese I take a keen interest in stories that pertain to my own heritage. Also, my youngest daughter is actually named "Kira" so that also made it more intriguing. I was surprised at how easily I was transported back in time and was able to ...

Eloise112 reviews
Kay Thompson

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2000

Mother of Two
I would think someone who would be offended by the style in which "Eloise" is written would be "smart" enough to know that the expression is "for all intents and purposes" and not "intensive purposes."

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2005

Read this book!
What can I say? I've read all the Pendragon books and I love them all. But this book is my favorite. I love Saangi's cocky attitude and Loor's jokes. To me there is no competition, this is my favorite book.

Amelia's Notebook22 reviews

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2006

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AMELIA BOOK!
This is my all time favorite Amelia book. I especially like her doodles of cafeteria food in her new school and her dumb sister Chloe and her nice friend, Nadia. This is the best book. I've read it again and again. I recommend it to anyone who likes to laugh. Some other diarys which are good are THE DIARY OF A SLAVE GIRL, RUBY JO, THE DIARY OF PATIENCE WHIPPLE, and one boy diary called THE ...

Doggies67 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Simon & Schuster Childrens Books, 2001

Great book!
I love this book. It could probably be argued that there is some educational value with the counting of dogs, but my child loves it because each dog barks different and he likes to bark along with them. It's really a brilliant book.
