P is for Passport: A World Alphabet Edition 1. (Discover the World) 3 reviews Devin Scillian
Sleeping Bear Press, 2003
A Wonderful Classroom Tool! I recently purchased "P is for Passport" and I loved it. This is a superb book and I would strongly recommend it for any grade level of teacher. I used it to help a presentation over world languages for a summer day camp. The kids ranged from K-6. They all loved it. The kindergarteners could go along with the alphabet and the sixth graders could relate it to their world geography studies.

Z Is For Zamboni: A Hockey Alphabet Edition 1. (Sleeping Bear Press Sports) 25 reviews Matt Napier
Sleeping Bear Press, 2002
one year old knows the sport thanks to this book I bought this book for my husband to read to our [..] son. It's been a year since we've been reading it and now whenever we get the book out, Ben has to run and get his mini "zamboni tractor" and mini hockey stick that we bought him separately. He holds them tight and at each page he points and repeats hockey terminology. Even when we're not reading the book, the terms stick with him. At about ...

A Wish to Be a Christmas Tree 18 reviews Colleen Monroe
Sleeping Bear Press, 2000
A Wish to Be a Christmas Tree My daughter brought this book home from her school library and both my husband and I were touched by this book so much that we ordered a copy for our family. This a great book for teaching the true meaning of friendship to all ages. I would recommend this book for anyone who works with children. It will be a tradition in our house for a long no matter what the season.

Triple Threat! Amazing illustrations...great poetry...interesting facts. You'll find all three in this alphabet book about Michigan. Great to read aloud and great to read alone (again and again)....I highly recommend this book (and future books in the series) to all elementary school teachers. My second graders hurried to grab this book after I read it aloud. Unique and such a high-quality book! BUY IT!

Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot 9 reviews Margot Theis Raven
Sleeping Bear Press, 2002
Beautiful and moving A lovely story of a little-known episode in post-World War II Europe, the Berlin Airlift, and the American pilot who knew that for children, chocolates and sweets were almost more important than the basic supplies the Airlift was providing the citizens of West Berlin, so he sent those along with the rest of his cargo, and in doing so, gave them hope.
Margot Theis Raven movingly depicts an ...

My Teacher Likes to Say Edition 1. (Likes to Say) 2 reviews Denise Brennan-Nelson
Sleeping Bear Press, 2004
My Teacher Likes to Say This book was very enjoyable to read to my special needs students. It was a fun way to look at language and meaning. We all had a few laughs. The illustrator did a wonderful job depicting the literal meaning of the phrases. My students also enjoyed drawing their favorite phrases. I highly recommend this book.

A is for America 7 reviews Devin Scillian, Pam Carroll
Sleeping Bear Press, 2001
T - A Treasure Trove of Trivia, for Tykes and (pre)-Teens I really like this book. It's been in my 5-year-old's collection for about 2 years now, and it still get pulled down and read every few weeks. Devin Scillian has done a fantastic job of using events and facts from just about every imaginable facet of American life, both well-known and obscure. For example, the book mentions the YMCA, Harriet Tubman, "The Twilight Zone", Kellogg's Rice Krispies, ...

G is for Golden: A California Alphabet 2 reviews David Domeniconi
Sleeping Bear Press, 2002
New to the State of California? Being recent transplants to California, my husband and I have been checking out all the nooks and crannies that make California unique. With the printing of this book, we are reminded there is so much more to see and to learn. From Alcatraz to Yosemite, there are adventures abounding. The illustrations for this book are beautiful, and invite you to be a part of goldmining or the California ...

Buzzy the Bumblebee - (Softcover) 10 reviews Denise Brennan-Nelson
Sleeping Bear Press, 2003
Terrific moral with beautiful pictures My son got this book as a gift for his 1st birthday (and signed by the author!). We read this book once or twice a week. My 18 month old loves it and he points out Buzzy on every page. I like it because it also uses "big" words in a way that you don't normally see in children's literature (words like frustration, envious, and destination). The illustrations are beautiful - the colors are very ...

H is for Home Run: A Baseball Alphabet Edition 1. (Sleeping Bear Press Sports) 4 reviews Brad Herzog
Sleeping Bear Press, 2004
The baseball alphabet from A for all-stars to Z for zeroes Writer Brad Herzog and illustrator Melanie Rose, who brought you "K is for Kick: A Soccer Alphabet," now bring you "H is for Home Run: A Baseball Alphabet." This is not a simple alphabet book, by which I mean that they do more than say "A is for the all-stars." The accompanying text points out that A also stands for Abner Doubleday (who had nothing to do with the invention of baseball), Alexander ...

A is for Aloha: A Hawai'i Alphabet Edition 1. (Discover America State By State. Alphabet Series) 2 reviews U'ilani Goldsberry
Sleeping Bear Press, 2005
A is for Aloha... good for all ages What a great book! This one, written by U'Ilani Goldsberry and illustrated by Tammy Yee, is a nice addition to the Discover America State By State series. The alphabet is focused on Hawaiiana, of course. There are details of the alphabetized words ("A is for aloha") that make it appropriate for all ages, and I found them quite interesting.
There were a few things that irritated me. ...

Number 1 Teacher: A School Counting Book (Sleeping Bear Counts!) 1 review Steven L. Layne, Deborah Dover Layne
Sleeping Bear Press, 2008
The perfect counting book for unusually bright, gifted, or numerically inclined children Written by professional educators Steven L. Layne and Deborah Dover Layne, Number 1 Teacher: A School Counting Book is more than just a counting picturebook. Each number (1-20 followed by 30, 40, 50... up to 100) is accompanied by a simple rhyming verse for read-aloud fun, and a much more in-depth passage about that number's use in math or education. For example, part of the entry for the number ...

D Is for Democracy: A Citizen's Alphabet (Sbp-Alphabet) 1 review Elissa Grodin
Sleeping Bear Press, 2007
A picturebook worthy of the highest recommendation Clearly written by Elissa Grodin and distinctively illustrated by Victor Juhasz, D Is For Democracy is not an ordinary alphabet book. Each letter is associated with a word or concept associated with democratic government, such as J is for Judicial branch, and a simple poem (J is for Judicial branch - / For justice, judge, and jury. / Those who do not break the law / never have to worry) - but in ...

K Is for Kick: A Soccer Alphabet (Sbp-Alphabet) 3 reviews Brad Herzog
Sleeping Bear Press, 2007
An alphabet book for fans of soccer, both young and old I have to think the idea reader for "K is for Kick: A Soccer Alphabet" is going to be the parent who is having trouble waiting for their kid to be old enough to go out on the soccer field and kick the ball around, let along trying to help the kid learn to read. Author Brad Herzog admittedly creates a two-tier format that has one part targeted on young readers learning the alphabet and the other ...
