Days on the Road: Crossing the Plains in 1865: The Diary of Sarah Raymond Herndon 4 reviews Sarah Raymond Herndon
TwoDot, 2003
Absolutely wonderful! I found this diary charming and informative. Having always had a fascination with the time period and wagon trains, I couldn't put this book down. By the end of the book, I was saddened by the fact that Sarah didn't continue recording her life in Montana. I felt as if I had known her personally and was touched by the whole accounting of her travels.

Big Sky Journal: The New Montana Cabin: Contemporary Approaches to the Traditional Western Retreat Seabring Davis
TwoDot, 2008
The traditional dream cabin meets the twenty-first century. There is a new style of architectural design emerging in the West, one that taps the spirit of history even while keeping an eye toward the future. It?s an aesthetic that integrates a homestead heritage with sustainable living, luxury with logic, pleasure with pragmatism. The ideas might be applied to a historic train depot that is converted to an urban-inspired living space, a ...

Tales Behind the Tombstones: The Deaths and Burials of the Old West's Most Nefarious Outlaws, Notorious ... 3 reviews Chris Enss
TwoDot, 2007
Awesome Old West Tales I just recieved this book as a gift, and once I started reading it I just could not put it down. The book is full of facinating stories that while factual are still entertaining. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in The Old West. PS this would make a great "bathroom book" as each chapter is a seperate story, if you can stop after just one!

Outlasting the Trail: The Story of a Woman's Journey West 1 review Mary Barmeyer O'Brien
TwoDot, 2005
Outlasting the Trail Outlasting the Trail: The Story of a Woman's Journey West Excellent. So real that I felt like I was right there watching Mary and her family during each crisis and each small joy. Including and using Mary Rockwood Powers' own letters for this story created the sense of being there with Mary and her family. The story tells of what is required of Mary and the choices she must make to keep her ...

It Happened in Wisconsin (It Happened in) 4 reviews Michael Bie
TwoDot, 2007
Review: "A book as entertaining as any fiction" From Capital Times columnist and author Doug Moe:
"It goes without saying that Mike Bie is a splendid storyteller, but his real gift is digging out the tales from the past that are truly worth telling. Nobody knows the truth behind more Wisconsin myths and legends than Mike Bie, and it's his singular talent that in dealing us those truths he has produced a book as entertaining as any ...

The Rainstick, A Fable 3 reviews Sandra Chisholm Robinson
TwoDot, 1994
An Excellent Companion Gift! I bought this book, along with the Rainstick Kit (available in Toys). It was a Christmas gift for a friend's child. She was able to read the book to learn about rainsticks. At the end of the book, it gave her instructions to make her own rainstick and she also make one from the Rainstick Kit. The story in the book was beautifully told and the pictures and colors were breathtaking. This is ...

Love Untamed: Romances of the Old West 1 review JoAnn Chartier, Chris Enss
TwoDot, 2002
A Lovely Book! This book is all that it appears to be and more. It is romantic, factual and lively. The book does not only deal with the lovers who ended up happily married, but those lovers who ended up dying lonely as well. A fantastic read for those who like to read about love the way it really is and was. Highly recommended!

Famous Firearms of the Old West: From Wild Bill Hickok's Colt Revolvers to Geronimo's Winchester, Twelve Guns ... 3 reviews Hal Herring
TwoDot, 2008
Lyric writing about guns Herring writes about guns the way McPhee writes about rocks, fish, and oranges. In an easy but confident voice, Herring describes the history and people behind a dozen firearms. He managed also to be informative but not pedantic and decidedly avoids hook and bullet assumptions. A pleasure to read.

The Cowgirl's Cookbook: Recipes for Your Home on the Range 3 reviews Jill Charlotte Stanford
TwoDot, 2008
Made me hungry Good books are good because they have a rhythm, a flow, that connects parts. That is no easy chore in a recipe book, but Ms. Stanford's side bars and personal comments create that flow. I cannot cook, but I have read the book with pleasure, and it made me hungry. I am going ask my grandchildren to fix me stuff. The photos and Western connection certainly added to pleasure of reading.

Oregon Trail Stories: True Accounts of Life in a Covered Wagon 3 reviews David Klausmeyer
TwoDot, 2003
Respectable, educative of western emigration I always enjoy reading personal accounts of the Oregon/California Trail. Taken from actual diaries, letters, memoirs and reminisces, these are true to life experiences from the pioneers themselves. A few to mention, without being overly exhaustive would be: Catherine Sager Pringle and her six siblings becoming orphans of the trail when in the course of twenty six days both parents died. They ...

Pioneer Doctor: The Story of a Woman's Work 3 reviews Mari Grana
TwoDot, 2005
This woman was a pioneer in many ways This is the story of one woman's persistence and success against social norms that limited women's role in society in the western US during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Not only was this woman a doctor when there were very few women doctors, she also participated in the womens' suffrage movement in Montana and lived through many social changes in that state.
As the only doctor in a ...

Spooky Campfire Stories (Take Along Series) 2 reviews Amy Kelley
TwoDot, 2000
A must-take-along for any camping trip! My middle-school son has been taking this little book along to camp and on camping trips for several years now, and delights in scaring his tentmates with different stories every night. While a couple of the stories may be TOO frightening for the younger set, most are really terrific read-alouds for nature loving campers of all ages.

A Must Read for Washington Women More than Petticoats: Remarkable Washington Women is a fascinating book for anyone even remotely interested in Washington State history. Their accomplishments range from being elected the first female mayor of a major American city, to being the first ...
