Great Book! I got this book for my b-day and I read it right away! This is a wonderful book about three teenagers who are swept back in history to the Civil War. Then they must learn to live like the people back then and each has there own part in the war. This book also teaches allot of facts about the Civil War that I never knew. I recommend it to anyone who loves to read and learn facts:)

Tullahoma: The 1863 Campaign for the Control of Middle Tennessee 4 reviews Michael R. Bradley
White Mane Publishing Company, 1999
A definitive account of an overlooked campaign 1863 is considered by many to be the turning point of the Civil War, with Vicksburg splitting the Confederacy in half & Gettysburg halting Gen. Lee's advance into Penn. But few history buffs know about the decisive Tullahoma campaign that pushed the (Confederate) Army of Tennessee out of Middle Tennessee following the bloody battle of Stones River. Yes, the Tullahoma campaign was relatively ...

United States Marine Corps in the Civil War: The Final Year 2 reviews David M. Sullivan
White Mane Publishing Company, 2000
A very welcome contribution to Civil War studies The United States Marine Corps In The Civil War: The Final Year opens with the elevation of Major Jacob Zellen to the commandant of the corps, over officers senior to him. This ended the policy of accession to that post by seniority and established the precedent of deep-selection. Civil War historian David Sullivan provides a complete account of the marines in the desperate, bloody fights at ...

The Test of Battle: The American Expeditionary Forces in the Meuse-Argonne Campaign 2 reviews Paul F. Braim
White Mane Publishing Company, 1998
Excellent reference, fair reading This book is an excellent historical reference on American participation on the Western Front. It provides ample politico-military information, as well as illuminating the reader on other scholarship in the field. However, it does suffer a bit on what I would describe as inferior editing. Basically, I would recommend this book for a serious historian looking for a good entry into American ...

My American Eden: Mary Dyer, Martyr for Freedom 6 reviews Elizabeth S. Brinton
White Mane Publishing Company, 2004
Separation of Church and State Elizabeth Brinton's fascinating historial novel 'My American Eden' brings home the suffering and eventual execution of Mary Dyer, a colonial spiritual leader who fought and died for religious freedom. I can't help but worry that our country is going to have to fight this battle again and again with the threat to our freedom by the current administration and it's followers. This book is a ...

Broken Drum (White Mane Kids) 2 reviews Edith Morris Hemingway, Jacqueline Cosgrove Shields
White Mane Publishing Company, 1996
Fantastic story-telling. I cried at the end. This is a book for all age readers. I picked it to read a few pages to grad students in my reading methods class as a tradebook that could be used to teach local area (VA/MD/PA) history, realistic way of portraying war, character development, or just a good read. Thank goodness I read it ahead of time--I cried at the ending. Beautifully told with uplifting ending even tho' the main character ...

Roads to Gettysburg: Lee's Invasion of the North, 1863 1 review Bradley M. Gottfried
White Mane Publishing Company, 2002
Ho! for Pennsylvania and Gettysburg Beginning with June 3, 1863, the day after Robert E. Lee gave the order to begin the invasion of Pennsylvania, this book traces all troop movements by corps, both North and South, for each day leading up to July 1, the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Gottfried is not content with movements only, but adds a strong human touch by citing soldiers' journals and letters; thus, for example, we ...

No Girls Allowed (Young Heroes of History, 5) 1 review Alan N. Kay
White Mane Publishing Company, 2004
A fun and historically educational read that will empower many young girls Fighting isn't a boys club only. Set during the American Civil War, "No Girls Allowed" tells the story of Mary Adams and Lynn Rhodes, two young women who, barred from society from fighting, dare to do their part anyway. Mary goes onto the field as a war nurse, while Lynn puts on the uniform of a soldier, her true gender unbeknownst to her fellow soldiers or her superiors. A fun and historically ...

Stopping Pickett: The History of the Philadelphia Brigade 1 review Bradley M. Gottfried

A must read for Civil War buffs. When one starts reading Stopping Pickett, you immediately notice the author has a very comfortable and easy to read writing style. He easily sets the mood in the proper time frame for the reader to fully appreciate, enjoy and sympathize with the men who made up the Philadelphia Brigade. Gottfried's use of quotes, gleamed from diaries, letters and official battle reports, makes the book come ...

Antietam : The Soldiers' Battle 21 reviews John Michael Priest
White Mane Publishing Company, 1990
Terrific read I can't say enough good things about this book. Prior to visiting the Antietam battlefield, I read Sear's Landscape Turned Red to get an overview. But then after seeing the battlefield I was eager to read more. Priest's book was just what I wanted. It is a compilation of first person accounts that puts you right in the middle of the action. You'll feel the shells and bullets flying all around. ...

A Fascinating Book for Young Readers The Powder Monkey is a fascinating book for young readers. The author has combined history with fiction in such a way as to create a magical window for today's youngsters into that era and place that still leaves its mark upon our nation today. A significant portion of The Powder Monkey is the true account of the two-day battle between the Confederate ironclad Virginia and several Union ...

Send 'Em South (Young Heroes of History, Book 1) 5 reviews Alan N. Kay
White Mane Publishing Company, 2001
The best kind of book. Many times books meant for young people don't have an interest for older adults - like the parents! This book is different. In fact this book begs to be read simultaneously by parents and kids, or read aloud by parents and their kids together. The wealth of opportunity for meaningful discussion of goals, opinions, values, and yes - history - should not be left unused. Send 'Em South is well ...

Cannon Blasts: Civil War Artillery in the Eastern Armies 2 reviews L. Vanloan Naisawald

How Many Artillery Casualties Naisawald divides his book into three parts. The first part focuses on the arming, material, and manning of field batteries. The second focuses on the Army of Northern Virginia and the third focuses on the Army of the Potomac.
During the Civil War only about 10 per cent of the casualties were due to artillery fire. This stands in marked contrast to WW I where 70 per cent of the casualties ...
