The Practical Guide to the Genetic Family History 2 reviews Robin L. Bennett
Wiley-Liss, 1999
Outstanding and thorough resource This book is an excellent and thorough reference on the topic of the genetic family history. It is well-organized with a comprehensive index and references. It was not intended to be, and is not, a primer on all genetics disorders (see review above). I would recommend this book to all health care professionals wishing to increase their knowledge of genetics and the importance of the family ...

Immunology: A Short Course 9 reviews Richard Coico, Geoffrey Sunshine, ...
Wiley-Liss, 2003
Ordering for second time I love this book! I'm a 4th year medical student and I have 3 other texts on immunology and this is the one that I keep going back to. I loaned it to a friend and it burned in a fire so here I am ordering it again. The text is simple and to the point. The diagrams are suitable and I found them detailed enough. This is my bedtime reading book.

Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics 3 reviews Jonathan Pevsner
Wiley-Liss, 2003
Excellent for bioinformatics from a user's perspective Unlike the previous review, I found the user perspective, rather than the mathematical perspective refreshing. I have been teaching bioinformatics to CS students for several years and all too often the students are great at algorithms and theory but do not understand the user they are designing for. This book teaches just that -- how to use bioinformatics from a user or researcher's viewpoint. ...

Culture of Animal Cells: A Manual of Basic Technique 9 reviews R. Ian Freshney
Wiley-Liss, 2005
The best book on cell culture Freshney's Culture of Animal Cells is a great book. It is writen on an easy style, it is concise and complete at the same time and it does teach you all the basics (and a little bit more) of cell culture. When I was doing my masters I didn't have a lot of help with my cell culture experiments and this book was fundamental for my research. The book covers everything, starting from the biology of ...

Over the past decade, science has made historic progress in identifying the genetic origins of human development and functioning. Research on the human genome continues apace, and the already considerable demand for genetic counseling services can only intensify as new genetic tests become available. The ...

Textbook of Biochemistry With Clinical Correlations (Textbook of Biochemistry w/ Clinical Correlations) 18 reviews Thomas M. Devlin
Wiley-Liss, 2005
a fine integrative text We used this book teaching first year medical school biochemistry. The clinical correlations are well done, but the real strengh of the book lies in the sections on metabolic interrelationships. It is often confusing to the medical student to learn a pathway, and the the metabolic controls of the pathway, and then the added complexity that this system works differently in different tissues. ...

Drugs-From Discovery to Approval 8 reviews Rick Ng
Wiley-Liss, 2004
An easy way to understand a complex process I work in an organization that supports advanced gene therapy research that may lead to new therapies for chronic and life threatening diseases, but I am not a scientist. As a communicator, I needed to understand the long and arduous journey from discovery to pre-clinical research, to FDA-approved clinical manufacturing, and to human clinical trials. This book was excellent in helping me ...

Population Genetics and Microevolutionary Theory 2 reviews Alan R. Templeton
Wiley-Liss, 2006
New textbook in population genetics offers unique perspectives This latest textbook in population genetics flies above and beyond any other textbook I've read in the field because of its clarity and depth of coverage.
Templeton offers new and unique insights in several key topics in population genetics, and he gives plenty of caveats throughout where important population genetics concepts have been misunderstood. For example, his coverage of inbreeding ...

Fundamentals of Light Microscopy and Electronic Imaging 4 reviews Douglas B. Murphy
Wiley-Liss, 2001
Best Introductory-Level Textbook Dr. Murphy constructs a solid foundation on the basic concepts of geometrical optics, light, and color, and then provides excellent introductory reviews of important topics in light microscopy. The book is very well written and complex phenomena are clearly explained without the unnecessary math that often confuses students. Illustrations are numerous and help support the text very nicely, as ...

Health and Numbers: A Problems-Based Introduction to Biostatistics 1 review Chap T. Le
Wiley-Liss, 2001
Warning: Text contains many errors + Note: This review was originally written for another book from this author, but touches on my experience with this text as well.
It is mind-boggling how one can have so many mistakes in a textbook like this. This book was required for our Biostatistics II class, and I am really displeased by all of the mistakes. What is the worst offense is that some of the answers for test questions are ...

Quality Issue ? The context of the book definately meets my expectations. The book provides a complete overview of PACs I am a bit concerned as to to quality of the book.
