Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide: Roleplaying Game Core Rules, 4th Edition12 reviews
Wizards RPG Team

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Surprisingly helpful
Despite the large amounts of whining you might hear about 4th edition, I believe all the changes are for the better. At least, for the better up from 3rd/3.5, which were terrible rules-wise. The production quality of the book is high and the content well-written. This book is (perhaps counter-intuitively) very light on rules and very heavy on guidelines, but even experienced DMs will learn a ...

Keep on the Shadowfell (Dungeons & Dragons, Adventure H1)22 reviews
Bruce Cordell, Mike Mearls

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Stellar first run - Simplicity personified
Great product. We have been gaming together for 5 years as a group and did a play test with the generic characters. Our DM was able to get the first encounter up and running in less then an hour. All I can say as a user is - When was the last time you actually had fun with first level characters? And for the DM - When was the last time your players had fun with a level 1 adventure? ...

Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook: Roleplaying Game Core Rules, 4th Edition37 reviews
Wizards RPG Team

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

OK, Not like D&D or AD&D but Pretty Good IMO!
Ok, this new 4e DnD set is a mixed bag, I like the streamlined system (I am a big SW SAGA Fan anyway) but have played every incarnation of d20 to date and the originals like AD&D 1st & 2nd and D&D basic systems by TSR, even Buck Rogers d20 by TSR from way back then. I have to say its really not d20 in a way or DnD/AD&D in a way but, the game is neat and original in its system for gaining powers ...

Dungeons and Dragons Core Rulebook Gift Set, 4th Edition26 reviews
Wizards RPG Team

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Like Discovering D&D all Over Again
I played AD&D continuously from 1981/2 through the Second Edition into the early 1990s. Since that time my D&D exposure has been through computer games, where the increasingly exploitable 3 and 3.5 systems seemed to make a tabletop game a complete horror to try and DM. Fourth edition D&D appears to have fixed that. What some negative reviewers fail to understand is that the simple, coherent ...

Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual: Roleplaying Game Core Rules, 4th Edition9 reviews
Wizards RPG Team

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

A re-imagined cast of characters
Like all previous editions of the Monster Manual - this book contains the list of creatures and their statistics that DMs need to create opponents for their players. Before 3rd edition, this was all this book tried to do. While a 2nd edition DM could choose to buy the Fiend Folio instead of the Monster Manual, the 3rd edition (and 3.5) DM did not have this option. 3.0/3.5 added ...

Amber and Blood (Dragonlance: The Dark Disciple, Vol. 3)9 reviews
Margaret Weis

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Wizards of the Coast getting a little sloppy
I've enjoyed the Dragonlance novels for some time, and I admit that my favorites have been with Weis & Hickman at the helm. Their storytelling keeps me wanting to read on in anticipation. That being said, this is not the best of their work. With the ending of the 2nd book of this trilogy being what I felt was unpredictable, this 3rd book is quite the opposite. There are moments that are ...

Ascendancy of the Last (Lady Penitent)2 reviews
Lisa Smedman

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Lovely conclusion
Up front, I am a Lolth-worshipping drow lover. As such I loved this book, it was my favorite out of the three which recovered amazingly the stumblings of the second one. The plot as usual for Smedman was nicely woven together and in some ways rivals the skill of Salvatore's for writing about drow, displaying an excellent understanding of them. In a similar way to WotSQ, this series at times ...

Player's Handbook: Core Rulebook I (Dungeons & Dragons, Edition 3.5)124 reviews

Wizards of the Coast, 2003

A must for any player
This is the say all end all when it comes to D&D. With character creation, detailed explanations of combat, skills, feats, and an impressive starting spell library, this book is a must for all players. If you're new, this is a wonderful text to get a feel for the game. As reference material, I give it an A+ (yes, even for Dungeon Masters).

Dragons of the Highlord Skies (Dragon Lance: The Lost Chronicles, Vol. 2)25 reviews
Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Dragons of the Highlord skies
Excellent read. I myself was always dissapointed that there wasn't more detail regarding Kitiara's and Sturm's adventures to Icereach. This cleared everything up perfectly. Weis and Hickman are true literary geniuses!

Threats of the Galaxy (Star Wars Accessory)6 reviews
Rodney Thompson, Eric Cagle, ...

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

Excellent Resource for Gamemasters
With hundreds of NPC and archetypes for characters, both common and unique, this book serves quite well for what it is intended. There are the usual downsides of RPG products in general (hefty price being key), but for those who are dedicated gamers it is an excellent product.

Dragonlance Chronicles Trilogy Gift Set254 reviews
Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman

Wizards of the Coast, 2001

It seems to me, alot of people miss the point of this series.
I read the Chronicles years ago when they first came out onto bookshelves, desperate for something new to read. I quickly fell in love with this series. I've seen numerous people tear the characters apart. I won't defend them here, because everyone is entitled to their own opinions. The stories, whether written by Weiss & Hickman, or other writers of this series are well done. When I moved from ...
