A Great ActionScript 3 Book!
If you're new to AS 3 and have some kind of OOP (Object Oriented Programming) experience in your past or none at all then this book is right up your alley...an experienced programmer may find this book a little simplistic. Anyway, I've always had a problem understanding programming concepts because I could never apply them to real world applications. All through college while taking JAVA, VB, ...

ActionScript for both Flash and Flex
Like most of the friends of ED books on Flash and ActionScript, this book by Steve Webster, Todd Yard and Sean McSharry is a good book for the novice. Most beginner's books on ActionScript cover just the basics such as variables, loops and functions and don't go much further. However in this book, the authors go one step further and help the readers to extend their ActionScript skills for both ...

Flex at its finest!
I have learned a great deal from this book. Along with taking a course with the author and reading this book I have learned how to do things the correct way and have reaped the rewards from it. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to learn Flex quickly and/or catch up on whats new in Flex 3.

Start using the PHP examples straight away
I decided I wanted to add PHP to my website to make it more dynamic and reduce maintenance. But I didn't know any PHP. So I picked up PHP Solutions and within an hour or two of opening the front cover, I had converted my website to PHP and added several dynamic features that were demonstrated in the book! This book is brilliant. It provides a good background and understanding of PHP and the ...

Solid and Fun
Overall this is five-star survey of Flash CS3, written for people with slight knowledge of earlier versions of Flash and some more familiarity with basic graphic programs (primarily Photoshop and Illustrator) and web design. The treatment of CSS covers most of what any designer or developer will need to know in the course of any average Flash project. The introduction to ActionScript 3.0 is ...

Perfect for learning DOM
This book gots it all together well. I love the way the author writes and the way he presents a concept. Its so easy to follow and understand. This book isn't fit for a total beginner..you're going to need at least some experience with Javascript, CSS, and HTML to be able to implement DOM in your javascript. I've never written a review before but after reading 10 chapters of this book, I ...

Fantastic
Let's start with a warning - this is not a book for beginners. To appreciate it (apart from the "coffee table" usage someone else mentioned), you have to know a lot about CSS, HTML and have decent knowledge of JavaScript and DOM. But once you're there and have a few web design projects behind you, you'll really appreciate all the nuggets in this book. The ideas presented in it, as well as the ...

This Book Saved Me!
I'm currently taking a class in PHP/MySQL and it's use in eCommerce, and this book has really helped me along the way! The author shows you the ways in which Dreamweaver can help you to reduce your development time, but still produced some really great, dynamic sites. He goes into detail on some of the code as well, which is helpful. Additionally, the author is very honest and recommends other ...

ERRATA FIXED GREAT BOOK!
OK, so I was a little hesitant to pick up this book despite all the great reviews. It was all the errors that were printed in the book that I was unsure of. Most of these errors were typos but some were errors in the code. If you don't know much about CSS these would be hard to spot. I decided to get the book, which I am still reading, and decided I should hi-light all the errors in the book ...

Everything you wanted to know
I'm only on chapter 5, but this book really lays out all of the tools you need to prototype and/or develop video games in Flash. At first I was a little upset because the author seemed to skip over some elements for the beginner, or rather the rusty flash programmer, but he explains just enough so that if you want to dig into it you can. This book probably isn't for the very beginner. You need ...

Helps you get started in understanding how to develop in Silverlight.
I bought this book soon after MS released the Beta 1 of Silverlight 2. It helped me get started with learning the Expression Blend tool and how to do some basic design. It is not a programmers book nor does it attempt to be one. It is a good introduction on how to get around in Blend so you don't have to figure it out yourself. And along the way the authour makes it enjoyable.

A Guide to the Moving Target
I saw one copy of this at Powell's Technical Books in Portland yesterday, and picked it up, figuring it was new. It was--just published in the last few weeks. I haven't delved into it as much I would like, but that doesn't matter here because I carefully reviewed the contents before purchase. So: why buy this book? If you're working with Flash and ActionScript 3.0 currently, you know the Flash ...

Definately worth purchasing.
The short review: I downloaded this off a torrent; I was so impressed with it, that I'm buying it hard copy. It's definately one of those books that works well for a quick reference. The long review: This book probably isn't for absolute gurus, simply because there's too much explanation. I'd probably recommend "The Ultimate CSS Reference" if you've already got a firm foundation and just ...

Stretch beyond the mechanics of the Flash tools
There are many books about cartoon animation in Flash. What sets this book apart from the rest is the approach the authors have taken to make this book much more than just another step-by-step book about drawing and animating characters. Foundation Flash Cartoon Animation is for the animator who needs to stretch beyond the mechanics of the Flash tools and perfect the decision-making process ...
