Rascal 65 reviews Sterling North
L'Ecole des loisirs, 1988
A Favorite I enjoyed this book when I was a boy and now my children love it too. Sterling North paints a delightful picture of rural Wisconsin in 1918. This novel should be required reading in middle school literature.

Fun & easy reading This story is a favorite of mine in english and, now that I'm teaching french to my children, it has become a favorite of theirs in french! It's easy reading and fun with great illustrations. I was extremely pleased that Amazon had Bonsoir Lune available and my children and I highly recommend it!

Anastasia Krupnik 37 reviews Lois Lowry
L'Ecole des loisirs, 1998
Grew up on these One of the major moments in my childhood came when I read that Myron Krupnik kept his poetry manuscripts in the crisper drawer of the fridge so they wouldn't burn in a fire. My father (also a poet, also an English professor) did the exact same thing. I vaguely remember jumping up and down on my bed and wanting to move to Boston.
Buy these for your child, even if you're not a poet. They're ...

Pezzettino 3 reviews Leo Lionni
L'Ecole des loisirs, 2000
Leo Lionni's Pezzettino is Sweet Pezzettono is a lovely story about ones worth and acceptance. My son loves it. He chose it as his favorite book of second grade. He made a diorama to celebrate its message of self-discovery.

Devine Combien Je t Aime 2 reviews Sam McBrateney
l'ecole des loisirs, 2002
A great way to teach french to your little student We got this bok because we are trying to teach our 5 yr old some basic French. This book is great for questions and declarations and the repetitive nature of the ryhmes make it easy for the child to learn. Since she knew and loved the english version, this was a great way to learn some french.
I recomend this with Ours Brun, Dis-Moi (Brown Bear What Do You See), Bonsoir Lune (Goodnight Moon) ...

Fox 14 reviews Margaret Wild, Ron Brooks
L'Ecole des loisirs, 2000
A Masterpiece "Fox" cannot be praised highly enough. Beautiful and poignant, anomalous and moving, it's my favorite children's book. The setting, characters, story are beautifully integrated and rendered. Every page is a visual stunner and the text is spot-on perfect.
One (negative) reviewer has suggested that it allegorizes an affair. Although I don't disagree that it can be read this way, few people ...

Diego 11 reviews Jonah Winter, Jeanette Winter
L'Ecole des loisirs, 1992
Great Writing a book about Diego Rivera in terms that young children can understand is not an easy task, however this book does a great job. The story is engaging, the pictures are wonderfully colorful, and can hold a kid's attention. I purchased this book when my daughter was only 3 and even though she didn't understand much of the text, she was captivated by the pictures. I would recommend this book ...

Lassie 1 review Susan Jeffers, Rosemary Wells
L'Ecole des loisirs, 1999
A heartwarming story of the best dog in the world. I grew up with the Lassie TV series so had a soft spot for her already. I purchased this book at our local book store as it was by a "local author" which surprised me as I live in Bucks County PA. (Lassie is actually buried here). I read this story to my almost six year old and the last few pages I was in tears, it was so touching. My son and I heartily recommend this book.

Petit Musée 2 reviews Alain Le Saux, Grégoire Solotareff

I've remembered this book from my trip to France in 1993 I saw this book in France in 1993 and loved it. I was a student and the price was around $40 US dollars so I could not purchase it then. Now that I have a 2 year old I am thrilled to find it on Amazon, even as a used copy. Petit Musee is a picture book for French children, but each picture is an item from a famous masterpiece of art. It's gorgeous!!!!! A wonderful way to introduce little ones to ...
