Our Town: A Play in Three Acts (Perennial Classics)109 reviews
Thornton Wilder

Harper Perennial Modern Classics, 2003

The Face of Eternity and the Mind of God
By most accounts Thornton Wilder (1897-1975) considered himself a teacher rather than a writer--a curious situation given than he won numerous literary awards, including three Pulitzers. Among these prize-winners was OUR TOWN, first staged in 1938. It is generally considered to be the single most famous play written by an American author, and Samuel French Inc., which holds the amateur ...

How to Be a Villain: Evil Laughs, Secret Lairs, Master Plans, and More!!!34 reviews
Neil Zawacki

Chronicle Books, 2003

Cool Kids Book !!!
I bought this book knowing it was targeted for kids. I would say young males within the ages of 11-15 would be entertained by this book. Good graphic layout makes it interesting reading and keeps the attention of your young budding doctor evil. It reads much like a "How to Guide -to being a Comic Book Super Villian." So parent's should'nt fret as the information is humorous and entertaining.

Dark Tide I: Onslaught (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order, Book 2)182 reviews
Michael A. Stackpole

Del Rey, 2000

Awesome, once again
I have just finished the book. I am now on Dark Tide 2. I thought Dark Tide 1 was awesome. It continued the adventures of all the caracters, adding new characters. The book starts out almost right after Vector Prime. I thought the ending was awesome: with all the slaves attacking on dantooine. So over all not a bad book in NJO. Lots of Action,Lightsabers, and overall a good plot line. I would ...

Neuromancer (Ace Science Fiction)449 reviews
William Gibson

Ace Trade, 2000

Case Meets the Matrix [T]
Neuromancer bends your thoughts and concepts with its theme of man integrating self with computerized Artificial Intelligence - what we commonly dub as AI. Written in a style reminiscent to James Cain, Micky Spillane, Dashiell Hammett and other authors of that 19th century mystery genre, the book keeps you on your toes about what will happen when the mainframe's "matrix" ghosts collide - will ...

Stephen King

Signet, 2003

You have to read the whole series
When I read this book, I actually thought that it was written by "another" Stephen King....someone that was using Steve's name to capitalize on his popularity. After reading the series, I am amazed by how it all comes together.

Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of ...94 reviews
Rosalind Wiseman

Three Rivers Press, 2002

Enlightening for Dad
Simply put, I found the book to far exceed my expectations for it. As a male, the author's insights into girls' social roles and interactions were a huge eye-opener. And as the father of three girls, I appreciate all the examples of specific situations girls may find themselves in, how their thinking/social conditioning may have contributed, and how they can extricate themselves. As others ...

The Tale of the Body Thief (Vampire Chronicles)197 reviews
Anne Rice

Ballantine Books, 1993

An interesting twist on the series.
Body thief is probably my second favorite in the Vampire Chronicles next to Memnoch. The characters, especially the body thief is very interesting and sometimes amusing. The whole idea of leaving your body and possessing another makes for a good read. How Lestat gets his body back, and what ends up happening to David..............I'm not telling but it's worth a read. The Vampires and the ...

Exploring Solaris, from movies to book.
I'm kind of new to the story of Solaris, seeing the film with george clooney, that i really liked and then later seeing the drawn out russion film. Although i know most of the story centers around Rheya and Kelvin, the sci fi side of me wanted to know more about the planet of Solaris. The book does just that, i loved reading along with Kelvin, the main character, how he peruses the library on ...

Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads: Dealing with the Difficult Parents in Your Child's Life3 reviews
Rosalind Wiseman, Elizabeth Rapoport

Three Rivers Press, 2007

Some people never leave 7th grade behind so how do you cope?
I have two elementary-aged girls and bought this book hoping it would help me communicate with other adults in their lives in a productive manner. Mrs. Wiseman injects humor, incorporates real-life stories from parents across the country and provides step by step how-to strategies for dealing with difficult situations. While you might have moved on from 7th grade you will be amazed by the number ...

Queen Bees and Wannabees3 reviews
Rosalind Wiseman

Piatkus Books, 2003

An Indispensible Guide on a Subject that Receives little Attention
This book is about the friendships and social circles of girls aged roughly 10-15, with most of the focus on the "cliques" they so famously form, describing the roles girls commonly play in the them (Queen Bee, etc). The author has extensive experience dealing with girls this age at her job and runs workshops for schools. It's a very hands on, practical account. She argues that while ...

Murders on Elderberry Road: A Queen Bees Quilt Mystery1 review
Sally Goldenbaum

Kansas City Star Books, 2003

Sewing mystery and murder into a good story
I loved this book. It reminded me of the crisp falls in the college town I'd just moved from, just with more intrigue. And I love the ladies in the quilting group; they're caring, quirky, and on a mission. I can't wait for the next in the series to come out!

Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith270 reviews
Matthew Stover

Del Rey, 2005

Best Star Wars movie novelization of the six
Matthew Stover, author of the excellent Mace Windu novel Shatterpoint, does not disappoint with his novelization of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Movie novelizations are often inconsequential by-products of a marketing push behind a big event picture, but in Stover's case, he strongly builds upon the film plot and adds meaningful substance to what was already a great story. Rather ...

A Murder of Taste: A Queen Bees Quilt Mystery2 reviews
Sally Goldenbaum

Kansas City Star Book, 2004

The Queen Bees Quilters are at it again
A really good cozy mystery series that takes place in a small quaint town in Kansas. Picasso has opened a gourmet restaurant in this unusual setting and the townsfolk are loving it. Po and her gang of quilters are fans of Picasso's. A plump, little man with a gorgeous wife. His wife Laurel is found dead in the water and they're not sure if she slipped or it was foul play.....you figure it ...

Queen Must Die and Other Affairs of Bees and Men13 reviews
William Longgood

W. W. Norton & Company, 1988

Excellent read for all - whether you're a bee "lover" or not.
What a great read about all things bees - and our interaction with them. I discovered this gem on a search at the library and recognizing it as the book frequently quoted in "The Secret Life of Bees", and thought it might be interesting. Well it was much more than interesting. Mr. Longwood presents his insights and information in a delightful, informal manner. Even if you have little interest in ...

Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles467 reviews
Anne Rice

Knopf, 1995

Fabulous!
This was so different from her other books, but in a delighfully dark and good way. You really get sucked into the storytelling and you envision Lestat and his journey. It is full of religious passages and undertones, yet, it doesn't derail you from the fact that you are reading a wonderful vampire novel. Its all quite interesting, even for someone who is not religious. It is most definetely a ...

Finding the Strength to Stand Up for Our Kids (and Stepkids)
If you've ever tried to get involved in the PTA and wondered why you left feeling insecure about your abilities as a parent, winced at hearing a dad (or mom) comment loudly and negatively on the soccer abilities of 5-year-olds from the sidelines, or sat silently while the booster club is hijacked by a parent who's a bully, then you'll find much to appreciate in this book. A never-ending ...
