Pinnacle Studio 9 for Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide)9 reviews
Jan Ozer

Peachpit Press, 2004

The author sails to new horizons with Pinnacle Studio 9 Visual Quickstart Guide!
I've read numerous technical books on many subjects and have never sailed through the software as smoothly as with this book. If you're looking for a tutorial that can whiz you through the subject matter with ease and accuracy this is it! No matter where you wish to refer back to, you can do it without reading the whole chapter (as with other tutorials). Quickstart is the name however I feel it ...

UNIX (Visual QuickStart Guide)19 reviews
Deborah S. Ray, Eric J. Ray

Peachpit Press, 1998

It is Very nice book offers wealth of useful knowledge !
I like easy to read book and I also assumed that learning UNIX is not necessarily has to a struggle. This book stood up to my expectations almost perfectly: it is very well written and clearly expressed work. It does not overwhelm with technical details and does not press too much. I followed an advise in some review and purchased Linux and UNIX for a beginner training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs ...

Claris Home Page 3 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Richard Fenno

Peachpit Press, 1998

This book delivers on its promise.
This book was very helpful getting me up and running and doing what I wanted to do--make my website. It was also helpful in steping me through publishing my first database on FileMaker Pro. I would reccomend it to anyone wanting to use Home Page. I should say that Home Page is a very easy to use, but powerful program. It is quite intuitive. This book just happens to make it even easier to use. ...

Visual Basic 6 (Visual QuickStart Guide)10 reviews
Harold Davis

Peachpit Press, 1999

Visual Basic 6: Visual QuickStart Guide
I found this book to be extremely helpful as a novice in the world of Visual Basic. Mr Davis's use of graphics took a great deal of the guess work away and demonstrated what the forms and properties should look like. This is a great book for beginners. His explanations are clear and concise. The source code downloads were excellent and allowed the user to compare their projects and judge your ...

CorelDRAW 9 for Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Phyllis Davis

Peachpit Press, 1999

This book is awesome!
Miss Phyllis Davis does an excellent job of explaining CorelDraw. She really knows what she is talking about. You can use this book as a reference, or follow the steps in it to perform specific tasks. Do not be fooled because it is a smaller book with many pictures. This "little" book says more than any other CorelDraw book I have looked at. It is indespensable on my shelf.

Keynote for Mac OS X (Visual QuickStart Guide)8 reviews
Tom Negrino

Peachpit Press, 2003

forget the manual
Forget the manual, get this book instead, especially if you want to learn how Themes and Master slides are constructed. I run KeynoteUser.com and I was the tech editor on this book (I read every page, cover to cover). I also wrote the first draft of the chapter on building custom themes...all that to say I STILL learned things from this book while I was reading through it. There's stuff in there ...

Palm Organizers (Visual QuickStart Guide)7 reviews
Jeff Carlson

Pearson Education, 2000

Palm Organizers Visual QuickStart Guide
This is an excellent book that will transform the reader from novice to near-power user. The author details the product offerings, basic features, more advanced features, and third party offerings that increase the value of the Palm. With this book as a primer, I knew exactly what I was doing when I first picked up a Palm. I scanned the Palm For Dummies book before settling on this book. ...

QuarkXPress 4 for Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)10 reviews
Elaine Weinmann

Peachpit Press, 1998

An excellent tutor at my desk-side.
I bought this book as a last resort because my Computer Graphics professor told us we would need lots of tutoring in order to pass with good grades. I was totally "Quark illiterate" before taking this course and buying the book. Honestly, this book explains a lot more than a tedious 3 week course in class could. The book has taken me step-by-step through all the process of learning style-sheets ...

GIMP (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Phyllis Davis

Peachpit Press, 2000

Excellent and complete introduction.
At the time of this writing, this is easily the best introduction to the GIMP. It covers about 90% of the material in the GIMP for Linux Bible, but the explanations are more concise. I would recommend the other book only if you need coverage of scripting, which this Quickstart doesn't really have.

Pinnacle Studio 8 for Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Jan Ozer

Peachpit Press, 2003

Incredibly, the book is version 8.6 & up, 2003
I've had this book for less than a day and it's already paid for itself. I bought Studio 8, which now has been updated to version 8.10 (eight point ten, not 1.0). I figured even if the book were good for the very first versions of Studio 8, OK. As soon as you open the book, you see that Jan refers to changes made as recently as v. 8.6; I was thrilled. This is a brand new book/edition. Studio ...

iMovie HD and iDVD 5 for Mac OS X (Visual QuickStart Guide)3 reviews
Jeff Carlson

Peachpit Press, 2005

iMovie HD & iDVD 5 for Mac OS X
Jeff Carlson's Visual Quickstart Guides for iMovie are the best software manuals I've ever used. I've been dipping into the Visual Quickstart Guides for a number of programs for 5 years and I find them easy to read, direct, and clear as a bell. It's a great series and for people who are slow learners like me, they're a pleasure. I also teach iMovie and this is the book I recommend to my students.

CorelDRAW 7 for Windows 95/NT (Visual QuickStart Guide)3 reviews
Phyllis Davis

Peachpit Press, 1996

Step-by-step guidance with really cool graphics!
This book has the step-by-step guidance that I need when I work through a program as complex as CorelDraw 7! In addition, it is really visually awesome. The graphic design in this book puts it way above most computer software books. Using it, you'll find yourself opening whole new creative worlds

Handspring Visor (Visual QuickStart Guide)3 reviews
Jeff Carlson

Pearson Education, 2002

An excellent addition to your VQSG Library
Jeff Carlson's latest, "Handspring Visor: Visual QuickStart Guide", has proven to be an invaluable resource in my growing VQSG library. I am a convert - no more "dummies" or "morons" for me. The Visual QuickStart series as a whole presents technical material in clear, concise and intelligent fashion, without compromising the integrity of it's material with cartoons or remedial presentation. ...

Illustrator CS for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2004

Very powerful resource for beginners to Adobe IllustratorCS
I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator very well with the aid of this book. The book is organized in logical steps and the authors speaks in plain english which makes the instructions very easy to understand. The method of teaching in this book allows you to understand why you're performing a certain action. The book shows you how to create results with detailed instructions and mini pictures ...

InDesign 1.0/1.5 for Macintosh and Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide)4 reviews
Sandee Cohen

Peachpit Press, 2000

Just the ticket for this experienced beginner!
Ms. Cohen's Quickstart Guide to InDesign was perfect for me to get a, er ... quick start in learning this sophisticated design tool. I write this as someone who's had lots of experience with other computer tools, but who's new to page layout; although I expect it'd be equally helpful to anyone who'd dare to approach anything as complex as a desktop page layout program. The book's strengths, ...

FileMaker Pro 6 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)3 reviews
Nolan Hester

Peachpit Press, 2002

Cool New Features Explained!
I wrote the book, so call me biased. Still I wanted to highlight that FileMaker 6 is not just another upgrade and the book not just another revision (I know because I've been doing this since FileMaker 4). Two cool features, highlighted in the book, make FileMaker 6 worth the upgrade: full XML support and auto-importing of digital camera images (Mac only). * While XML is a blessing to database ...

CorelDRAW 8 for Windows, Fourth Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide)4 reviews
Phyllis Davis

Peachpit Press, 1998

Excellent for graphics beginner
I grasp computer concepts very quickly and have worked with some desktop publishing programs, but had never worked with a "professional" graphics program before. This book, however, was excellent; within an hour I was up and running and very comfortable using both the program and the book. Would recommend highly. Now I wish the author would write one for Corel PhotoPaint (hint, hint).

Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)4 reviews
Sandee Cohen

Peachpit Press, 2004

callipygia600.com
Having bought Studio MX 2004 because I wanted the easiest way to integrate graphics with DreamWeaver, I struggled and struggled to use Fireworks. I use Photoshop, but read how great Fireworks was and wanted to try it. I found that it's HELP is terrible, and not very useful to new users. Then I found Sandee Cohen's book, and all is now clear. This is a great book, walking the user ...

UNIX, Third Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide)4 reviews
Deborah S. Ray, Eric J. Ray

Peachpit Press, 2006

Best Unix book for beginer to intermediate
I have been looking for good Unix book for beginer. I am in computer industry for 10 years, mostly in web applications. My unix knowledge is minimal (first 5 chapters of this book). Recently I decided to improve my skills to get ready for shell scripts. I found this book in my local library. Book was organized very well, simple and visual approach ensures you like a teacher. Straight to the ...
