Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story (Signet Classic Shakespeare) 22 reviews
Laurel Leaf, 1965
A logical pairing of 2 great theatrical works This is two books in one: the text of William Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet" and the text of "West Side Story," the 20th century musical with a book by Arthur Laurents and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The book also includes an introduction by Norris Houghton, who notes, among other things, that WSS is based on R&J. Each text tells the story of a love affair between a young woman and a ...

Romeo And Juliet 1 review William Shakespeare
Barron''s Educational Series, 2002
Perfect! I'm a high school freshman studying Romeo & Juliet and I cannot understand hardly any of it. I found this book at a Borders bookstore and I have been reading it and it is extremely helpful. There's a line-by-line translation that makes a ton more sense. Buy this if you're having trouble with R&J!

Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Easy) 27 reviews William Shakespeare
Barron's Educational Series, 1985
Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Easy; Parallel Edition) This was a great resource while teaching "Romeo and Juliet" last year to my English 1 students. I was able to explain the more difficult passages to them as we read along in the book. I wish that I had the money to purchase this book for all of my students. I plan to use it again this school year.

Romeo and Juliet (Dover Thrift Editions) 27 reviews William Shakespeare
Dover Publications, 1993
Shakespeare as it should be... This is Shakespeare as it should be... no extraneous notes, no unnecessary stage directions, nothing but the text. If you are looking for anything that explains character, language, theme, etc. don't look here, as Shakespeare never wrote any of that. This is purely the text as-is.
As a theatre professor, I would rather have my students work with a text like this rather than one littered ...

Falling for Romeo 8 reviews Jennifer Laurens
Grove Creek Publishing, 2007
More like Romeo falling for Juliet! So... I picked up this book and I found this amazingly INSANE, awesome story. Basically, this is what I found...
Falling for Romeo is written so you can see the thoughts of the two main characters. John and Jennifer. John and Jenn grew up together living in houses right next door. They were best friends and you couldn't keep them apart until high school came around. Now things have changed. ...

Shakespeare Set Free: Teaching A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth 2 reviews Teaching Shakespeare Institute
Washington Square Press, 2006
"Shakespeare Set Free" set my imagination free! Do you have HS students who just don't get Shakespeare? Don't even bother because of the language? Here's the book to break the Shakespeare language barrier. I bought this book for a "secondary English class" at college, since then I have bought one for a friend who teaches drama and I have suggested it to all the 9th and 10th grade English teachers at my high school. The three Shapespeare plays ...

Romeo and Juliet : For Kids (Shakespeare Can Be Fun series) 3 reviews Lois Burdett
Firefly Books, 1998
A wonderful way to introduce Shakespeare to kids As a homeschooling parent I was looking for a way to introduce Shakespeare to my kids (9 and 10) -- they have loved these stories -- which we read aloud and then discussed (plot, characters, themes, conflicts, setting, motivations, etc.) -- the verse is enjoyable and effectively incorporates selected passages from the original in a seamless way. My kids have also enjoyed the illustrations and ...

Romeo and Juliet (Folger Shakespeare Library) 28 reviews William Shakespeare
Washington Square Press, 2004
Can Love Conquer All? Innocent love is the most pure... and the sight of those who are in that beautiful whirlwind of its hypnotic clutches is a sight to behold.
Is it true? "Is youth wasted on the young."
Sometimes, sometimes not.
Romeo and Juliet is the most known western love story of all time.
Why?
This is not an easy question to answer, however, personally, I would never go back to those extremes ...

Romeo and Juliet (Cliffs Complete) 2 reviews William Shakespeare
Cliffs Notes, 2000
The Best Romeo and Juliet I've found for teaching I've been teaching Romeo and Juliet to ninth graders for eight years, and this is by far the best edition I've used to teach. The commentary is helpful, and pointed out important topics for discussion. There is plenty of room to write notes in the margin -- in fact, I've got two copies, both with notes, so that I have an emergency backup! One of the most useful things I found in this edition ...

Romeo and Juliet--Together (And Alive!) at Last 5 reviews Avi
HarperTrophy, 1988
Read this book about a life for a modern a 5-7th grader. I read the book, Romeo & Juliet Together at last (and alive) by Avi Wortis. It was about a boy who was in love with a girl . The boy liked poetry and the girl could never put a book down. The boy's friends think that if he could put on the play Romeo & Juliet his friend would be Romeo and his lover would be Juliet. It worked out as he planned and they got the parts .There is one problem; ...

Manga Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet (Manga Shakespeare) 6 reviews William Shakespeare, Richard Appignanesi, ...
Abrams Books for Young Readers, 2007
Pretty cool. My daughters love it.. I bought this for my admittedly hyper-literate daughters (10-14) who are currently fixated on both manga and Shakespeare. The graphics in the book are very well done and the story is straight from the bard. It's a great way for kids to dig a little deeper into very rich material. Highly recommended.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet 2 reviews William Shakespeare, Adam Sexton, ...
Wiley, 2008
Love, defiance and tragedy. Romeo and Juliet, a cursed love. In a world locked behind Verona walls, the story of
Romeo and Juliet questions the very meaning of
love and the importance of it.. It puts forward the
notion that a life without love is not worth living,
and explains the decisions, the conflicts and
tragedy that illustrate the journey in between.
Trapped within an ongoing feud that denies the
love that Romeo and Juliet posses, it is a ...

Shakespeare's First Folio -- 35 plays in one file, with active table of contents 3 reviews
B&R Samizdat Express, 2007
Fantastic value for dollar I got my Kindle 2 weeks ago and am still learning its uses and limitations. I'm in the process of building my e-library. For me, getting all these Shakespeare plays for 99 cents is fantastic. I read the prior negative review and publisher's comment. My thoughts:
* The active table of contents does help - so the review was correct but now that this has an active TOC, the review is obsolete. ...

Good Book I think this book is good if you understand the deeper meaning within, many people in my College-Prep English class did not fully read and understand it, therefore they didn't like it. This book includes notes and a glossary on one side with the play on the other. I truely suggest this book to all those freshman who are reading this book.

Enchanting YA Review: Saving Juliet SAVING JULIET

Mimi Wallingford lives a life most girls would kill for, especially where her starring role as Juliet to pop star Troy Summer's Romeo at her family's theatre is concerned. But in reality, Mimi Wallingford is tired of being a Shakespearian actor, having been on stage since she was little. All she wants to do is get to the final show and ...

The Master of Verona 26 reviews David Blixt
St. Martin's Press, 2007
Brush up your Shakespeare, then READ THIS BOOK! This book is a masterpiece. To call it a mere historical novel is like calling the Iliad or the Divine Comedy adventure stories. They're that-- and a great deal more. So is this book. It interweaves historical characters with characters from Shakespeare (some of whom were also real people) and still others from the author's own imagination.
The period detail is superb, the dialogue sparkles; ...
