Excellent novel, one of Pilcher's best
Septmeber is one of Pilcher's best novels, second only to her classic, The Shell Seekers. Her characters will stay with you, she has such a wonderful way of making them real, yet still likeable for the most part. Many of her other works are good as well but this one (along with Shell Seekers) is one that I happily reread on a regular basis because it's almost like saying hello to old friends.

The photos tell what it was like
This is a book to mourn the mass murders on that day. Walking from Manhattan to Brooklyn, over the Manhattan bridge, through torrents of horrified people, thousands covered in ash--all deadly silent--this is what it was like. There were no car horns. No one talked. No one laughed. Everyone knew he was lucky. These photographs tell the story. Never forget. --Alyssa A. Lappen

One Of The Most Impressive Literary Debuts of 2007
Young Iranian-American writer Dalia Sofer is one whose ample literary talents offer much promise of a bright career awaiting her, if her literary debut "The Septembers of Shiraz" is any indication. Her debut novel is one of the most fascinating recent literary debuts I've come across, almost rivaling Eugene Drucker's "The Savior" for both its intriguing characters, harsh subject matter, and ...

The pangs of independence
One of Elizabeth Bowen's finest novels, THE LAST SEPTEMBER has grown in popularity in recent years thanks to the overtly political nature of its topic (the demise of the Anglo-Irish "county" life by means of the Irish War of Independence) and the recent 1999 film adaptation with Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith and Fiona Shaw. Most of the novel's action takes place in Danielstown, the Leinster ...

"Debunk "Munich" with this book
AS you probably know, the elitists in hollywood would like you to sympathize with terrorists so we can understand them and coddle them with empathy. The new Spielberg film "Munich" further distorts the truth about the Mossad's "Wrath of God" operation and clearly distorts the real truth about what happened. Read this book so you can know the truth about what happened that day in 1972. Arm ...

Eine Brücke auch weit
While Robert Kershaw's "It Never Snows in September" doesn't read like C. Ryan's "A Bridge Too Far", it is a wonderful complement and serious study. Kershaw's book details the Battle for Arnhem and associated actions of the Allies Operation Market-Garden from the German perspective. As such this book is in many way the mirror image of Ryan's book, told from the Allied side of the fence. Where ...

Message of Hope
I have to offer a rebuttal for the last review I saw entitled "Teaching Self-centeredness". Obviously, our lives did not magically become ok on September 12, 2001. I don't believe that it was this book's intention to imply that. This book provided a much needed message of hope and healing for both children and adults. The book can be used to guide a discussion about the events of September ...

Very Informative
This book was so interesting I read it in one day. The map at the beginning of the book helps to keep all of the people and their respective houses in perspective. It is very informative and not depicted with horrific details. One of the best books written on this subject.

Great read!
Mr. Vickery shares his knowledge of the wonderful Florida Keys in a delightful manner. We grow to love that area as much as Jordy and Cassie do! His mix of mystery, business intrigue and a sweet love story kept us entertained from cover to cover.

A credible viewpoint from a historian.
This book is a collection of essays written in the weeks after 9/11. His viewpoints on this new warfront are very well thought out, researched and for the most part based on history, not just of battles and wars, but cultures as well. In short, he seem's to see this war in somewhat simplistic terms of "us or them" and "do or die" where pacifism, denial, and self-blame ("we brought this on ...

Gertz begins by relating how, prior to 9/11, the CIA failed to help an Afghan leader trying to rally forces against the pro bin Laden Taliban. As a result, he was captured and executed. Lack of Coordination: In '95, Philippine police investigating a fire and explosion learned the details of plans to blow up 11 airliners over the Pacific, as well as to fly a plane into CIA headquarters. A professional baseball history
This archivally-bound, well-written book is a professional historian's account of the season of the 1964 Phillies. It is well illustrated with portraits of the major players in this story. In 1964, I made a bet with my brother: that Richie Allen would some day be considered as great as Mickey Mantle. We still argue the comparison, but thanks to this book, I better appreciate the reasons I ...

Its in the Details
I was amazed at the level of detail supporting the hostages' point of view narrative. The personal recollections astounded me as to how people could remain so calm for so many days under the terrible and threatening conditions. I would have liked to have known more of what the participants are doing today.
