The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Only Way to Guarantee Your Fair Share of Stock Market Returns ...69 reviews
John C. Bogle

Wiley, 2007

This is truly common sense
This is an excellent book for any investor. The straight common sense advice that this book provides will help everyone with their investment portfolios. The best quote from the book is "the miracle of compounding interest is overwhelmed by the tyranny of cost". Through index funds, the author explains how to cut costs and caption the return of the entire stock market. This is an excellent ...

Microeconomics1 review
Paul Krugman, Robin Wells

Worth Publishers, 2004

Probably great, but excerpt from larger book
This is probably a very, very good book. However, it turns out that this is simply one-half of the authors' book "Economics" and, currently, the complete book seems to sell for about the same price as this one piece of it! So, be economical -- buy "Economics" instead.

Jim Cramer's Stay Mad for Life: Get Rich, Stay Rich (Make Your Kids Even Richer)43 reviews
James J. Cramer

Simon & Schuster, 2007

His Best Book Yet
At last, Jim Cramer has written a book for real people. The other ones were useful, but this one finally addresses the issues that affect retired investors, non-millionaires and others who are not out simply to make a fast buck off the market. I recommend this highly to anyone seeking some good basic advice with the Cramer touch.

Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share (Martha Stewart Living Magazine)58 reviews
Martha Stewart Living Magazine

Clarkson Potter, 2008

Love to Bake
I bought this book as soon as it came out.. I love it.... Almost every recipe has a picture. I also love the way the book has been divided to different types of cookies. Yes, you can find almost all of these recipes on the website.. but only if you know what you are looking for.. I get inspired by thumbing through the book to find something new to bake. Love this book.

Options Made Easy: Your Guide to Profitable Trading (2nd Edition)32 reviews
Guy Cohen

FT Press, 2005

A Terrific informative read!
For me the title says it all. This book really does make options easy and the author goes the extra mile by explaining everything in multiple ways. If you're logical, he covers it, if you're visual, he covers it and I'm a bit of both. I also appreciated the way in which every trade example was documented in a table and compared with a different type of trade. Great book.

Trend Following: How Great Traders Make Millions in Up or Down Markets, New Expanded Edition, (Paperback)75 reviews
Michael W. Covel

FT Press, 2007

Great Read
I bought both of this author's books on the recommendation of Amazon. The first book, the Complete TurtleTrader was the one that I read first. I wish I would have read them in reverse. Trend Following built up the story. After reading Trend Following I went back and read the Complete TurtleTrader again. What made the book great? Well like most reading these types of books, I am a person ...

Ten Lessons to Transform Your Marriage: America's Love Lab Experts Share Their Strategies for Strengthening ...8 reviews
John M. Gottman, Julie Schwartz Gottman, ...

Three Rivers Press, 2007

I give copies of this book as wedding gifts.
When it comes to books on marriage and relationships, I rely on the Gottman books, where the concepts were gleaned from scientific observation and statistical analysis, rather than pop psychology and opinion. For several years, I have been giving "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work" (SP) as wedding gifts, and now I include "10 Lessons to Transform Your Marriage" (10L) as well. ...

The Disciplined Trader: Developing Winning Attitudes105 reviews
Mark Douglas

Prentice Hall Press, 1990

Warning! Amazon's book is faulty
Guys, This book is absolutely awesome. I have nothing against it, and I consider it a must read for any trader. My purpose of this review is to caution you that there are missing chapters in the book that I received. It looks like the publisher screwed up.... Just a caution.

I Can Share: A Lift-the-Flap Book16 reviews
Karen Katz

Grosset & Dunlap, 2004

yes, with a reminder, I can share
Kren Katz is the one, we can't have enough of her books, and this one is even better; we love the drawings of angry kids (before sharing) and happy after. my daughter (2yrs) enjoys the angry statements and learned them by heart, I finish the sentences for her. and while playing with friends, whenever they get into a fight, I go :"but maybe" and come up with a solution, and she's instantly happy. ...

Share and Take Turns (Learning to Get Along, Book 1)5 reviews
Cheri J. Meiners

Free Spirit Publishing, 2003

An excellent series--get them all!
I would highly recommend any of the books in this series by Cheri Meiners. This book has been especially helpful as my 5-year-old sometimes encounters children who *don't* share well or want to take turns. These books caught my eye because the writing level is just right for pre-K and kindergarten children. Truthful without being preachy or overly wordy, the series shows children and family ...

Full of Bull: Do What Wall Street Does, Not What It Says, To Make Money in the Market17 reviews
Stephen T. McClellan

FT Press, 2007

Illuminating...
I have never read a stock market investment advice book like this one! Other books I've read talk about how to invest, strategies, techniques, and guidelines, but Full of Bull discloses the Wall Street actions that are so damaging to individual investing. I always thought I could take my broker's advice and act on it. Now, after reading Full of Bull, I understand the Wall Street biases and ...

How to Get Rich: One of the World's Greatest Entrepreneurs Shares His Secrets15 reviews
Felix Dennis

Portfolio Hardcover, 2008

An honest account from a person who has been there and done that
This book is different from all the other get rich books that I have read because it is written by an author who is truly rich (he's one of the richest men in Britain). Felix Dennis is very honest about what he thinks are absolutely required to become rich, and it's not a walk in the park. It is HARD work. There ARE sacrifices to be made. Desire alone is not enough, you need COMPULSION if you ...

Options, Futures and Other Derivatives (6th Edition)67 reviews
John C. Hull

Prentice Hall, 2005

Great intro
I started not knowing a "put" from a "call," but I needed to know a fair bit about how financial engineers (coming from a family of PEs, I'm still not used to that term) use math. This has been the introduction I wanted - not the advanced stuff, but enough to help me understand that material. Methodical pacing leads the reader gradually through the basics, from just what a derivative is on ...

The Only Grant-Writing Book You'll Ever Need: Top Grant Writers and Grant Givers Share Their Secrets20 reviews
Ellen Karsh, Arlen Sue Fox

Basic Books, 2006

It Just Might Be True!
I'm studying grant writing and have been picking up all these grant writing books. By far, this was the easiest for me to delve into. I thought that odd as I expected the Idiot's and Dummy's guides to be easier and quicker, but the narrative in this book is a pleasant read and the grant writing process just makes so much sense the way the authors present the information. Good job!

Mirrors in the brain: How our minds share actions, emotions, and experience
Giacomo Rizzolatti, Corrado Sinigaglia

Oxford University Press, USA, 2008

Emotions and actions are powerfully contagious; when we see someone laugh, cry, show disgust, or experience pain, in some sense, we share that emotion. When we see someone in distress, we share that distress. When we see a great actor, musician or sportsperson perform at the peak of their abilities, it can feel like we are experiencing just something of what they are experiencing. Yet only recently, with the discover of mirror neurons, has it ...

The Way We Will Be 50 Years from Today: 60 Of The World's Greatest Minds Share Their Visions of the Next ...4 reviews

Thomas Nelson, 2008

We need new leaders to confront global problems
The list of personalities who contribute to this book is impressive, including several Nobel Prize winners in Physics, Medicine, Chemistry , Economics and Peace. The most clear-sighted say that the future is essentially unpredictable ("the hallmark of science has been unanticipated great leaps"), but there are two main conclusions: we need a new political leadership ( "there is a lack of ...
