John Shaw's Closeups in Nature (Practical Photography Books)36 reviews
John Shaw

Amphoto Books, 1987

I love this book
This book really helped me develop some interesting concepts to adapt into my own work, and it introduced me to many things that you can do with lenses to take more interesting photographs.

International Law9 reviews
Malcolm Shaw

Cambridge University Press, 2008

nitpicking
The remark about the Jay treaty convinced me. I immediately decided to buy this book; if an obvious typo (1974 instead of 1794) is the only objection that can made against this book, it must be great.

Sheep in a Jeep (Read-Along Book & CD)77 reviews
Nancy E. Shaw

Houghton Mifflin, 2006

Cute book for kids, especially if you own a Jeep!
We got this book as a gift when my son was 2 years old. It's gone through two more kids and they all love it! We take it with us when we go for Jeep rides, too! We have "Sheep out to eat" and they don't like that as much as the Jeep one. It's a great book to have, especially if you own a Jeep!

John Shaw's Landscape Photography40 reviews
John Shaw

Amphoto Books, 1994

GREAT INFLUENCE
This book influenced my outlook for the wide angle lenses, the use of Velvia, and polorizing filters. I now use all three liberally. Thanks John Shaw

Plays by George Bernard Shaw2 reviews
George Bernard Shaw

Signet Classics, 2004

The best of GBS
This should be required reading just for the "Don Juan in Hell" act of Man and Superman --an excerpt "Your friends are all the dullest dogs I know. They are not beautiful: they are only decorated. They are not clean: they are only shaved and starched. They are not dignified: they are only fashionably dressed. They are not educated: they are only college passmen. They are not religious: they are ...

John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide80 reviews
John Shaw

Amphoto Books, 2000

Invaluable Photography Lessons even in the Digital Age
John Shaw shares his photography knowledge and experiences for almost 30 years in this book. This particular book explains the techniques of taking successful pictures consistently over time in a well-structured manner. As a reader, you can understand his points and vision easily, and learn from them quickly. That is extremely important for the purpose of a field guide. You want to know what the ...

At The Sheikh's Bidding (Harlequin Presents)1 review
Chantelle Shaw

Harlequin, 2008

could not go any lower
This book is so awful I wish Amazon let you give negative stars. This is an terrible book. The hero does nothing but bully and insult. The girl does nothing but think with what is in her pants. The Presents series has out done itself with this tacky, tasteless offering.Save your money. Don't waste it on this tripe.

The Robert Shaw Reader6 reviews

Yale University Press, 2004

Great book
I had to buy this book for my advanced choral conducting class - and we're assigned just a few passages to read out of it - just reading those few passages has made me want to read the entire thing - Robert Shaw comes across as intelligent but quirky and humorous. I'm enjoying it so far.

Sheep Trick or Treat9 reviews
Nancy E. Shaw

Houghton Mifflin, 2000

My FAVORITE Halloween Book!
Oh, I so disagree with the Editoral on this book! The writing has a wonderful rhythm, and I love reading it aloud! The situation is absurd, which makes for a hilarious book, plus the illustrations are first-rate. The facial expressions are so human-like, they make us laugh. There is nothing frightening about this book. In fact, the scariest scene is the front cover with the lamb posing as a ...

Messiah6 reviews
George Frideric Handel

Novello, 1998

Very fine and very usable
This very fine edition is perfectly suitable for the listener wishing to follow along to a recording or a performance (why people do this at a live performance, I do not know). But it is also a very affordable vocal score for performance. It has several advantages. First, the printing is clear and easy to read. Second, the keyboard accompaniment isn't simply for a rehearsal pianist. It ...

Changing Conversations in Organizations: A Complexity Approach to Change (Complexity and Emergence ...2 reviews
Patricia Shaw

Routledge, 2002

A formal meeting will never quite be good enough ever again
I really enjoyed this book. It is very readable and very practical. I have a Masters Degree in Complexity Theory and this book beautifully complimented my understanding of the power of conversations to get to the deeper complexity of issues and the limitations of our traditional workplace meetings. I have been pushing for a conversational structure to my meetings at work (I work in ...

Building Great Customer Experiences, Revised Edition7 reviews
Colin Shaw, John Ivens

Palgrave Macmillan, 2004

Wonderful and Thoughtful
This book helps tie together all the parts of developing a business plan. Before I read this book, I was struggling with writing a business plan for a new business. The hardest thing for me was putting all the pieces together in a coherant structure. This book provides the missing piece that every business needs to have in order to produce results that are lasting and memoriable. GREAT ...

The Oxford History of Ancient Egypt15 reviews

Oxford University Press, USA, 2004

Good book
I bought this book for a class in Egyptology as required course material but it is so well written and has great pictures and information that instead of selling it after the quarter is over like I do with most books for my class I'm going to keep this one. It's well worth the buy if you are interested in Ancient Egypt. It has a great deal of insightful detailed information.

Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering (New Edition)35 reviews
Robert L. Shaw

Naval Institute Press, 1985

Excellent Text Not For The Casual Reader
This book is a serious educational tool for modern fighter pilots. I tried reading it in high school when I thought I wanted to "grow up to be a fighter pilot." The best thing about it is that I learned that being a fighter pilot requires a lot more knowledge of math and physics than I'd ever imagined. Real fighter jocks have to be a great deal smarter than they are portrayed in movies. The ...

Nature Photographer's Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques11 reviews
John Shaw

Watson-Guptill Pubns, 1989

Another John Shaw Book - Excellent
This is another of John Shaw's excellent books on photography. Liberally illustrated with examples and interspersed with his commentary and notes I found tremendously useful. Shaw covers almost all aspects of photography - from the rule of 16ths, exposure, film, tripods, lenses, closeups, depth of field, composition, backlit photography, etc... Reading this book before you start using that brand ...

Social and Personal Ethics1 review
William H. Shaw

Wadsworth Publishing, 2007

Easy to understand
I think philosophy is tough. This book puts everything in to terms you can understand. It's great for a college gen. ed. philosophy or ethics class. I enjoyed reading the book and learned a lot...which is more than I can say about most books/classes I've taken in college.

Short Stories: Five Decades (Phoenix Fiction)5 reviews
Irwin Shaw

University Of Chicago Press, 2000

The Best Short Stories We've All Forgotten
Why have we forgotten this guy? "The Eighty Yard Run" is the greatest short story ever written! And that's just one of the many wonderful stories in this big volume. To think that it's out of print is almost criminal. John F. Kennedy was a fan of Irwin Shaw and you should be, too! Irwin Shaw wrote "Rich Man, Poor Man," which became one of the first TV mini-series back around 1976 or 1977. ...
