The backpacker's bible to Central America
I have used Lonely Planet's "Central America on a Shoestring" on a couple trips to Central America. Just like every other Lonely Planet Shoestring Guide, it's been amazing. There have been some bad reviews of the book, so I think I should clarify who this book would best appeal to. If you want to stay in three and four star hotels in the tourist parts of town, take guided tours of everything you ...

Not only that, it does so systematically, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages in a straight forward manner. No sound bytes, no big words, and no hype. Thanks for the ideas!
Our family has found this book extrememly informative. We are a family living on a budget and this book gave us some really helpful hints on how to stretch that budget. We've already set up our library at home by subject and found it easier to find the book you want at a glance. There are many ideas on low-cost or free field trips, materials, and curriculum. This is a great resource book for ...

Practical but imperfect travel guide
This is a useful if flawed guide for backpackers and other budget travelers. This thick book (1,150 Pages) covers lodging, conditions, airports, regulations, and other vital information for 13 countries. The information is practical, useful, and substantial, and one can travel South America with this guide. But in trying to cover 13 countries the book is unavoidably limited on information for ...
Modern Shoestring: Contemporary Architecture on a Budget
Susanna Sirefman

, 2008
Residential design provides a rich testing ground for architectural innovation. Intimate scales and specific programs inspire distinctive homes, and comparatively small budgets are catalysts for exploring nontraditional materials. Modern Shoestring proves that building a contemporary house can be affordable and shows how constraints actually stimulate the most creative design solutions. Eighteen residential projects are presented, with ...

Science on a Shoestring
Herb Strongin was lightyears ahead of other science educators when he published SOS (1976). He recognized that there are a few big ideas in science, and if students organize their investigations around topics of interest that are sequenced to support those big ideas, then science content understanding will emerge from DOING science. The activities in this book are simple, at times unusual, ...

You only need a few good ideas - I have more money in my pocket
I have not even read close to 1/2 of the book. So far, I have found a lot of info that is not useful to me. My advise is to just not spend any time on those parts. I did find, so far, 2 good ideas and the day after finding them, I implemented them. The result is cold, hard cash and an ubelievably better use of some cash I already had. I expect the rest of the book will be the same way. I ...

South East Asia on a shoestring
This book is all good so far. Looking at different types of itineries across the whole of SE Asia is very helpful, and the prices seem pretty up to date at the mo (aug 08). Have had some good tips on getting the best for our money and the 'our picks' in each section have made the places full of like minded people! Top tip for such a thick book -when you get into a city/town/place cut out the ...

The author shows absolutely dozens of ways to save money on e-learning projects, and offers very useful tips to use if you decide to work with vendors. I had no idea so much could be done with so little. This was an excellent investment!

I love this book!
I bought this book a few years ago after having bought and read other personal finance guides. I found it to be well written, well organized and easy to read. It gave me great practical information for how to start investing/saving with very little money and because of this book I finally got the nerve to do just that. I have always been a financially organized person but this book gave me ...
Technology on a Shoestring: A Survival Guide for Educators And Other Professionals

Dealing with technology within the school environment poses problems that don't exist in the corporate world, such as donated equipment, old computers, and special laws related to the disabilities and protection of children. In addition, many technical coordinators "fell" into the job simply because they were the first in their school to own a computer. good book for ages 5-10
I am a pre-k Sunday school teacher and bought this book to use for them because it is mixed in with all other preschool books. It is a fine book, but most-all of the activities are too advanced for them. It says on the cover for ages 5-10, but I couldn't read that in the picture. Just a heads up.

Art Leidecker has drawn from many of the top marketing and success minds around, while adding his own unique twist to the mix. Another enjoyable and helpful read from Mr. Howells
I'm not looking to retire anytime soon (I'm 50) but really enjoyed this particular book, as it's given me much to think about. I like his down-to-earth approach (he and his wife have boldly RV'd all over the place, including down into Mexico, so he knows firsthand what day-to-day life is for the average (?) retiree). Again, a very enjoyable read.
