Down the Kitchen Sink2 reviews
Beverle Nichols

Timber Press, Incorporated, 2006

A wonderful read with a cat on your lap.
I am a great fan of Beverly Nichols, so I am always excited to see one of his books reprinted. I enjoyed this look into an era long gone. His gardening books gave you a glimpse of Gaskin but this book presented a picture of the real person, not just the perfect servant. I like Nichols' wry humour and every cat lover will feel they have met a kindred spirit.

Will the Boat Sink the Water?: The Life of China's Peasants10 reviews
Chen Guidi, Wu Chuntao

PublicAffairs, 2007

"The Revolution is a Dinner Party"
John Pomfret writes in his introduction to this book that when he was in college in the late 1970s, professors taught that the Chinese Communist Party "truly represented the wishes of China's dispossessed" and one quoted Mao's saying that "A revolution is not a dinner party." Chinese reporters Chen Guidi and Wu Chuntao document the plight of the peasants in their country, showing Pomfret and ...

Frog in the Kitchen Sink: Board Book Edition4 reviews
Jim Post

Accord, a division of Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2001

Great Eye's
My son loves this book as well as Friends of a Feather by Cohn/Sullivan. The repeated phrases make him laugh but can sometimes be a little tounge tying espically if you are tired. The google eyes are also fun for him to watch as they move around. If you want to reclaim your child from grandparents just ask them to read this book to them and you will have your child back within 2 pages.

Eric Sink on the Business of Software (Expert's Voice)27 reviews
Eric Sink

Apress, 2006

Speaks to Me, the geek.
The pace of the book is pretty fast and light. Unlike many business books, Eric generally gets down to the point in just one or two paragraphs. No long antidotes about how someone felt in there situation. Simply, the facts as he sees them. Eric Sink's message is a bit ironic. He states that geeks are not the end all and be all in the world. But at the same time, we know that geeks can code ...

Another 5-star review from SF, jeffnc!
Pay no attention to Jeffnc, the bitter reviewer from SC! I live in SF and have no idea who the Sidells are, but this book is fascinating! Follow everything they say week by week,a nd you'll get that "This is going very well" at your 90-day review just like me! What's more, you look not only super organized with this book on your desk, but also super-conscientious....I brought this book into a ...

The Sink or Swim Money Program : The 6-Step Plan for Teaching Your Teens Financial Responsibility2 reviews
John E. Whitcomb

Viking Adult, 2001

Learning about money period!
We instituted this plan with our daughter almost 2 years ago. The difference was dramatic and immediate. We had not originally allowed enough money to cover all of the expenses we were expecting her to cover. The monthly sessions were very emotional for those first couple of months when there just wasn't enough money. We went through the plan and looked at it together and readjusted her ...

Regarding the Sink: Where, Oh Where, Did Waters Go? (Regarding the . . .)10 reviews
Kate Klise

Harcourt Paperbacks, 2006

Regarding the Sink
I really enjoyed Regarding the Sink. This book is mainly about a class of sixth graders who are determined to find a fountain designer, Florence Waters, to design their new sink. They're willing to go all the way to China to find her. My favorite part was the sixth grade class trip. Anyone who likes sixth graders, crabby ladies, principals, and mysteries would like this book. Regarding the ...

See It and Sink It: Mastering Putting Through Peak Visual Peformance7 reviews
Craig L. Farnsworth

Collins, 1997

A Master Stroke
When I first skimmed this book, I felt it was poorly illustrated and the writing was very marginal. However, upon reading it through, I think it is one of the best golf books ever written, mainly because it spells out in detail how one can really begin to use his vision on the putting green, something that's alluded me for the 30+ years I've played the game. The exercises and tools are SIMPLE ...

Sink the Bismarck!: John Gresham Military Library Selection1 review
C. S. Forester

IBooks, Inc., 2003

A fictionalized account of what happened to the Bismarck.
This is a quick easy read for those wanting to know about the end of the German super battleship. The book is from the fifies, but the recent reprint gives a fictionalized concept of what happened when the German super battleship ventured out into the North Atlantic and met its fate. Since there were few survivors from the ship and almost none from the Hood, C. S. Forester recreates what could ...

Japan Sinks: A Novel2 reviews
Sakyo Komatsu

Kodansha International (JPN), 1995

Understanding Japan by destroying it.
It's a classic convention of literature - and perhaps life - that people reach their clearest insight only when death is at hand. By creating a model of Japan's death, Komatsu deftly exposes the how the Japanese see themselves, how they believe the world sees them, and who they are. As a foreigner in Japan for nine years who has read copiously on this country, this novel is among the most ...

Barbie Fashion: Vol. 1, 1959-1967 (Barbie Doll Fashion)25 reviews
Sarah Sink Eames

Collector Books, 1990

A MUST FOR THE BARBIE DOLL COLLECTOR!!
For any serious collector of vintage Barbie doll, this book is the best resource available. I have many other books on early Barbie and her fashions, but this volume is the one that I consistently use. It is an accurate, comprehensive chronology of Barbie doll, her family and friends from 1959 through 1967. The photographs alone are worth purchasing the book. The colors are vibrant and crisp. ...
