Finding Noel 58 reviews
Simon & Schuster, 2006
The Real Story The irony of fictional writing is that it works best when it comes from a real place. According to author Richard Paul Evans, the background story of his novel "Finding Noel," is drawn from the real-life story of Celeste Edmunds, a woman with whom he used to work.
As with his previous books, this is a personal work for Evans; he uses family names, origins, religion, illness and little ...

The Seven Silly Eaters 61 reviews Mary Ann Hoberman
Topeka Bindery, 2001
Silly fun which is a joy to read! Typically, I am not in favor of books that show bad role models but the kids in this book are SILLY eaters and most of them are eating healthy foods, just not in a healthy way. (Can you imagine living ONLY on milk or applesauce? THAT'S SILLY-- kids will understand that!) What makes this a GREAT book is the language (the poetry is SO fun to read aloud) and the illustrations which show the toll ...

Zen Shorts (Caldecott Honor Book) 78 reviews
Scholastic Press, 2005
Wonderful. Buy this book! Moral philosophy for kids - and their parents. My three year old likes the stories as much as I do. The messages are delivered simply so that you take from them your own meaning to your degree of understanding. We try to read Zen Shorts in the mornings to remind us of more peaceful ways to approach the day. I really can't recommend this book enough.

Night World: Daughters Of Darkness 129 reviews L. J. Smith
Pocket Books, 1996
Soul-mates I have read nearly all of the books in the Night-world series, and I have to say that this one is my favourite, without a doubt! It is Ash of course that just makes this book, he is irrestible, I became hooked on him from the very first, I guess it's the whole 'bad-boy' vampyre thing he's got going on that you become addicted to him! I started reading these books years ago, but they went out of ...

Fablehaven 83 reviews Brandon Mull
Topeka Bindery, 2007
Look out J.K..... I actually purchased this book at walmart because the cover art was fantastic and the plot sounded fun at least. I was surprised to find a vibrant and fantastic world created in its pages, the best thing to come out since Harry Potter, it is a fresh outlook on mythology and fantasy. It is not a difficult read and pre-teens should have no trouble with it, but the characters and story are ...

What's Done In The Dark 60 reviews Gloria Mallette
Kensington, 2006
When Darkness Falls Gloria Mallette's latest novel focuses on a subject that's nearly as old as time itself - sibling rivalry. Since they were children, to say sisters Celeste and Katrina didn't get along is an understatement. Katrina hated her little sister with a passion. Whenever she could do something to upset Celeste she did. Although the sisters' always had problems, it was Katrina's decision to sleep with ...

The Diamond in the Window 44 reviews Jane Langton
Peter Smith Publisher, 1962
A book for all ages. While I was a voracious reader as a child, there are a very few books from my childhood that stand out in my memory like beacons. This is one of those books. I was probably eight or nine when I first read it, and I still remember to this day lessons I learned from this book -- like putting the interests of others before your own, for example. One of the author's gifts is that she was able to ...

Brother Iron, Sister Steel: A Bodybuilder's Book 49 reviews Dave Draper
On Target Publications, 2001
Excellent guide, Dave! The most useful part of this book is the advise about how to train around injury and over training. This is what happens when yer an old geezer and want the 18 year old body. I'm 59, and actually don't look like I'll be dead in 13 years. Thank you Dave.

Angel Fire 47 reviews Ron Franscell
Laughing Owl Publishing, 1998
A beautiful book about life, love and memory I was introduced to Angel Fire as part of my university's Western literature course last fall. It is one of the most moving books I have ever read as part of my classroom work which is usually pretty boring and hard to manage. But this book was totally different and is an awesome example of symbolism, totally real characters and had a beautiful message all wrapped up in a story I couldn't put ...

Amazing Reading Experience I first borrowed this book from the library. I read it and had to own it. I do not ever purchase books, I borrow them. The writting is amazing. That is the only word that even comes close to describing the experience of reading this book. The feelings I felt while reading Traveling Light went from one end of the spectrum to the other. Awesome!

The Brothers Lionheart 51 reviews Astrid Lindgren
Puffin, 1985
One Of The Most Creative Books Ever! The Brother's Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren is a wonderful book that I would recommend to anyone. Although the end of the book may be a little sad, the rest of it is fantastic. First of all, the Lionheart brothers, Jonathan and Rusky, live with their single mother in an apartment. Rusky is very ill and is to die soon. Out of nowhere, a fire strikes their house. Jonathan, being the brave boy that ...

Thank You Anne, Thank You Very Much A running gag throughout this series involves the giant statue of Vulcan that looms over Birmingham and literally moons half of the town. Among other things they hold a fund-raiser at the Alabama theater that features several acts including a chorus ...
